ISSUE 7 — 15 May 2020 A MESSAGE FROM ICTS EUROPE PRESIDENT & CEO— OREN SAPIR Dear ICTS Family members, The momentum of moving to the new normal is accelerating around the world. Meanwhile we hear of a second wave that will or will not come. It does not change the fact that caution still needs to be practiced. I hope that you are all feeling well and getting some fresh air while moving to the new normal, and I also hope that you watch out and take the necessary steps to protect your health. While we are doing the same at management level, we look out for the health of ICTS. “I hope that you are all feeling well Slowly flights start to resume, buildings are opening, but it is very slow and very different. We adapt, as our clients and stakeholders do, and are building the and getting some foundations for the future with new technologies, processes and ideas, and our fresh air while clients welcome them. moving to the This week, I have seen a great initiative started by ICTS France at Orly Airport, new normal.” with a very nice video (see page 7) and a challenge to other subsidiaries to come up with something similar. ICTS Italy has accepted the challenge - let’s see who will be next. I loved to see the initiative coming from the employees, with great spirit and creativity. Looking forward to the next time we meet each other. As always, yours truly, Oren Sapir 1
AN INTERVIEW WITH GENERAL MANAGER ICTS FRANCE — JEAN-BAPTISTE THELOT How are you? Given the circumstances, I am doing quite well! My family and I are keeping healthy and safe, which is the most important thing. Fortunately, neither ICTS France nor ICTS Belgium have had any serious cases of, or indeed, lost anyone to Covid-19. I’m currently swamped with organising the company and adapting to the consid- erable decrease in activity we’ve experienced since the break of the crisis. However, I’m also trying to make the most of this particular period, spending more time at home with my wife and three girls. Simply having lunch with them every day is already a significant change! What message do you want to send to your employees and the wider ICTS Europe Group? I'm immensely impressed and proud of the manner in which ICTS employees have rallied together during this crisis, and ‘ICTS Connect’ has proven to be a very effective tool for maintaining this sense of unity across the Group. During the peak of the pandemic, in April and May, we asked for volunteers in “Together, we will France to continue working. Despite the understandable anxiety generated by overcome this crisis the virus, I was extremely proud and grateful to see that we had more volunteers and rise again, than needed to support our operations and clients. stronger!” I would like to reassure our employees and say they must stay confident in ICTS’ resilience. Our company is very strong, not only in its values and culture, but also financially. Together, we will overcome this crisis and rise again, stronger! And more than anything, I want to them all to stay safe! On a personal note, what have you learnt to appreciate during this forced change of routine? I have come to appreciate, even more than before, the importance of human re- lationships during this difficult time of lockdown. We who make up ICTS are, more than anything, an interconnected group of individuals, each with their own feelings, sensibilities and ways of coping during lockdown. I try to make some time to call colleagues and family, to check on them and see how they're doing. It also helps me recognise just how volatile our situation is. What could have been considered as being strong assets, can very quickly break apart in just a few weeks. That's why we must always maintain our mental agility and humility, so we can constantly assess the ways we are working. The challenges we face must be transformed into opportunities - to create new value propositions, a smarter organisation, and improved working processes. For example, as most of us were forced to work from home full-time during this period, maybe tomorrow we could use this practise to reduce travel and improve our overall efficiency? 2
Quarantine is an unchartered territory and we are here to help! Every week we will be looking to tackle a different challenge by sharing your survival tips. This week’s topic: “NATURE — WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE DURING LOCKDOWN?” Paul Reynolds, Senior ICTS Trainer, London Gatwick, ICTS UK & Ire- land—”Photography has been a hobby of mine for 40 years and I always think when you look at a picture through the lens, don’t just take a snapshot, but wait pa- tiently for the right moment, then take the photo.” Helen Cleave, Security Agent, Edinburgh Airport, ICTS UK & Ire- land—”What I am enjoying about the nature is the amazing walks right on my doorstep that I have never had the time to appreciate. Once things start to settle, I am going to try and keep up the walks on my days off.” Marijke Tuninga, HR Manager, CTSN Group—”Nature means a lot to me, not only during lock- down. I live in a small town near Amsterdam with a nature reserve in my ‘backyard’. In the Netherlands we are lucky that we did not have a complete lockdown and were able to go outside without restrictions. In the morning I like to walk in this reserve before I start working from home. This gives an extra boost in your head and at the same time it gives a little ‘me’-time. Especially in the spring, it’s so wonderful to see nature bloom and come to life. Last week the early mornings were still cold and misty. Walking becomes a matter of taking many photos rather than steps.” 3
“Throughout the lockdown in Holland we have still been allowed to go outside to do sports such as hiking or running, preferably with your direct family members or on your own and bearing in mind the 1.5 metres social distance. I have the privilege to live near a forest and a beach. I go out for long runs and/or hikes as often as I can. Being in nature gives me such a boost both mentally and physically. Besides that, it is fun to discover new trails and routes in an area where I have lived for many years!” - Sacha Miettinen, Project Assistant CTSN Group/ICTS Europe and Editor of ICTS Europe Connect. Roberta Puccinelli Sher, Communication Manager, ICTS UK & Ireland and Editor of ICTS Europe Connect—”I have only re- cently heard about ‘forest bathing’ from a friend. Forest bathing is a Japanese practice - a process of relaxation; known in Japan as shinrin yoku. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply can help both adults and chil- dren de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way. Learn more about it here.” “Once the “lockdown” was announced, alternative ways should be found. Cooking, baking and cleaning the house were the main daily activities… Meanwhile, we realized that the spring was here, which be- came a powerful medication for people’s hearts. Balcony life was a new daily routine for us and our families! During lock- down, it became much more appreciated. … And the time goes by and the sun and sea of Greece can heal everything, as a good friend used to say” - Evangelia Loulou, Tender Manager, ICTS Hellas S.A. Monica Salomoni, Operations Manager, ICTS Italy, shared a picture of some of team ICTS Italy. Face masks are worn to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Graham Clare, ICTS Station Manager at Dublin Airport – “At Dublin we are very lucky to have a number of US carriers op- erating cargo-only flights which require ICTS Aviation Security Services. American Airlines has commenced weekly cargo operations from Dublin to Dallas Forth Worth using a Boeing 777 air- craft. This is one of the largest aircraft currently flying from Yvonnic Lory Dublin Airport. ICTS provides Security Agents for every arrival and departure, who are responsible for the guarding, access control and aircraft protection while the aircraft is on the ground. United Airlines continues to operate three weekly cargo flights from their base in Washington. The ICTS team is re- quired to perform regular ramp guarding and aircraft access control. These cargo flights operate slightly outside the tim- ings of the regular passenger flights and we are very grateful for the teams coming in earlier than normal to meet the Gerard O’Reilly flight, or staying on a late shift for the evening departure.” 5
We are delighted that close to 60 ICTS staff have already registered to attend future sessions. Thank you for the positive feedback received – here is a snapshot: “ICTS Europe is addressing COVID-19 risks with solutions that will boost global confidence and help the industry to bring airplanes back to the air as soon as possible.” “I'm very happy to have attended the meeting the other day. Every week we will be looking to feature a quote of HOPE, RESILIENCE, and SOLIDARITY Picture taken last week by Sacha Miettinen at the seaside of her hometown, Castricum. Ralph Waldo Emerson was born on May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an American author , lec- turer, philosopher, and poet and one of the most influential thinkers of the United States.
