Words of Welcome

Opening Hymn “O Father, All Creating” #858
                    O Father, all creating,
               Whose wisdom, love, and pow’r
                First bound two lives together
                    In Eden’s primal hour,

                Today to these Your children
                 Your earliest gifts renew:
                A home by You made happy,
                  A love by You kept true.

               With good wine, Lord, at Cana
               The wedding feast You blessed.
               Grant also these Your presence,
                 And be their dearest guest.

                Their store of earthly gladness
                 Transform to heav’nly wine,
                And teach them, in the testing,
                   To know the gift divine.
O Spirit of the Father,
                     Breathe on them from above,
                    So searching in Your pureness,
                        So tender in Your love

                   That, guarded by Your presence
                    And kept from strife and sin,
                        Their hearts may heed
                           Your guidance
                    And know You dwell within.

                     Unless You build it, Father,
                      The house is built in vain;
                     Unless You, Savior, bless it,
                      The joy will turn to pain.

                     But nothing breaks the union
                     Of hearts in You made one;
                     The love Your Spirit hallows
                        Is endless love begun.

P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess
   our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our
   Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

C: I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and
   iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserve
   Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry
   for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your
boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter
   sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be
   gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.
P: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and
   ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of
   you, and in the stead and by the command of our Lord and Savior
   Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and
   of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT                                               Isaiah 62:1-5
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not
remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her
salvation like a blazing torch. The nations will see your righteousness,
and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the
mouth of the LORD will bestow. You will be a crown of splendor in the
LORD'S hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. No longer will
they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be
called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight
in you, and your land will be married. As a young man marries a maiden,
so will your sons marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so
will your God rejoice over you.
R: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

Psalm of the Day Psalm 128

            (Read responsively – Reader and Congregation)

R: Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.
C: You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will
   be yours.
R: Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons
   will be like olive shoots around your table.
C: Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.
R: May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you
   see the prosperity of Jerusalem,
C: and may you live to see your children’s children. Peace be upon
   Israel.
ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
   as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

EPISTLE                                          1 Corinthians 12:1-11
Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. You
know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were
influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I tell you that no one
who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one
can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. There are different
kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service,
but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same
God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of
the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through
the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge
by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to
another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers,
to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another
speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the
interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same
Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
R: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

                 (Congregation stands as music begins)
                 Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go?
          You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia, alleluia.

HOLY GOSPEL                                                  John 2:1-11
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother
was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the
wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They
have no more wine.” “Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus
replied. “My time has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants,
“Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind
used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to
thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so
they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out
and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of
the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not
realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the
water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone
brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the
guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in
Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in
him.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into
heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From
there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the
Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen!

The Offertory “Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful, Lord”
               (Congregation stands as music begins)
                  Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord,
               And fill to the brim our cup of blessing.
            Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown,
              That we may be fed with the bread of life.
               Gather the hopes and the dreams of all;
              Unite them with the prayers we offer now.
               Grace our table with Your presence, and
               Give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

Distribution Hymn "Come, Join in Cana's Feast" #408
                                        (To the Tune of LSB #610)
                 Come, join in Cana’s feast
               Where Christ is honored guest.
              He welcomes all who come to taste
              The wine His hands have blessed.

                  The old wine now is gone
                  From jars that stand apart.
                   No longer can it satisfy
                 The yearning, thirsting heart.

               But Christ, the Word made flesh,
                   Bids water turn to wine.
                He fills our empty cups again
                 With grace and truth divine.

              Come, friends, and share the feast;
                Here drink the wine supplied
             By Him who is both guest and host—
                    For us, the crucified.

                 For now He lives and reigns
                     Through all eternity
               With Father, Spirit, Three in One,
                     The glorious Trinity.

Distribution Hymn "Arise and Shine in Splendor" #396
                 Arise and shine in splendor;
                  Let night to day surrender.
                  Your light is drawing near.
                  Above, the day is beaming,
                In matchless beauty gleaming;
                 The glory of the Lord is here.

                  See earth in darkness lying,
                  The heathen nations dying
                 In hopeless gloom and night.
To you the Lord of heaven—
                Your life, your hope—has given
                Great glory, honor, and delight.

                  The world’s remotest races,
                    Upon whose weary faces
                  The sun looks from the sky,
                  Shall run with zeal untiring,
                  With joy Your light desiring
              That breaks upon them from on high.

                 Lift up your eyes in wonder—
                   See, nations gather yonder
                     From sin to be set free.
                The world has heard Your story;
                 Her sons come to Your glory;
              Her daughters haste Your light to see.

                Your heart will leap for gladness
               When from the realms of sadness
                 They come from near and far.
               Your eyes will wake from slumber
                  As people without number
                Rejoice to see the Morning Star.

Distribution Hymn
           "Draw Near and Take the Body of the Lord" #637

           Draw near and take the body of the Lord,
          And drink the holy blood for you outpoured;
           Offered was He for greatest and for least,
           Himself the victim and Himself the priest.

        He who His saints in this world rules and shields,
               To all believers life eternal yields;
        With heav’nly bread He makes the hungry whole,
            Gives living waters to the thirsting soul.
Come forward then with faithful hearts sincere,
               And take the pledges of salvation here.
            O Lord, our hearts with grateful thanks endow
              As in this feast of love You bless us now.

Post Communion Hymn                                      Nunc Dimittis
                  Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant
                depart in peace according to Thy word,
             for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which
            Thou hast prepared before the face of all people,
                     a light to lighten the Gentiles
                   and the glory of Thy people Israel.
                  Glory be to the Father and to the Son
                 and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the
                  beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
                       world without end. Amen.

Sending Song "Jesus Has Come and Brings Pleasure" #533

           Jesus has come and brings pleasure eternal,
               Alpha, Omega, Beginning and End;
              Godhead, humanity, union supernal,
           O great Redeemer, You come as our friend!

        Heaven and earth, now proclaim this great wonder:
           Jesus has come and brings pleasure eternal!

                         Jesus has come!
                  Now see bonds rent asunder!
            Fetters of death now dissolve, disappear.
        See Him burst through with a voice as of thunder!
           He sets us free from our guilt and our fear,

          Lifts us from shame to the place of His honor.
         Jesus has come! Hear the roll of God’s thunder!

             Jesus has come as the mighty Redeemer.
          See now the threatening strong one disarmed!
        Jesus breaks down all the walls of death’s fortress,
         Brings forth the pris’ners triumphant, unharmed.

          Satan, you wicked one, own now your master!
           Jesus has come! He, the mighty Redeemer!

            Jesus has come as the King of all glory!
          Heaven and earth, O declare His great pow’r,
           Capturing hearts with the heavenly story;
          Welcome Him now in this fast-fleeting hour!

         Ponder His love! Take the crown He has for you!
            Jesus has come! He, the King of all glory!
