GETTING TO THE START LINE IN 3 GRAFTON ON SUNDAY MORNING Sunday, October 6th We encourage runners to use the free shuttle bus service to the start area. Please note that the bus service to the start is limited to registered runners and is not available to spectators. The buses going to the start do not return to the parking area or the finish line. In other words, if you get on the bus, you are running back to your car in Milwaukee. Runners can get on the shuttle buses at the following locations: General Race Day Parking (all runners) at the Henry Maier Festival Grounds-200 N Harbor Street. Buses load from 5:15am-6:00am. Host hotels (Drury Hotel and Courtyard). Bus leaves at 6:00am. This bus is only available to registered runners who are guests of these two hotels. Must show bib and be on the hotel manifest to board the shuttle." If you are staying at a local hotel, please contact them and ask if they will provide shuttle service to the Henry Maier Festival Grounds. Parking at the Henry Maier Festival Grounds is free to register runners and spectators. Portable toilets will be available near the shuttle bus pick-up area. Runners can also be dropped off at Grafton High School on race morning. Parking is available ONLY in the two official lots (follow volunteers directions near the start line). Anyone parking in private property or in “no parking zones” are subject to fines and towing–no excuses! A LETTER TO PARTICIPANTS 4 Congratulations! You made the commitment when you signed up, you’ve worked hard in your training and now your day is here. Everyone here has a story to tell and I invite you to think about your sacrifices, those who helped you get here and the lives you may change through your inspiration, as you travel our 26.2 mile course. Whether this is your first marathon or you are a veteran to the distance, the volunteers and sponsors of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon are so pleased that you have selected to participate in our event. We work very hard behind the scenes to offer you and your guests the best experience and value that we can, and if there is something that you really appreciated or have some suggestions to help us in the future, please let us know. We want to hear from you. Take time to soak in the sights and sounds of our course and our municipalities and we hope you come back with some friends/family soon. BAG DROP 5 Runners can drop their gear bag at the collection truck near the start line. All participants will be given an official Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon gear bag at packet pick-up. On race morning tear off the bag drop tag from bib, string it through the race bag and tie it shut with a knot prior to handing to volunteer at the truck on their way to the finish chute. Runners are encouraged NOT to put valuables in the bag (cellphones, keys, wallets, etc.). Personal bags and backpacks are not allowed on the shuttle buses. Extra bags will be available at the start line. Clothing left on the course may be taken to the finish line if possible. It is not guaranteed that all items will be picked up. When discarding clothing items, please drop them at a mile marker or an aid station to help expedite clean-up. Clothing items not claimed at the finish line by 2:30pm will be discarded. 7 AID STATIONS WATER STOPS AND PORTA POTTIES Water stops are located approximately every two miles. Each aid station will have: Water Lemon-lime Endurance Formula Gatorade Bandages Bio-Freeze Vaseline Portable toilets GU brand gels (Tri-berry and Salted Caramel) will be available on the course at approximately miles 7.5 and 19.5. 8 SPECTATOR INFO When traveling on the course please follow directions of law enforcement officers, volunteers, and race officials. They are out on the course to keep the runners safe! A few things to keep in mind: Put litter in its place! We are guests in these communities. Driving on the race course during the race is highly discouraged. Parking is not allowed on the streets in any of the municipalities in the first 18 miles of the race course. In addition, parking is not allowed in the synagogue or church lots on Brown Deer Road and Lake Drive (approximately mile 15). Violators will be ticketed and/or towed. We will have food trucks available for purchasing food/refreshments at the finish line. Make a sign for your athlete at the Expo. (FREE!) THE BIG ONE: PLEASE DO NOT ACCOMPANY, FOLLOW, OR ASSIST THE RUNNERS IN ANY WAY. DOING SO COULD RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ATHLETES TO KNOW THE RULES OF THE USATF. 9 SPECTATOR INFO SPECTATOR LOCATIONS Grafton High School (Start Line): Race begins at 7:30 am – 1950 Washington Street, Grafton Concordia University (approximately mile 7.5) : 12800 N Lakeshore Drive Mequon Parking will be available at the Highland House restaurant. Due to congestion at this viewing area, spectators will not be allowed to park on or near campus. Shuttles, courtesy of Concordia University, will be available to take spectators to the campus viewing area and back to the Highland House. Highland Road will be closed at Port Washington Road. Mark Travel Corporation (approximately mile 14) – 8881 N Port Washington Road Bayside Spectator parking and viewing in Bayside is only allowed at Mark Travel Corporation in the east parking lot. Spectators are asked not to cross Port Washington Road but instead walk ½ block south to the police monitored road crossing at W Glenco Place. 10 SPECTATOR INFO SPECTATOR LOCATIONS Wheel and Sprocket, North Shore Bank, and Village Pool (approximately mile 16.5) Businesses near Green Tree Road and Lake Drive have given permission for spectators to park in their lots. Green Tree Road is not accessible from Lake Drive during the race. Klode Park (approximately mile 19) – 5900 North Lake Drive, Whitefish Bay Park on residential streets west of Lake Drive. Henry Maier Festival Grounds (Finish Line) – 200 N Harbor Drive, Milwaukee The finish line has moved to the Summerfest Grounds! Enter through the main gate, just across the street from the parking lot. Spectator standing and bleacher seating is available along the finish chute on the east side (next to the Lake). 11 PARKING FREE parking for registered runners and spectators in Summerfest Parking lots H and P. Directions: From I-794 take exit 310C toward the Lakefront. Take a right turn onto N. Lincoln Memorial. Then continue to lots H or P as directed by Milwaukee Lakefront marathon volunteers. 12 SECURITY Security measures are implemented to ensure the safety of all involved with the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Only official Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon gear bags will be allowed to take personal items on the shuttle buses and to drop off items on the bag drop truck. Bags will be supplied at packet pick-up, at shuttle bus loading, and again at the start line if needed. The event and security staff reserve the right to conduct a search of any bag at any time in conjunction with marathon related events and locations. Spectators are not allowed into the secured runners finish area or in the finish chute. 13 WEATHER We want to ensure a safe event for everyone involved with the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Therefore, the race staff will make decisions about race cancellations/modifications based on the safety of all that are involved – this includes the participants, the volunteers, the spectators and the host communities. Specifically, the race staff reserves the right to cancel or modify the race if deemed necessary to protect the participants, the volunteers, the spectators or the host community. These conditions will be recognized as unforeseeable acts. Since the staging of the race results in substantial up-front expenses regardless of whether or not the race is completed, cancellation or modification of the race will not result in the refunding of race entry fees or future race credits. Severe weather conditions include: Thunderstorms or lightning Extreme heat & humidity High winds Extreme cold temperature Heavy rain, sleet or snow The weather can change during the course of the event. A flag system will be used to communicate weather status. These flags will be placed at the aid stations. 14 PACE TEAM In the event a runner is on the course at 6.5 hours, we will request the runners bib number and the runner is to follow the rules of the road. The finish line will be gated off at 3pm sharp and anyone finishing before then will receive their bib back. 15 MISC RUNNER TRACKING The Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon is pleased to offer LIVE race tracking available to all athletes at no charge. Race Joy (racejoy.net) Runners must carry their GPS enabled phone for spectators to be able to locate you on the course. Download the app. Track all your athletes once bib numbers are given out. In addition, we will ALSO have the traditional mat timing that will send text messages to those tracking you. Instructions for how to sign up will be given to athletes prior to the race. FINISH LINE EXTRAVAGANZA IMPORTANT: YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE A PHOTO ID AT THE FINISH LINE IF YOU WISH TO HAVE A BEER. This year we have our biggest stage ever for the finish line after party. And we are putting it to good use. We know there will not be a lot of runners who will be standing on picnic tables dancing and doing the splits but we do know that having Dirty Boogie gracing our stage will keep the smiles on your faces and your hearts rejoicing. Finish your race strong, grab a beverage, get into some great conversations with others about your day and enjoy the sights and sounds of Dirty Boogie!
