The territory is organized in fifteen provinces and a special municipality with Havana as capital and more populated city. It is a developing nation that adopts for itself a planned economy, whose main activities are the exports of sugar, tobacco, coffee, pharmaceuticals and specialized labor. It ranks 67th in the Human Development Index accordingly to the United Nations, and the 5th among Latin Americans, behind Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Panama. In 2015, Cuba had the 3rd IDH in Latin America. It is the most populated city in the country, with a population of 2 106 146 inhabitants according to data from 2012, and among the most populated of the Caribbean region. As the capital of Cuba, the city is the official seat of the state's top organs and the Cuban Government, of all the central agencies and of almost all the companies and associations of national scope. It also brings together the largest number of branches and parent companies of foreign entities settle in Cuba. Its historical, architectural and cultural heritage, expressed in the fusion between Europeans, Africans and Aborigines at the outset, along with other more contemporary ethnic and cultural components, make the city an important recipient of international tourism. Its historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1982, is today one of the best preserved architectural complexes in Latin America. Among its most representative monuments are the “Catedral de la Habana”, “La Plaza de Armas” , “El Castillo del Morro”, “El Museo de la Revolución”, “El Palacio Nacional de Bellas Artes”, “El Gran Teatro de La Habana”, “El Capitolio”, “La Plaza de la Revolución” and “El Malecón”, this last one is perhaps, the most internationally recognized symbol of the city. http://www.chemistrycuba.com/
