An entity of state established in 1974 located at Pietermaritzburg – KZN. • To provide water services – bulk water supply and sanitation services - to other water services institutions- municipalities • Operates within prescribed legislation and national government frameworks and mandates - including PFMA and Water Services Act. • The Minister of Water and Sanitation is the Executive Authority and sole shareholder. • The Board, appointed by the minister, is accountable for the leadership and control of Umgeni Water • The Executive Committee is the top management structure of Umgeni Water. • The Chief Executive guides the day- to-day activities of the entity with powers delegated to him by the Board UW GRADUATE PROGRAMME 2019 UMGENI WATER • AMANZI
Umgeni Water Graduate has two Developmental Programmes • National Treasury Development Programme funded by 1 National Treasury through Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) • In-house Graduate Development Programme funded by Umgeni Water 2 budget UW GRADUATE PROGRAMME – OCT 2019 UMGENI WATER • AMANZI

• To expose trainees to a practical working environment that puts structured learning into practice in order to equip them with applicable competencies that allow development of a pool of qualified, skilled and experienced candidates for future employment within the water sector • To create a talent pool in terms of skills and competencies to support organisational continuity and sustainability • To develop infrastructure delivery management capacity within Municipalities UW GRADUATE PROGRAMME – OCT 2019 UMGENI WATER • AMANZI
• Train Graduates with built environment qualifications in line with the Statutory Council requirements.( Engineering Council of South Africa and South African Council For Scientific Professions) • Improve infrastructure planning and implementation within municipalities. • Improve reporting on infrastructure by municipalities. • Increase number of qualified and professional registered technical experts appointed in municipalities.

Legal Services, Strategy and Special A structured approach where interns are Projects, Risk Management exposed to practical work experience that is relevant to a particular qualification.

UMGENI WATER PARENT • The first phase of the programme started in April 2012 with 43 Graduate trainees placed under different disciplines within Umgeni Water. • To develop infrastructure delivery management capacity within municipalities by creating a long term and sustainable pool of registered professionals with built UMGENI WATER SUBSIDIARIES environment and related technical skills (engineering, town planning, architecture, quantity surveying, geographic information system and project management skills) UW GRADUATE PROGRAMME – OCT 2019 UMGENI WATER • AMANZI
UMGENI WATER PARENT • The implementation of the National Treasury Graduate Development Programme is aligned to the following ; National Skills Development Strategy 3; Skills Development Act ,1998; Human Resources Development Strategy UMGENI of 2010-2030, WATER SUBSIDIARIES National Development Plan and Division of Revenue Act; Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG). UMGENI WATER PARENT Programme Mentors • The Mentors are contracted for 20 hours a month and the ratio for each Mentor is 1: 5 Programme Mentors are responsibilities for the following: • Develop the training plans that are approved by Statutory Councils ( ECSA & SACNASP) • To sign Graduates reports and log-books as required by Statutory Councils. • On quarterly basis Mentors evaluate the Graduates quarterly training reports. • Develop the training rotation plan for each Graduate. • Register Graduates as Candidates with the Statutory Councils UW GRADUATE PROGRAMME – OCT 2019 UMGENI WATER • AMANZI
