Coles Express NBL1East + Spalding Waratah League Finals | 2022 WELCOME CEO, B A SK E T B AL L N S W MARI A N OR DS TR OM Welcome to all the players, coaches, officials, team staff, volunteers and family & friends to the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 East & Spalding Waratah League Finals Weekend. We are excited to be back this year after the cancellation of the 2021 Finals due to COVID-19, but alas this year will be one for the history books. There are three new exciting additions to our league which were implemented this season. NBL1 East, Waratah Wheelchair League as well as the Waratah Women’s division returning after no competition in 2021. We would like to thank the NBL and Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT for their guidance and support this season to get both divisions off the ground and for the players taking the court for the first time. 2022 is a big year for basketball in NSW, with the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup set to tip-off in a matter of weeks in Sydney. In the lead up to this once-in-a-lifetime event, Basketball NSW in partnership with the NSW Government, NSW Office of Sport, Indigenous Basketball Australia and the FIBAWWC have been co-delivering numerous free basketball events across metro & regional NSW to encourage new and returning players to enjoy the basketball. I would urge all our parents and associations to support this initiative as we want to not only see new girls enter the sport, we also want to encourage as much physical activity as possible and what better way to do this than play the game we all love! To all my staff at Basketball NSW and Hills Basketball Association who have spent many extra hours to make sure we deliver a finals weekend we can all be proud of, I appreciate your dedication and commitment for our pinnacle event. Enjoy the weekend, I am sure there will be a number of competitive, nail-biting matchups played that will leave all spectators feeling a whirlwind of excitement as the best of the best within our state battle it out for the highest honours. Please be safe and respectful to all and most importantly have fun cheering on your team! CHAIR , B A SK E T B AL L N S W J E N NY DE A N On behalf of the Board, I am very pleased to welcome all our participants to the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 East & Spalding Waratah League Finals Weekend at the Hills Basketball Stadium. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our special guests and sponsors in attendance this weekend, without your commitment and support, events such as ours can not happen. A special mention to NBL1 National Sponsor Coles Express and Basketball NSW naming rights and basketball sponsor Spalding for their long-lasting support of basketball in Australia & New South Wales. This year we saw the success first hand of both NSW entering the NBL1 Competition as well as implementing our inaugural season of Wheelchair Basketball. Basketball in New South Wales has never been stronger and the establishment of NBL1 East has only seen the sport go from strength to strength with some of the best players from across the globe and the nation joining our league in 2022. Our Waratah Wheelchair League has also typified success with eight associations hosting teams that sees international paralympians to homegrown heroes feature during league. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has played a part in our community this year. So thank you very much for the immeasurably valuable work you all have done day in and day out to get everyone on the court. I would also like to congratulate all the athletes, coaches and officials that will represent their respective associations this weekend. You have all worked incredibly hard to get to this point and we hope you enjoy this experience. Finally, enjoy your weekend here at Castle Hill, play hard, have fun and respect the opposition and match officials. We all can’t wait to see who will take home the 2022 crowns after 652 games this season. Let the games begin!
