Parents, Students, Educators and Artists, Our summer catalog of offerings from our Art Organizations continue to support our goal of student engagement in the arts all year! These offerings are in many of the art forms such as dance, music, creative writing, theater, performance, all which support student development in the arts. This summer, the offerings are virtual and in person. Take time to review the offerings and register your student(s) in an offering that will enhance their summer and continue their engagement in the Arts! An introduction to the world of graphic arts (printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, calligraphy, computer graphics). Participants will learn history, techniques, tools, materials, processes, and visual storytelling. B STREET SFYA SUMMER CAMP 2021 SCHEDULE Hey everybody! After a year of lockdowns, shut-ins, and virtual gatherings, we are happy to announce that our Studio for Young Actors Summer Camp 2021 will return to in-person classes at the Sofia! Our Camps will feature a spectrum of creative and engaging daily activities for participants, tailored to their age and interests. In our ongoing effort to ensure the health and safety of student, teachers, and family members alike, we will be limiting enrollment this Summer to no more than 15 daily participants. JUNIORS (6-8yrs) July 12-July 17, 9:00am-2:00pm • Arts & Crafts & Games! Young Picassos or Frida Kahlos will explore their own creativity painting, drawing, and creating stories! • Acting & Short Play Performance! Young actors learn & perform short plays from B Street Theatre’s extensive catalog of scripts! • Dance & Sing! Young campers dip their toes into Broadway-style choreography, and help aspiring performers gain self- confidence! We’ll meet Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm for Juniors & Youth; 10:00-3:00pm for Teens. Each session will culminate with a showcase performance on the final Saturdays, where our young performers show off everything they’ve learned. Due to current health guidelines, attendance will be limited. Is lunch provided? Each student should BRING A BAG LUNCH. We will eat around noon each day in the courtyard. We will also have a snack break in the morning. An individually packaged snack will be safely provided. Do we need to audition? Auditions are not required for the Studio for Young Actors Summer Program. All skill levels welcome. We make an effort to pair students appropriately in regards to age and skill level. What if I need to cancel? Is class registration non-refundable? There is a $25.00 processing fee for all cancellations. There are NO refunds once classes begin. More Questions? NorCal School of the Arts' mission is to provide holistic, individualized, and professional theater arts training programs that support artists from diverse communities in creating, expressing themselves, and participating in theater arts educational opportunities. Through arts engagement, students are empowered to embrace social and emotional learning strategies as well as create a positive mindset toward themselves and their community. In addition, he has taught Music for Children at American River College, and Jazz Studies courses at CSUS. Phil has been honored by the Mayor and Sacramento City Council for his work in the area of arts education and music. As a professional musician, he has performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic, Broadway Sacramento/Music Circus, and jazz/pop greats including Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. From the covered wagon days of the 1800's, to modern-day messages sent into space, Phil shows how we have digitized our alphabet into a code that we can read, hear, and now play as music! Your students will visit the Voyager spacecraft and experience images and languages on NASA's Golden Record. As the students listen to thunderstorms, barking dogs, and race cars, they learn to connect their knowledge of sequence, inference, and prediction, to the sounds in their world. Throughout the program, Phil shows the students his mindfulness breathing exercises for emotional balance, focused listening, and successful learning. He uses a sound cannon to show how mechanical energy moves the air to make sound. He also demonstrates how energy can be converted into multiple forms by transmitting sound over a beam of light using a flashlight and a solar cell. Finally, he shows the students a variety of fun scientific experiments they can do at home with just a smart phone!
