2021 SPRING LEAGUE

Founded in 1999, Kidzplay Netball is an open netball league for Primary School players. We offer an
environment for children to have the opportunity to have fun while learning ball skills, team work, fair play
and the pure enjoyment of playing a sport.

COMPETITION INFORMATION
 The 2021 Spring League will run from the 30th October to the 4th December - 6 weeks.
There is no netball on Saturday, 25th October – Labour Weekend.
NB: All 2021 dates subject to Auckland being in COVID-19 Alert Level 1.

 All games are non-competitive and are played on Saturdays at Pinehurst School, Bush Road, Albany from
8.45am until mid afternoon, rain or shine. Time for the final game depends on the number of teams
    involved in the league.

 Year 1 children play a Six-a-Side version of netball. They play on a 3/4 size court with a size 4 netball
and shoot at 1.8m (6ft) goal posts. Six players make up a team of 2 x centres; 2 x defenders; 2 x attack-
ers. The centres can play anywhere on the court except in the goal circles. The attackers and defenders
can play in the goal circle, goal 1/3 and centre 1/3. Please refer to the Kidzplay Netball website for more
information. Bibs are provided for the games. If the team is using their own umpire this person must be
an adult willing to work with our mentors. The games are 10 minute halves with a two minute break at
    half time.

Please note: Year 1 teams who have participated in the 2021 Winter League may choose to play
standard netball with the Year 2 height goal post. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like
to play Year 1 Standard Netball (Seven-a-Side) or Year 1 Six-a-Side.

 Year 2 play on a 3/4 size court, with a size 4 netball and shoot at 2.3m (7ft 6inch) goals. These children
are placed into the traditional positions of netball but the main emphasis is on the understanding of pass-
ing the ball down the court towards their goal and then shooting a goal. The games are two 15 minute
halves with a two minute break at half time.

 Year 3 and Year 4 play on a full size court with a size 4 netball and shoot at 2.6m (8ft 6inch) goal posts.
The players quickly develop their skills and the understanding of netball. The games are two 15 minute
halves with a two minute break at half time.

 Year 5 and Year 6 teams play on a full size court with a size 4 netball and shoot at 3.05m (10ft) goal
posts. The games are two 15 minute halves with a two minute break at half time.

Your school team(s) or group of friends (not connected to a school) are invited to take part in our league. You
do not have to enter through a school, it can be a group of friends who want to play together.

Please note this league does not cater for individual players, only registrations of teams are accepted.

Closing date for registrations is Wednesday, 22nd September 2021. Please get your registrations in early as it
may be necessary to have a cut off point.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We look forward to your involvement.

Kind regards

Anina

2021 SPRING LEAGUE

RULES OF PARTICIPATION

1. Rotation rules for the different year levels:
 Year 1 teams playing Six-a-Side netball must rotate every second week. They will play Centre twice,
Defence twice, Attack twice, over 6 weeks. This is to ensure that all players have the opportunity to
       learn the different positions.
A handy spreadsheet for working out player rotations can be downloaded here.
Positions must not be changed at half time – it is too complicated for the young players.
 Experienced Year 1 teams who choose to play Standard Netball (Seven-a-Side) will follow the same
rotation rules as the Year 2 – 4 teams.
 Year 2 – Year 4 teams must rotate positions each week ensuring that each position is played over
the season. This is to ensure that all players have the opportunity to learn all the positions and gain a
better understanding of how the positions work together.
Click here to download the templates for working out rotations.
As the Spring League is fun and non-competitive, positions may be swapped at half time.
 Year 5 and Year 6 teams will play straight netball with no compulsory rotations of positions and
players may be swapped at half time. This is to help prepare the players for next year.
2. Umpiring:
 Each team is to supply their own umpire or pay $10.00 per game to use a Kidzplay Netball Pool
Umpire (refer to the Umpire Pool notes on page 3).
 Two umpires control the game in the Netball NZ format, with some small variance based on age group
and ability. Please refer to our website for the Kidzplay Netball Umpiring Guidelines.
 Umpires must be over the age of 11 years (Year 6) and must have completed an umpiring course.
 Year 5 and Year 6 teams: All Year 5 and Year 6 teams will have qualified umpires (Junior Badge or
       higher qualification).
 Year 1 teams: If providing your own umpire for this age group they must be an adult willing to work
       with our mentors.
3. Scoring:
 Each team must supply one scorer, who will keep score together on the official scorecard provided.
 Failure of a team to supply a scorer means they must accept the score as presented by the opposing
       team on the official scorecard.
 Complaints regarding the official score will not be accepted. It is the team’s responsibility to ensure
that the correct score is recorded during the game on the official scorecard
4. NO jewellery - Players are NOT allowed on the court wearing earrings (including keepers), watches or
other jewellery. Taping of earrings or bangles is NOT allowed. NO exceptions will be made
5. Players’ nails must be short and smooth and long hair must be tied back.
6. Boys can play:
 A maximum of two boys allowed per team on the court. Only one boy per team is permitted in the goal
       circle at any given time.
7. Teams may enter combined teams, e.g. Year 1 may play in a Year 2 team, Year 2 in a Year 3 team, etc.
8. Players may play up but cannot play down a grade or a year level.
9. Teams are required to list their players on the back of the scorecards in their playing positions.
10. We expect supporters on the sideline to leave the coaching of the teams to the coaches, umpiring to the
umpires and ask that they give only positive support to all.
11. We expect teams and their supporters to respect the Kidzplay Netball officials, all umpires, all players
    and all coaches.
12. Games will not be cancelled due to the weather. In the case of extreme weather warnings this decision
may be changed. Please refer to our website.

All draws and related information can be found at www.kidzplaynetball.co.nz
Please note: We do not change draws once they are finalised and published.
Don’t forget to also ‘Like’ our Kidzplay Netball Facebook page as this is a good place to receive reminders
and information updates: www.facebook.com/KidzplayNetball

Spring League Grading
The Spring League is non-competitive. Depending on the number of registrations teams will be informally
grouped to match skill and experience. To help us, please number your teams on the registration form if you
have more than one in an age group to show the level within your school.

Time Requests
Time requests are accepted for specific netball reasons. That is to assist in handling coach/umpire/player con-
flicts. They are NOT for teams who wish to elect a preferred playing time for non netball reasons.

Communication
All teams must direct any questions directly to their School Co-ordinators, Coaches or Managers in the first
instance. The School Co-ordinator, Coach or Manager shall be the only person to make communication with
the Kidzplay Netball Co-ordinator on the school's behalf regarding any team changes or queries. All requests
and complaints should be made by the School Co-ordinator, Coach or Manager and not by parents,
supporters, umpires, etc.

Umpire Pool
We do have a pool of umpires who we may be able to supply for your game if required. This can be a long
standing arrangement or a one off request.
If you require an umpire each week please mark this on the registration form.
The Umpire fee of $10.00 per game is to be paid directly to the umpire, preferably before the game.
One-off requests need to be booked by the Tuesday prior to the game so that we can arrange to have some-
one available. If you cancel your umpire request you must let us know before 10.00am on the Wednesday
prior to the game or the $10.00 will still be payable to the umpire (please hand into the control table).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Umpire Mentors/Officials
Kidzplay Netball provides Umpire Mentors who are at the courts to support ALL umpires. These ladies are
experienced umpires who will be available to offer advice and encouragement and to answer any queries that
arise from time to time. They are easily identified by their orange or blue jackets.
If advice is given to an umpire we ask this be accepted and acted upon in the intent it was expressed – to
improve the netball experience for our players.
Please do not hesitate to ask them for assistance if you have any issues at all during your games. Always
remember it is best for them to come and observe whilst the problem is happening as we cannot fix problems
after the event.
Please note: Complaints regarding umpiring decisions will not be accepted unless a Kidzplay Netball
Official/Umpire Mentor has been called to the court during the game.

Umpire Jackets
We ask all umpires to wear the umpire jackets supplied to make them easily identifiable to players and
supporters alike. Umpires can pick these up and return to the control tables.
All team Umpires are to wear the yellow vests and the Kidzplay Netball Pool Umpires are to wear the white
jackets.

Scorecards
Scorecards are picked up from the timing table closest to the game. Even though this is the responsibility of
the umpire, we do ask each team to confirm the card has been uplifted prior to the commencement of the
game. Please ensure that at the end of each game the score card is returned to the control table.
Please note: One person from each team shall stand together and ensure that the score is recorded on the
scorecard. At the end of the game the scorecard must be signed by the scorer from each team and this is the
only result that will be recognised by Kidzplay Netball.
No disputes are accepted and cards cannot be changed after the game. NO exceptions will be made.
If you are experiencing problems please send for an Umpire Mentor to sort it out during the game.

Parking
Park safely and keep everyone safe. Please be careful where you choose to park. Auckland Transport (AT)
can and do enforce parking restrictions on the roads around the venue. In particular we recommend not park-
ing on cycle lanes or other restricted areas. Note: There is no parking on the cycle lanes along Rosedale
Road. Please park either on the southern side of Bush Road (commercial area) or in streets off Rosedale
Road west off the lights at the junction with Bush Road.

Lost Property
Every year there is a considerable amount of lost property left around the courts. We collect this property and
put it on display each week at the control tables.
Anything not claimed or able to be identified by the end of the league will be given to charity.

Safety
 NO dogs (other than guide dogs) are allowed on the school grounds. Please advise all supporters of this.
 All Pinehurst School buildings and grounds are Smoke Free. Smoking is forbidden in ALL areas.
 Bicycles, skates, skateboards, scooters or anything similar are not permitted in the court enclosure.
 Parents are responsible for young siblings at all times. Please ensure children do not climb over the
   tennis nets.
 Allow extra time to park safely.

COACHES GUIDELINES
The objective of this netball league is to introduce the basic concept of netball to all players. Just as
importantly we strive to provide enjoyable netball for the players, coaches, umpires and parents in a safe and
friendly environment. Remember that children play for FUN.

To support this:
 Ensure that coaching is undertaken on practice days, not during the game on Saturday.
 Allow the players the space to learn to play netball without continual instructions.
 Please do not run up and down the sideline.
 Be patient with all players as it does come together in a surprisingly quick time.
 Do not try to play the game for the players.
 Give only positive support to all.
 Encourage, encourage, encourage!
 Be an exemplary role model.
 Encourage fair play.
 Do not coach the team while umpiring. If the coach is umpiring it is necessary to wear an “umpire’s hat”
    and not the “coaches hat”.
 Supporters and coaches must respect umpires’ decisions - NO spectator influence will be accepted!
 Refrain from talking to the umpire during the game.
 No coaches or parents are allowed on the court during games. The playing area is for the players.
 Please ensure your team’s supporters cheer from the sideline as supporters and coaches are not allowed
to stand at either goal/base lines, but are welcome along the court sideline.
 Ensure your team and supporters respect all umpires, all players and all coaches.
 Encourage your team to show good sportsmanship both on and off the court regardless whether they win
    or lose.
 Coaches have the right to ask for a Kidzplay Netball Umpire Mentor to be present should a problem arise.
                                                      5

• Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!
• We encourage alternative end of game traditions (instead of hi-fives).
• QR codes will be available at all our courts and we ask all teams and their supporters to download the NZ
Government tracer app and scan the QR code every week when attending netball. Please advise all sup-
    porters of this.
• All teams are required to list their players on the back of the scorecards in their playing positions each
    week.
• Teams are also responsible to keep a record of their attendees (players and supporters).
• Players are encouraged to sanitise before, at half time and after their games. Please keep hand sanitiser
    in your team bags.
• Hand sanitiser stations will be available at a number of places on the school site.
• We are asking our community to make sure they are up to date with the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19

• In the event of community transmission in New Zealand, schools are required to advise us of any cases in
their school community as soon as possible.

We ask that all schools take responsibility for players and supporters of their teams. Our model is that the
coach/manager of each team has the responsibility to ensure that all supporters of their teams have the NZ
Government tracer app and have scanned the QR code.
