202 1 S TATE A QU ATI CS CO NFERE CE WELCOME Welcome to the Life Saving SA 2021 South Australian Aquatics State Conference. We would like to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the land. We respect their spiritual relationship with their country and acknowledge their Elders – past, present and emerging. We would also like to acknowledge the traditional custodians and owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and pay our respects all Elders – past, present and emerging. After what has been arguably the most difficult and challenging year in decades, the primary focus of the 2021 Conference is “Resilience” and the impact and learnings from COVID-19 that was experienced in 2020. We have been lucky enough to secure three highly regarded, skilled and very special keynote speakers for today’s Conference, all of which have overcome their own adversity and are able to share their fascinating stories for you today. The conference will also touch on the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030 - Let’s Be Active and the Office for Rec, Sport and Racings – Game On Project and Grants Review. The conference aims at exploring how physical activity, mental strength and “Resilience” can be adopted in many different ways to provide health benefits and safety around water. The Aquatic industry of South Australia offers a diverse range of activities and programs designed for people of all ages, interests, backgrounds and fitness and swimming levels. The conference offers a fantastic opportunity to explore ways in which these programs and activities can be promoted and supported by people actively working in the industry. CONFERENCE TOPICS Five individual conference topics will be offered. These will be presented by speakers from across the National aquatic industry. They will provide practical advice, information, opportunities through aquatics programs and raising the awareness and importance of water safety.
202 1 S TATE A QU ATI CS CO NFERE CE LIFE SAVING SA 2021 AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE Join industry leaders and professionals at this special breakfast event held to celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations making an outstanding contribution to the South Australian Aquatic Industry. The Awards of Excellence showcases the outstanding work of professionals who deliver enormous benefit to our communities in promoting the benefits of water safety. The Awards Breakfast will kick-start the Life Saving SA 2021 State Conference. This will be an opportunity for delegates to be inspired by outstanding events, projects and high- performing individuals in the South Australian Aquatics industry and will be opened by the Honourable Minister Corey Wingard or Matt Cowdrey OAM MP Member for Colton. FOUR AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED: ❖ 2021 – Watch Around Water Innovation award: This award celebrates the achievements of a committed and dedicated facility that implements and innovates the Watch Around Water program better than any other pool or centre in South Australia. The award serves to encourage registered Watch Around Water centres to promote the program’s water safety messages beyond the marketing tools provided by LSSA. ❖ 2021 – Pool Lifeguard of the year: This award celebrates the achievements and accomplishments of a pool lifeguard and their commitment to the preservation of life within our pools and the industry. ❖ 2021 – Pool employee of the year: This award celebrates the achievements and accomplishments of a pool operator, manager, staff member, volunteer and/or other worker that has demonstrated significant dedication to the industry and their facility. ❖ 2021 – Community Aquatic Program of the year: This award celebrates a specialised and tailored program that has been facilitated and delivered within the Aquatic Industry to achieve a specific outcome. 202 1 - KEY NO TE S PEA KER S JESSICA STENSON (née TRENGOVE) Australian marathon runner JESSICA STENSON (née TRENGOVE) is an Australian marathon running. Her first running race was as a five-year-old at a Naracoorte Primary School cross country event. There was a strong sporting culture in the town of Naracoorte, located in South Australia’s South-East, where the three Trengove siblings were raised by their parents, Deb and Colin. The Trengove family enjoyed a variety of sports, including netball, football, tennis and athletics. In 2000 they had the incredible opportunity to fuel this family passion, as spectators at the Sydney Olympics. Here, Jessica met her idol and Australian Marathon record-holder, Benita Willis. Jessica moved to Adelaide as a boarder in 2003 to complete her studies at Annesley College. In 2005 she was voted into the honourable role of College Head Prefect, a position that helped to develop her skills in teamwork, communication, public speaking, organisation, time-management and delegation. Whilst Jessica was interested in studying Veterinary Science at Murdoch University like her Father, she commenced a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in her first year out of school to remain closer to home for a bit longer. She fell in love with the course and thrived on learning about the human body and graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the end of 2009. Competing at the Olympics had always been a big aspiration of Jessica’s and in 2012 that dream came alive, earlier in her career than anticipated. In the fastest debut marathon by an Australian female, Jessica achieved an Olympic A-qualifying standard at a Japanese race in 2012, resulting in her selection for the London Olympics. She went on to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games coming in number 22. She also competed in the 2015 Melbourne Marathon being the first female to cross the line in 2hr.27.45. In 2017 Jessica added to her list of achievements 9th place at IAAF World Championships Marathon, the highest placing by an Australian female in a World Championships Marathon and10th place at the 2017 London Marathon. - Jessica won a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast then went on to post a personal best time of 2h 25.59 later that year. In November of 2019 she and her husband Dylan welcomed a baby boy to the world.
202 1 - KEY NO TE S PEA KER S ANTHONY HART Invigor Wellbeing – Founder Happier. Healthier. Anthony is a passionate social entrepreneur, advocate for mind health and a man on a mission to shift the narrative around mental health in Australia. He strives to empower others with simple tools to inspire and activate better conversations, connections, and communities. On November 7, 2003 Anthony Hart was on anti-depressants, sleep deprived and suffering depression and subsequently made a significant attempt on his life. Through a remarkable stroke of luck, he clung onto life and survived. Through his arduous recovery and journey back, Anthony uncovered four powerful yet simple steps to better mind health. In with collaboration with SAHMRI, he turned these steps into a free app - Life back Tracker. Fast forward to today, the business he leads, Invigor Wellbeing, has created a powerful Annual Mind Health Program designed to unite Employers with Employees by building a 'Culture of Care' through their organisations. The program has the potential to significantly improve the mind and physical wellbeing of participants, with enormous mutual benefits. As a speaker, Anthony is a gregarious and relatable presenter who delivers the raw truth about mind health in Australia yet does so in a manner that empowers the audience with early intervention tools to facilitate positive changes in their own lives or the lives of others. His stories inspire, activate, and educate the audience to join a new movement that nurtures positive support for those suffering from depression and anxiety. It is Anthony's mission in life to share his story so that others don’t go down the same path he did.
202 1 - KEY NO TE S PEA KER S THOMAS FOSTER Invictus Games 5 X Gold Medal winner Thomas is an ADF veteran who served with the 1st Combat Engineer Regiment. He grew up in Western Australia in a family steeped in swimming, athletes and coaches. He was injured during a training exercise which later lead to his involuntary discharge from a promising career in the Army. This turned his world in many directions. Thomas has represented his country and the ADF in the international sporting arena for wounded, ill and injured service personnel, including the 2018 Sydney Invictus Games. He continues his recovery from his various injuries with the aid of adaptive sports and community engagement. He gives others deep insights into the challenges he has faced and how both individuals and communities are pivotal in changing the direction of the lives of others.

P RESE NTERS AQUATIC CONFERENCE TOPIC PRESENTERS DONNA WILMOTT is the Fitness Coordinator at Parafield Gardens Swim School where she has worked for 7 years teaching aqua fitness classes. Fitness has always been in her blood and she has a wealth of experience in coaching gymnastics, and as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. Her experience includes teaching Zumba, Aqua Zumba, Spin, HIIT and boxing. It was her work with Parafield Gardens Swim School that opened her mind to the benefits of training in water and where she found her passions for Aqua Fitness. In 2015, Donna was instrumental in the introduction of the Acquapole® products and programs into the Australasian market with the introduction of Acquapole® at Parafield Gardens Swim School. In 2016 she took on the role of Master Trainer with Acquapole® Australasia. In 2018 she became a Master Trainer for the SAF Aqua Drums Vibes Program & in 2019 the Master Trainer for Salti Australia, Australia's leading platform for floating fitness. Donna presented at Filex in 2019 and is again presenting in 2020. In February 2020, she coordinated the first Australian International Aqua Fitness Convention for Acquapole® Australasia in Adelaide with five international presenters from Italy and Poland along with Australian presenters. DR JEFF WALKLEY All In! Innovative online training and onsite support to swim schoolteachers to support inclusion DR JEFF WALKLEY is the National Disability & Diversity Manager with Belgravia Leisure, and CEO of the Belgravia Foundation. Over four decades, Dr Walkley has shown exemplary contributions in sport, recreation, physical activity, physical education, and disability. In the past year, he has presented Australia-wide at leisure, recreation, inclusion and diversity conferences, championing the contribution leisure and recreation can make through inclusion and diversity, contributing to improved health and happiness for people, families and communities. Dr Walkley has provided advice to Governments, Departments of Sport & Recreation, Education and Human Services and, national sports and organisations related to the importance and strategies to promote participation in sport and recreation, disability, obesity, as well as expert advice related to these matters in legal proceedings, culminating in improved access to sport for girls.
P RESE NTERS SIMON WEATHERILL SIMON WEATHERILL has over 40 years’ experience leading teams and organisations in the business and sporting world. He has managed the development of over $500 million dollars of sporting infrastructure projects as well as facilitating 2,500 major events including Commonwealth Games 2006, World Swimming Championships 2007 and the World Masters Games 2002. Simon has managed facilities in both the United Kingdom and Australia and lectured for three years at Deakin University in the Sports Management Graduate and Undergraduate courses. He is currently the Managing Director for Worldwide Sports Management, a boutique management company specialising in people, infrastructure, and technology. He is a sought-after speaker on Leadership and Cultural Change, Sports, Facility Management and Establishment, commercial coaching, and strategic planning. ADAM LUSCOMBE Adam has vast experience in many sporting arenas running significant events and High Performance / Pathway sport. He does his best work at the critical intersection of strategy and operations. This unique leadership trait allows him to develop teams and organisations capable of translating transformational change plans and intentions into tangible frontline business improvement. The COVID-19 period has, in fact, given him a rare opportunity to leverage and showcase South Australia’s full potential and his repertoire of leadership skills. Through a carefully constructed crisis management program, the $120 million South Australian Aquatic & Leisure Centre was the first Aquatic Centre in the world open. This effort then led to a YMCA lead recovery for sport and recent Swimming Australia Olympic trials. This event was proclaimed by many as the best National Championships ever run for sport. Creating, navigating and solving problems comes from Adam’s 30 years’ experience of High-Performance Coaching, Board experience (including SLSSA) running two States major pieces of sporting infrastructure, numerous Major International and National level Events, Team Manager of Swimming for Athens 2004 Paralympics, National Scholarship Coach Swimming, 1996 and academic learnings with University of New England, Harvard and lecturing at the University of South Australia.
