WELCOME
Welcome to the Life Saving SA 2021 South Australian Aquatics State Conference.
We would like to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the land.
We respect their spiritual relationship with their country and acknowledge their Elders –
past, present and emerging. We would also like to acknowledge the traditional custodians
and owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to
land, waters and culture and pay our respects all Elders – past, present and emerging.
After what has been arguably the most difficult and challenging year in decades, the primary
focus of the 2021 Conference is “Resilience” and the impact and learnings from COVID-19
that was experienced in 2020. We have been lucky enough to secure three highly regarded,
skilled and very special keynote speakers for today’s Conference, all of which have
overcome their own adversity and are able to share their fascinating stories for you today.
The conference will also touch on the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Action Plan
on Physical Activity 2018-2030 - Let’s Be Active and the Office for Rec, Sport and Racings –
Game On Project and Grants Review.
The conference aims at exploring how physical activity, mental strength and “Resilience”
can be adopted in many different ways to provide health benefits and safety around water.
The Aquatic industry of South Australia offers a diverse range of activities and programs
designed for people of all ages, interests, backgrounds and fitness and swimming levels. The
conference offers a fantastic opportunity to explore ways in which these programs and
activities can be promoted and supported by people actively working in the industry.

CONFERENCE TOPICS
Five individual conference topics will be offered. These will be presented by speakers from
across the National aquatic industry. They will provide practical advice, information,
opportunities through aquatics programs and raising the awareness and importance of
water safety.

     JESSICA STENSON (née TRENGOVE)
     Australian marathon runner
JESSICA STENSON (née TRENGOVE) is an Australian marathon
running. Her first running race was as a five-year-old at a
Naracoorte Primary School cross country event. There was a strong
sporting culture in the town of Naracoorte, located in South
Australia’s South-East, where the three Trengove siblings were
raised by their parents, Deb and Colin. The Trengove family
enjoyed a variety of sports, including netball, football, tennis and
athletics. In 2000 they had the incredible opportunity to fuel this
family passion, as spectators at the Sydney Olympics. Here, Jessica
met her idol and Australian Marathon record-holder, Benita Willis.
Jessica moved to Adelaide as a boarder in 2003 to complete her
studies at Annesley College. In 2005 she was voted into the
honourable role of College Head Prefect, a position that helped to
develop her skills in teamwork, communication, public speaking,
      organisation, time-management and delegation.
Whilst Jessica was interested in studying Veterinary Science at
Murdoch University like her Father, she commenced a Bachelor of
Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in her first year
out of school to remain closer to home for a bit longer. She fell in
love with the course and thrived on learning about the human
body and graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the end of
      2009.
Competing at the Olympics had always been a big aspiration of
Jessica’s and in 2012 that dream came alive, earlier in her career
than anticipated. In the fastest debut marathon by an Australian
female, Jessica achieved an Olympic A-qualifying standard at a
Japanese race in 2012, resulting in her selection for the London
Olympics. She went on to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
coming in number 22. She also competed in the 2015 Melbourne
Marathon being the first female to cross the line in 2hr.27.45.
In 2017 Jessica added to her list of achievements 9th place at
IAAF World Championships Marathon, the highest placing by an
Australian female in a World Championships Marathon and10th
place at the 2017 London Marathon. - Jessica won a bronze medal
at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast then went
on to post a personal best time of 2h 25.59 later that year. In
November of 2019 she and her husband Dylan welcomed a baby
      boy to the world.
