INTERSCHOOLS IN 2021 ENTER COMPETENT SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS ONLY • Perisher and Thredbo will not be at their usual pre-Covid capacity in terms of providing competition training through their snowsports schools due to a lack of available International staff in 2021. • Students must be competent skiers and/or snowboarders to enter our events. • Advised that schools do not move to ‘fill the team spots’ with participants of minimal skill ability.
INTERSCHOOLS 2021 • The health and safety of our students, teachers, parents and officials are our number one priority. • We are working closely with Perisher and Thredbo to provide a safe return to Interschools. • We will keep you informed as best we can at all times on any impact of the running of our events due to NSW Government and COVID-19 restrictions.
REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS NEW REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The South-West NSW & South Australia Championships Falls Creek NO MOGULS AT REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS An announcement was made in March that Moguls will not be held at the Regional Championships. To enter Moguls at State, competitors must have previous Interschools Moguls experience. NORTHERN NSW-QLD CHAMPS COMPETITION SCHEDULE The Northern NSW & QLD June/July Event at Perisher will be scheduled for the later afternoon and evening of all 5 event days. Entries will open Monday May 17. EVENT OFFICE Outside location and reduced operating hours NO INSIDE PRESENTATIONS No inside Award Ceremonies and planning for smaller ceremonies.
TICKETING AT EVENTS • The resorts have confirmed that Interschools event tickets will be available to purchase for all competitors, team managers and school coordinators for their specific event days, along with free of charge list tickets for volunteer course officials. • NOTE THAT this Interschools event ticketing will most likely not be available until the week prior to each event, and arrangements on how to purchase these tickets will be made available closer to the event days. • For those that are not competitors, not team managers and not school coordinators, day tickets are available to purchase now at Thredbo, whilst Perisher have advised that day tickets will go on sale in late May.
YEAR 13 COMPETITION FOR YEAR 12 2020 STUDENTS For 2020 Year 12 participants who missed out on the opportunity to compete in Interschools Snowsport events during their final year of schooling, we are planning ‘Year 13’ Interschools Competitions at our State Competition at Perisher in 2021. Further participation and event entry details will be released in the coming months.
INTERSCHOOLS ONLINE OFFICIAL’S COURSE School entry requirement that one volunteer course official is to be supplied for every 8 entries that a school enters. Online Interschools Officials Training Course available from mid May.
NSW/ACT/QLD/SA RULES OF COMPETITION 2021 Rule Changes • Race Suits - ‘Race suits are not permitted in Division 4, 5 & 6 events. Race suits are permitted in Divisions 1, 2 & 3 Alpine GS and Snowboard GS events.’ Implemented at Regional, State and National event level. • Waxing - in all Disciplines. ‘Waxing of any type is prohibited in the start area or competition course arena. Fluoro wax and Fluorocarbon liquid sprays are prohibited. The Interschools Committee advises that equipment may be subject to inspection.’ Implemented at Regional, State and National event level. • Complete Stop – in Alpine and Snowboard GS + Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross. ‘If a competitor comes to a complete stop (e.g., after a fall) they must no longer continue. A complete stop is deemed to occur when the competitor is no longer moving downhill. The competitor must exit to the side of the course as soon as possible to avoid interfering with the next competitor’s run. The competitor is not permitted to hike or hop uphill toward a missed gate. Provided that the competitor does not cross the finish line, they will record a DNF (Did Not Finish) for that run. In the event that the said competitor DOES cross the finish line, they may be disqualified (DSQ) for continuing. A competitor must not be physically assisted during their run, unless for safety reasons. They will record a DSQ (Disqualification) for that run if they are assisted.’ Implemented at Regional, State and National event level.
NSW/ACT/QLD/SA RULES OF COMPETITION • In Alpine and Ski Cross, if a competitor loses both skis, they must exit the course as soon as possible. Provided that the competitor does not cross the finish line, they will record a DNF (Did Not Finish) for this run. In the event that the said competitor DOES cross the finish line, they may be disqualified for continuing. Exception: In the event that a competitor loses both skis after the last gate, they may cross the finish line without skis. • In Alpine and Ski Cross, if a competitor loses one ski, they must exit the course as soon as possible. Provided that the competitor does not cross the finish line, they will record a DNF (Did Not Finish) for this run. In the event that the said competitor DOES cross the finish line, they may be disqualified for continuing. Exception: In the event that a competitor loses one ski without having committed a gate fault or without coming to a complete stop, they may continue as long as there are no more than two gates to complete on one ski before the finish. NOTE: BOTH ski boots must pass ALL gates correctly. Provided that a ski is connected to a ski boot, it must pass the gate-line correctly at all times. • A competitor must not be physical assisted during his or her run unless for safety reasons. They will record a DSQ (disqualification) for that run if they are assisted.
NSW/ACT/QLD/SA RULES OF COMPETITION • Alpine GS + Snowboard GS - (2 runs for all competitors in all events) – Best of Two Runs (Times) for both Team and Individual competitors. In Alpine GS, the Team result takes the best 3 timed runs from each individual competitor in a team of 3-4 members in an Alpine GS Team, from either their first or second run, and combines those 3 best times. In Snowboard GS, the Team result takes the best 2 times of the 2-3 Team Members in a Snowboard GS Team, from either their first or second run, and combines those 2 best times. The Individual result takes the best-timed run from a competitor, in either of their 2 runs. Implemented at Regional and State level. • Ski Cross + Snowboard Cross - (2 runs for all competitors in all events) – Best of Two Runs (Times) for both Team and Individual competitors. The Team result takes the best 2 timed runs from each individual competitor (in a team of 2-3 members), from either their first or second run, and combines those 2 best times. The Individual result takes the best-timed run from a competitor, in either of their 2 runs. • Due to the removal of moguls at the 2021 Regional Championships, no Discipline and Champions School Awards will be awarded at these events.
NSW/ACT/QLD/SA RULES OF COMPETITION 2021 National Level Interschools Event • Alpine GS + Snowboard GS - (2 runs for all competitors in all events) – Combined Run Times for both Team and Individual competitors. In Alpine GS, the Team result takes the best 3 times in the first run of the 3-4 Team members in an Alpine GS Team and combines them the best 3 times in the second run. In Snowboard GS, the Team result takes the best 2 times in the first run of the 2-3 Team Members in a Snowboard GS Team, and combines them the best 2 times in the second run. The Individual result takes the 2 times from each competitor in both of their runs and combines them. • Moguls - (2 runs for all competitors in all events) – Best of Two Runs (Scores) for both Team and Individual competitors. The Team result takes the best 2 scored runs from each individual competitor (in a team of 2-3 members), from either their first or second run, and combines those 2 best scores. The Individual result takes the best-scored run from a competitor, in either of their 2 runs. • Slopestyle Ski + Board - (2 runs for all competitors in all events) - Best of Two Runs (Scores) for both Team and Individual competitors. The Team result takes the best 2 scored runs from each individual competitor (in a team of 2-3 members), from either their first or second run, and combines those 2 best scores. The Individual result takes the best-scored run from a competitor, in either of their 2 runs. • XC - (single run events) – Combined Team member times. Cross Country Classic events will now be run in NSW at State Interschools as well as National Interschools when hosted in NSW.
EXEMPTION RULE The National Interschools committee may consider exemptions for identified athletes who are unable to compete due to training and/or competition commitments who fall within the following criteria. No exemptions for medical reasons will be accepted. Please note: Exemptions are discipline specific. For example, a Snowboard competitor will only receive an exemption for Snowboard GS, Snowboard Cross and/or Snowboard Slopestyle. Applications will be accepted from: a) Competitors who are currently part of a Snow Australia Emerging Talent Program (ETP) and/or NSWIS Scholarship program or higher, an exemption application must be submitted to the National Interschools Committee prior to the close of entries for the Regional or State Championships. Once an exemption has been verified by the Snow Australia Performance Manager and approved by the National Interschools Committee, the competitor can enter the State or Australian Championships as an individual competitor for the discipline the exemption has been approved for. Alternatively the competitor can be entered into a school team for any discipline that has already qualified as per Rule 7.9. If the exempt competitor replaces an original team member, all original Regional level team members will still receive an invite to compete at the NSW/ACT/QLD State Championship within a team or as individual competitor.
EXEMPTION RULE b) NSW Clubs – Perisher Winter Sports Club and Thredbo Ski Racing Ski for Alpine and Ski Cross disciplines. NSW Clubs will submit a list of Alpine and Ski Cross competitors who meet the NSW Club Exemption Criteria for approval to the National Interschools Committee prior to the close of entries for the Regional Championships. Exemptions are for the Regional Championships only and are discipline specific to Alpine and Ski Cross only. Approved competitors will not be allowed to compete in any other Interschools discipline during the Regional Championships. Once an exemption has been approved by the National Interschools Committee, the competitor can enter the State Championships as an individual competitor for the discipline the exemption has been approved for. Alternatively, the competitor can be entered into a school team for any discipline that has already qualified as per Rule 7.9. If the exempt competitor replaces an original team member, all original Regional level team members will still receive an invite to compete at the NSW/ACT/QLD State Championship within a Team or as Individual competitor. c) The National Interschools Committee may consider applications from competitors who may not have competed at the Regional or State Championships due to participation at FIS or other Snow Sport Discipline Calendar events on the day/s of the Championships to compete at the State and/or National Championships as an individual competitor only. Times/placings from team individuals in the preceding year will be viewed to determine application outcomes. Exemptions are discipline specific. For example, a Snowboard competitor will only receive an exemption for Snowboard GS, Snowboard Cross and/or Snowboard Slopestyle. Once an exemption has been approved by the National Interschools Committee, the individual can enter the State Championships as an individual competitor for the discipline the exemption has been approved for. Alternatively, the competitor can be entered into a school team for any discipline that has already qualified as per Rule 7.9. If the exempt Competitor replaces an original team member, all original Regional level team members will still receive an invite to compete at the NSW/ACT/QLD State Championships within a Team or as Individual competitor.
PAYMENT OF TAX INVOICE Change of Bank Account Details in 2021 Due to a finance re-structure within Snow Australia, we wish to advise that the bank account details for Interschools entry payments has changed. Please forward these details to your finance department to update prior to making any payments. New Bank Account Account Name - Snow Australia Ltd BSB - 083-347 Account - 63-666-6174 Interschools is also in the process of updating our tax invoices to enable an option for online credit card payments. Further details of the upgrade will be announced shortly. When School Coordinators are completing entries, we ask that payments are only made once all entries are finalised to avoid incorrect payments due to additions or withdrawals of competitors.
SNOWRACER MEMBERSHIP • Snow Australia will be sending out an email shortly to all Snowracer members in relation to renewing their membership. • All Snowracer members will be asked to renew their membership and update their personal details for 2021. • Please notify your parents that you will not be able to enter their child/ren until their Snowracer memberships are active and a SnowID is provided. • If a parent is unsure of their child’s SnowID, it can be searched through the membership page of the Snow Australia website https://www.snowracer.com.au/registration/
