2021 NJLN Ballot Candidate Biographies and Position Statements POSITION: BOARD OF DIRECTORS Name of Nominee: Assumpta Ekeh, PhD, RN Employer: Seton Hall University Education: Kean University POSITION STATEMENT Educating nurses of the future is a core value that I embraced early on which guided part of my career aspirations. This principle led to my zeal to start teaching as a nursing adjunct faculty after obtaining a master’s degree in nursing education, primarily to help shape and make a difference in the future of new nursing undergraduates. To hone my teaching skills and obtain a reputable degree in my area of interest, I enrolled in a PhD in Nursing Educational Leadership program which I successfully completed. My academic and nursing education interests stemmed from my philosophy which supports that of the mission and philosophy of the New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN). I am active in both the New Jersey chapter and national body of Nigerian professional nursing association where I currently serve as member of the Education and the Research Committees, which are charged with the development/presentation of educational webinars and conducting the national body’s research activities. I presently serve as the chairperson of the Mentorship Committee of the professional association I belong to, which is committed to mentoring, supporting, and encouraging members who are bedside registered and licensed practical nurses to pursue baccalaureate programs in nursing for professional advancement and better patient healthcare outcomes. The Program Committee of the NJLN is of interest to me, and given my current nursing educational experience, is an area I fit in appropriately within the NJLN. If given the opportunity and elected to the Board member position, I will aid in the furtherance of NJLN mission and philosophy of promoting excellence in nursing education and professional advancement which are as well, my espoused values.
