Working Draft as of 3.23.21 The 8th Annual ED Games Expo: June 1 to 6, 2021 __________________________________________________________________________________ The ED Games Expo is the annual showcase of game-changing innovations in education that were developed with support across more than 30 programs at the US Department of Education and the federal government. (Watch short video trailers from the ED Games Expo in 2019 and 2020.) While the ED Games Expo intends to return to an in-person event at the Kennedy Center and across Washington, DC in 2022, the move to a virtual event in 2021 provides a unique opportunity to engage a national audience, and to extend the edtech that participants can demo and the programming that participants can attend. This year’s Expo focuses on providing resources to inform a new normal in education in the era of COVID19. 2021 ED GAMES EXPO: RESOURCES The 2021 ED Games Expo YouTube Channel & Guide: A 2021 ED Games Expo YouTube Channel is being created with short 90-second video trailers of ~150 government supported learning games and education technologies to support in-class and remote teaching and learning, in areas such as STEM, reading and writing, social studies, and health for children and students from pre-K to post-secondary education in education and special education,. Most of the education technologies featured in the playlists are ready to use now and available to try out at no cost during the month of June, 2021, whereas others being featured are coming soon. The Channel will also host the archived videos of the virtual events from the weeklong ED Games Expo. In addition to the YouTube Channel, the 2021 Guide to the ED Games Expo will published with short descriptions of all participating learning games and technologies, and information on the government programs that supported their development. The Guide will be similar to the one that was created for the 2020 Expo, see here. 1

Content will include clips by: ED leadership and government representatives, educators, developers, and animated and fun characters from the learning technologies of the Expo. Master Class Sessions for Educators: Eight edtech developers are producing 20-minute videos which provide educators examples of new models for implementing innovative learning game or technology-based intervention in a classroom or a remote setting. The videos will be followed by a Q&A conversation between the developers and small groups of educators. The events will first be broadcast during the Expo week during prime-time and archived for later viewing. How The Learning Game Was Made Events for Students: Five education learning game developers are producing 15-minute videos (like this one) sharing the story for how their learning game was developed, featuring the experts and roles it takes. The goal of the sessions to inspire and lead students to think about what role they could play, and to make the connection to their own education and career goals. The videos will be followed by a Q&A conversation between the developer and small groups of students. The events will be broadcast during the Expo week during prime-time and archived for later viewing. Showcase Events: ED and other government representatives will host virtual showcase events between 1PM and 6PM EST during the week of the Expo to feature and build capacity for key topics across the edtech ecosystem. 2020 ED Games Expo included Showcase Events focusing on areas including Special Education, Early Learning, eSports, Virtual Reality, Learning Games, and Making. 2021 Showcase Events are confirmed for Early Childhood & Special Education, Making for CTE, eSports, Learning Games, Social Studies and Civic Education; Rural Education; addressing the Digital Divide; STEM Challenges; and many more.
