Welcome... TIAC MISSION STATEMENT To advance art, craft, and our unique textile collection through education and exhibition. Thousand Islands Arts Center ...to our 55th season, and a year of exciting art and craft classes, eight kids camps, outstanding 314 John Street, Clayton, NY 13624 exhibitions and last but not least, the NEW 1000 Islands Art & Craft & Antique Festival. 315.686.4123 TIArtsCenter.org At the time of this writing (late February), we are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to hold all of our programs and host our full schedule of exhibitions and events, following federal Open Year Round and state protocols of course. After a drastically reduced calendar last year, we are eager to see 9 am–5 pm, Monday–Friday you all again, welcome several new instructors and returning ones, and offer over 75 classes. PLUS SUMMER HOURS: TIAC will install three major exhibitions this season: Bird on a Wire: The Art of Greg Lago; 10 am–3 pm, Saturday Summer Days, Summer Nights, (ceramics by Margie Hughto); and the longtime seasonal favorite Along the River’s Edge, a juried exhibition featuring artwork from the best regional and national artists representing the finest work in a range of mediums. In addition to the many ATRE featured 2021 Board of Trustees artists, the exhibition will present Jefferson County Birds — Drawings by Sue deLearie Adair. Chris Murray, Chair Joan Trimble Jordan And, for the first time, we will present an exhibit of the After School Arts program. Jan Hampton, Vice Chair Cindy McLean The pottery program, suspended at the onset of the pandemic, will continue under the Doreen Garrett, Treasurer Margot Miller direction of Kathleen Morris, TIAC’s new staff potter. Kathy will offer an array of classes including Sarah Riddoch, Secretary Jessica Murray continuous wheel sessions, private lessons, and open studio time. The pottery studio is also the Barbara Thomas, Past Chair Allan P. Newell perfect place to hold a birthday party, host a team building retreat or private event. Harriet Burris Amy Phelps The 26th Annual Weaving History Conference (cancelled last year) will be held virtually in Kathy Elliott Marsha Ringer Topa October and include an impressive lineup of academic presentations including keynote presenter Kathleen Hanna Marty Yenawine John Vollmer, an independent scholar and researcher recognized worldwide for his publications Ann Johnson-Kaiser concerning Asian textiles and their roles within society. Back for its eighth season, the Linda B. Yenawine Memorial Dine-Around will feature a dozen parties that were unable to run last summer and a few new ones, too. Finders Keepers, our resale shop offering eclectic and gently used vintage goods and antiques, will return after a very successful first season last year despite the virus. New this summer will be the 1000 Islands Art & Craft & Antique Festival which will replace the longstanding craft and antique shows. After 55 years for the Antique Show and 37 for the Craft Show, and a changing marketplace, our board, staff and development committee agreed it was time to change it up! And, so far, it’s been well received by many returning dealers. Please be sure to check out the complete calendar on page 38. On behalf of the TIAC Board of Trustees and staff, I thank you, especially our steadfast members, for your ongoing support. The allegiance shown TIAC over the past difficult pandemic year was heartening and illustrated just how important a vibrant arts scene is in our beloved River communities. See you soon! Leslie W.
