SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Friday, January 8 9AM RegistraƟon & Breakfast (Please note registraƟon does not open unƟl 9am) 10AM - 11:40AM Corneal DegeneraƟons and Dystrophies/Lonsberry/pending (2 hours) This interac ve course will examine corneal dystrophies and degenera ons, focusing on pa ent symptoms, diagnos c criteria, and impact on vision. The current surgical management and treatment op ons will be discussed. 11:40AM - 1:00PM Lunch/Exhibit Hall 1:00PM - 2:40PM InteracƟve Grand Rounds/Lonsberry/66811-SD (2 hours) Cri cal to a clinicians prac ce is the ability to diagnose and manage unique and interes ng presenta ons of typical ocular condi ons, or to be able to diagnose a previously un-encountered condi on. The following interac ve lecture will present pa ent cases with unique presenta ons of ocular condi ons, including special tes ng. The course will focus on the clinicians ability to analyze and interpret the unique case presenta on and provide appropriate management and treatment op ons. 2:40PM - 3:00PM Break with Exhibitors 3:00PM - 4:40PM How Does RefracƟve Surgery Fit in Your PracƟce?/Fintelmann/pending (2 hours) Refrac ve Surgery is a part of optometric prac ce. It fits naturally in the business model of many optometrists and the thinking process associated with it comes natural to most contact lens specialists. I invite you to look at how you view refrac ve surgery in light of recent advances in technology and the current situa on. I will review refrac ve thinking, technology and its overlap with the contact lens prac ce. Saturday, January 9 8AM RegistraƟon & Breakfast 9AM – 9:50AM Eyelid Lumps and Bumps/Lonsberry/66810-AS (1 hour) Pa ents present with a variety of lumps and bumps associated with the ocular and periocular ssues. This interac ve presenta on will review the various periocular lesions focusing on differen a ng the benign from the malignant, the various differen als and current treatment management op ons. 9:50AM - 10:10AM Break with Exhibitors 10:10AM - 11:50AM Treatment and Management of Ocular infecƟon Systemic AnƟbioƟcs in Eye Care/ Lonsberry/pending (2 hours) Optometrists are familiar with the use of topical an bio cs in the treatment of ocular condi ons but o en hesitate in the use of systemic an bio cs in treatment protocols. U lizing the latest in interac ve technology, this course will review the major groups of an bio cs, their modes of ac on and their systemic indica ons in infec on management. Special emphasis will be placed on the current use of systemic an bio cs in the treatment of ocular disease condi ons. 11:50AM - 1:10PM Lunch/Exhibit Hall 1:10PM ͳ 2:50PM Keratoconus and Its Treatments/Fintelmann/pending (2 hours) The incidence of keratoconus found in studies keeps increasing. I will review the current treatment op ons including crosslinking, Intacs and topography guided abla on in addi on to my experience with the treatment modali es.
3:00PM ͳ 4:50PM GP MulƟfocal Fiƫng and Problem-solving/BenneƩ/pending/ (2hours) The importance of fi ng GP mul focals today as well as pa ent selec on and pre-fi ng evalua on is discussed. An emphasis on corneal GP mul focal lens design, fi ng, and problem-solving – including aspheric and segmented, transla ng designs – is provided. In addi on, the applica ons and fi ng of hybrid, scleral, and post-refrac ve surgery mul focal designs. 5:00PM ͳ 6:00PM AZOA Cocktail RecepƟon in Lobby Bar Come have a cocktail on the AZOA and mingle with your colleagues! Sunday, January 10 7AM RegistraƟon & Breakfast 8:00AM ͳ 9:40AM GP Specialty Case Grand Rounds/BenneƩ/pending/(2 hours) Case studies pertaining to spherical, ortho-K, bitoric, mul focal, scleral, and keratoconus GP lens designs are presented. Specifically, informa on pertaining to case history, design, fi ng, and problem-solving of each case is given. Clinical pearls for each category are presented as well. 10:00AM ͳ 10:50AM Cool Cornea and Contact Lens Cases/Davis Farhat/pending/(1 hour) This grand rounds course reviews unique anterior segment disease cases and contact lens fi ngs. 2021 Bronstein Seminar Faculty Dr. Ed BenneƩ is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry. Dr. BenneƩ is currently President and ExecuƟve Director of the Gas Permeable (GP) Lens InsƟtute, the educaƟonal division of the Contact Lens Manufacturers AssociaƟon (CLMA) and is the Clinical Features Editor for Contact Lens Spectrum. He is a past Chair of the Contact Lens and Cornea SecƟon Council of the American Optometric AssociaƟon(AOA) and is a Diplomate and a past Chair of the Cornea, Contact Lenses and RefracƟve Technologies SecƟon of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a past Chair of the AssociaƟon of Optometric Contact Lens Educators and past President of the MD-OD Contact Lens FoundaƟon of St. Louis. He is also a Fellow in the Scleral Lens EducaƟon Society and a DisƟnguished Fellow in the NaƟonal Academies of PracƟce. Dr. Sydni Davis Farhat, a Missouri naƟve, is a graduate of the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL), where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. AddiƟonally, she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from UMSL’s College of Optometry, graduaƟng with honors. Dr. Davis’ clinical interests include standard and specialty contact lenses and ocular disease. She is working on compleƟng her postdoctoral residency in cornea and contact lenses at the Midwestern University Eye InsƟtute in Glendale, Arizona. Robert Fintelmann, MD, FACS is a cornea, cataract and refracƟve surgeon pracƟcing at the Eye InsƟtute at Midwestern University. He is an associate professor at AZCOPT. He received his medical degree at the University of Ulm, Germany. He completed a residency at Wills Eye and a fellowship in corneal and refracƟve surgery at the Proctor InsƟtute at UCSF. His clinical interests are focused on refracƟve cataract surgery and managing its complicaƟons, keratoconus and corneal ectasia, Corneal dystrophies, corneal transplants and ocular surface disease. Dr. Blair Lonsberry grew up in Rossburn, Manitoba (Canada). He obtained his Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1996 aŌer compleƟng a Master of Science in Physiology from the University of Manitoba. He completed his residency in Primary Care Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1997, then joined the faculty at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. During his Ɵme at SCO, he completed a Masters in EducaƟon degree with an emphasis in adult learning. Currently, Dr. Lonsberry is a Full Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon.
