COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Book Club Alexis Mackay Mondays Library One of Alexis' favorite pastimes is sitting down with a hot cup of coffee and a great book. Join her each Monday as she continues to read "Becoming" by Michelle Obama. Our next book will be "Little Women". ASL Every Other Friday (American Sign Russel Fowler Theater Jan-March 2:00 PM Language) Starting January 10th, join Russel every other Friday as he will be teaching us the basics of sign language. Throughout these classes we will learn how to sign the alphabet, numbers, family names, greetings, signs for food, and holidays. The last Thursday Jan- Yoga Amy Hanes Apr Dining Room 10:15 AM Amy has taught yoga and pilates and also received a certificate to specialize in the Silver Sneakers program and personal training for seniors. Join her as she teaches us yoga. Thursday, January 9th Life in the NICU Rob Gardener Theater 2:30 PM Rob has two beautiful twin girls that are 5 years old, but the journey to get here took some time. Come learn about the NICU and what it was like for Rob and his wife to have micro-premature twins. Saturday, January 11th Rosette Cookies Renate Ferguson Dining Room 2:00 PM Renate enjoys baking and making sweet treats. She will be making rosette cookies. They are a thin deep fried pastry of Sweden and Norway. They come in all beautiful shapes and are delicious! Tuesday, February 4th Loteria Leslie Rosas Dining Room 2:00 PM Leslie is going to teach us how to play a bingo like game called Loteria. Wednesday, February A Trip with Seth Seth Hample Theater 12th 2:00 PM Come join Seth as he shares pictures and stories from a recent trip to the Caribbean and enjoy pina coladas with us!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Thursday, March 12th Spoon Theory Kelsey Fisher Dining Room 2:00 PM The Spoon Theory was developed by Christine Miserandio, who runs ButYouDontLookSick.com Their mission is to help everyone with a chronic illness or invisible disability, in order for them to live their lives to the fullest and not feel isolated and alone. Wednesday, March 18th Fruit Carving Jason Cudney Dining Room 2:00 PM Join Jason as he shows us the art of fruit carving. Tuesday, April 7th Craft Class Natalie Selin Dining Room 2:00 PM Natalie will be showing us how to make a cute Easter craft!
Faculty Biographies NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Robert Gardener Rob's Corner Robert Gardner was born and raised in Salt Lake. He went to East High School, then received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah. Rob was a fishing guide in Alaska for several years, and is happy to tell fish stories most of which are true. Rob went back to school and earned his Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. Rob has worked in the industry for 8 years. He loves to help in any department, loves to joke around and tries to make work fun. Rob has run 6 other Assisted Living Communities prior to Summit and is excited to settle down here and plans on staying here long term. When Rob is not working he spends as much time as possible with his wife Aubree, and their twin 4 year old daughters Addie and Emma. He looks forward to the time when the girls can join him fly-fishing on a river. Amy Heyes Yoga Amy grew up in Millcreek, Utah and graduated from Olympus High School. After high school she went on a semester abroad to BYU-Israel. She later attended Westminster college, receiving a degree in Sociology. After college she found she had a love for fitness and personal training. Amy was the Director of Fitness at the Sports Mall and then moved to Park City to teach yoga and Pilates to the US Nordic Combined Ski team. She also received a certificate to specialize in the Silver Sneakers program and personal training for seniors. This is where she gained her love and affection for the senior population. Amy began her senior living career in 2015 and knew that she had found the best job in the world! When Amy is not working she loves to spend time with her fiancé Dave and their 6 children ranging in age from 3-28. Amy also loves to spend time hiking, paddle boarding, skiing and road biking . Alexis Mackay Book Club Alexis is the Community Life Director and has worked at Summit as long as it has been open. All together she has six years of working in activities. In her spare time she enjoys reading, being crafty, watching TV, and spending time with her dogs. Russel Fowler ASL (American Sign Language) Russel is a resident at Summit Senior Living. He is deaf and he enjoys teaching this class to help others learn how to communicate with him. Renate Ferguson Rosette Cookies Renate is the Community Life Assistant, and she loves what she does and enjoys spending time with our residents. In her spare time she loves to travel with her husband on their Harley, spend time with her family, and she loves to bake.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Leslie Rosas Loteria Leslie is the Concierge at the front desk. She is a mother of two beautiful little girls. She enjoys online shopping and getting her nails done with her girls. Seth Hample A Trip Through The Caribbean Seth is the Maintenance Director. In his free time he enjoys camping, fishing, making beer, and traveling around Utah with his family. Seth has been working at Summit since the grand opening in 2016. He absolutely loves his job and loves being able to interact with our residents daily. Jason Cudney Fruit Carving Jason was born in California just north of San Francisco. He lived his whole life there up until 2011 when he and his family moved to Utah from the Sonoma Valley. Jason has 3 kids. A daughter 21, son 17, and another son who is 10. Jason enjoys the outdoors, smoking meat, trying new restaurants, and spending time with his family. One of their favorite things to do is cook their favorite dishes from around the world. Jason and his wife try to hit as many restaurants featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diner Drive In and Dives”. So far they have visited all, except 2, in the Salt Lake Area. Jason started his culinary career in the San Francisco bay area in his late teens. He got his experience in San Francisco and the Sonoma Valley wine country. Jason has worked for some of the best chef’s to perfect his trade. His favorite cuisine to cook is French, but he loves cuisines from all over the world including Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Latin American, Spanish, and Chinese. Jason has spent 27 years working in hotels and fine dining. His focus switched to senior living a few years ago and he find it to be more rewarding. Jason enjoys doing the best he can to give the residents what they want and creating friendships. Kelsey Fisher Spoon Theory Kelsey was born and raised in Boise, ID and she has lived in Salt Lake City for the past two years. She was a live in care provided for her grandparents for four years and has worked in several communities as an Activity Directors, Sales Counselor, Sales & Marketing Director. Kelsey loves to take pictures, run, and do the Sudoku puzzles from the newspapers. She enjoys making her own morning chai tea and if you ever need a splash of syrup in your drink find her in her office!
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Natalie Selin Craft Class Natalie Selin is our Business Office Manager. She began working with seniors while in college and has been in the industry ever since. She was born and raised in Utah and is the youngest of three girls. She love Bear Lake, crafting, and being the “cool” aunt to her nieces and nephews.
