Junkets! 200 Blueberry Paradise Hike in Jersey Pinelands Quantity: 10 The Jersey Devil will be far from your mind when you amble on the trail surrounded by highbush blueberries in the fabulous preserved cranberry and blueberry plantation at Franklin Parker Preserve near Chatsworth, NJ. The 6.5 mile trail is mostly level through the woods, and on a few sandy roads. You’ll get your own photo op with the giant ADK chairs, and also on the swingin bridge. This one’s a ‘tennis shoe’ hike, and hardy hiking children are welcome (for free) with their adults. It's a loop-hike, but some may wish to turn back early. Definitely bring a backpack with water & lunch/hearty snacks (we’ll have lunch on the trail) -- and some containers to bring home your berries! We'll stop at the Vincentown Diner on the way home for treats, or possibly supper -- What can be more Jersey than a great Diner? A team of 40 Chinese artists and craftspeople spent a year in China creating the Garden’s components and another six months in Staten Island as craftsmen-in-residence at Snug Harbor to complete the construction. Based on Ming Dynasty gardens (1368-1644 AD), it features magnificent rocks resembling mountains that inspired the poetry and paintings of Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist monks, as well as other scholars. Visitors can explore eight pavilions, a bamboo forest path, waterfalls, a Koi-filled pond, Chinese calligraphy, and a variety of Ghongshi scholar’s rocks including a 15-foot formation that towers over the central courtyard. We will car pool from the UUCP leaving at 8:45 am for the 100 minute trip. Lunch will be Dutch treat at the restaurant Blue. If time allows, we’ll also take a look at some of the 83-acre campus’ other features. Formerly Sailors’ Snug Harbor, a home for retired sailors built in the 1800s, Snug Harbor now houses numerous distinctive botanical gardens and an art collection.
