Fenland SATURDAY 25 APRIL 2020 DEPARTING FROM: Crewe (05.30/23.25) Hartford (05.45/23.10) Warrington Bank Quay (06.00/22.55) Wigan North Western (06.20/22.35) Statesman Leyland (06.45/22.10) Blackburn (07.05/21.50) Burnley Manchester Road (07.20/21.35) Hebden Bridge (07.45/21.10) Brighouse (07.55/21.00) Wakefield Kirkgate (08.35/20.20) All timings shown are approximate and may be subject to change Enjoy a memorable day as we travel over the Pennines and into East Anglia. A voyage of discovery offering views of the wide Fenland horizons interrupted only by an occasional church spire or the distinctive outline of a solitary windmill, which lend a sense of exhilaration to the flat landscapes of the Cambridgeshire fens, as we travel to historic Norwich for a three hour afternoon break. Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic, one complementing the other. It is the only English city in a National Park and like any great city its centre is easy to walk around and has a river at its heart. Being the most complete medieval city in the UK it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene. Also superb independent and High Street shopping, lively restaurants and bars with a heritage that is a delight to explore. It was England's first UNESCO City of Literature. The city’s historic street layout is wonderfully haphazard but there’s no need to get lost, just look for the obvious landmarks, the spire of the majestic Norman Cathedral, the domineering castle on its tall mound and City Hall's clock tower. If it’s sights and attractions you're after, then Norwich doesn't disappoint. The city has the largest permanent undercover market in Europe, many museums, cobbled streets and ancient buildings. Visit St Andrew's Hall, half-timbered houses such as Dragon Hall, the Guildhall and the Art Nouveau delight of the 1899 Royal Arcade, a jumble of medieval lanes and a delightful riverside along the winding Wensum.
