We are delighted to present a three-day weekend break to the stunningly beautiful Lake District, famous for its tranquil lakes, towering
mountains, secret valleys, picturesque stone-built villages and expansive coastline. The national park is the largest in the UK and now a
UNESCO world heritage site, so it’s easy to see how the area captivated such famous former residents as William Wordsworth and Beatrix
Potter. Accommodation for two nights is in selected 3 or 4 star hotels.

Friday Our train travels north over the entire majestic route of the famous Settle to Carlisle railway, with great limestone peaks and deep
valleys. We travel through the Yorkshire Dales over viaducts and through tunnels on this masterpiece of Victorian engineering, including the
famous Ribblehead Viaduct. Continuing through the Eden Valley to the outskirts of Carlisle we travel through Penrith and over Shap
Summit offering spectacular views of the Lakeland mountains and Cumbrian fells. At Oxenholme we alight to join road coaches for the
short transfer to our hotels.

Saturday Following a relaxing breakfast in the hotel there is a choice of two tours which should be pre-booked as seating is limited:

Option 1 A memorable cruise on board one of the historic Windermere steamers as we travel over England’s largest lake to Bowness, the
Lake District’s most popular tourist destination where we have a short break. Then, road coaches take us through Ambleside to Grasmere,
the most photographed village in Cumbria, where time will be available to visit its attractions, including the Gingerbread Shop and Dove
Cottage the former home of William Wordsworth who described the area as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”. Returning around
the west side of Windermere through the ancient town of Hawkshead with stunning views of the highest Lakeland mountains.

Option 2 Road coaches take us to the ancient hamlet of Ravenglass, being the only coastal town within the National Park, to board the
iconic ‘Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway’. This delightful narrow-gauge line offers a 14-mile return journey through spectacular Lake District
scenery to Eskdale, situated at the foot of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Most of the trains are hauled by one of the little steam
engines dating back to 1894. At the line’s terminus there is an excellent cafe and the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Fells
with riverside walks. On arrival back at Ravenglass we visit the grounds of ‘Muncaster Castle’ with its gardens and woodlands offering
panoramic views. A highlight of the visit is the Hawk and Owl Centre with a magnificent falconry display as they soar over the valley.

Sunday Our train departs Grange over Sands late morning and we travel around the longest and most scenic coastal railway in England.
The beautiful twisting Cumbrian coast route it hugs the coastline and takes us beside Morecambe Bay and across the Furness peninsula
where the views of the Irish Sea and Lakeland Mountains are truly spectacular, and on a clear day the Isle of Man is visible. Continuing
through Whitehaven, with views of the Solway Firth, we travel inland to join the Settle to Carlisle line for our homeward journey over its
spectacular viaducts and around the deep valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.

Pullman Class Accommodation is in either the 3 star ‘Cumbria Grand Hotel’ built in 1880 and set in 20 acres of private gardens above
Grange over Sands overlooking Morecambe Bay, or the 4 star (superior) ‘Lakeside Hotel’ situated on the shores of Lake Windermere in twin
or double rooms only. Breakfast (Sat & Sun) and dinner (Fri & Sat) is included, with other meals taken on the train. Seating on our train is in

Enjoy an exciting day trip to the dynamic and vibrant waterfront city of Portsmouth. From
the pomp and ceremony of our proud naval and maritime heritage to towering world-class
visitor attractions, museums and miles of beautiful waterfront, Portsmouth offers
something for absolutely everyone. Ideally situated on the south coast Portsmouth is ideal
for a day by the sea as there are lots of things to do during the three hour afternoon break.

visitors can see her in all her glory. Also, board the world’s most famous warship HMS
Victory and try the new audio guide as the drama of the battle of Trafalgar unfolds. Visit the
Victorian powerhouse HMS Warrior and the unique Gallipoli Campaign survivor - HMS M.33.

We present a scenic tour to the spectacular North East with its landscape of iconic landmarks and beautiful
dramatic coastline. We travel through the Vale of York with views of the Yorkshire Moors, through Newcastle
crossing the famous bridges and along the sweeping Northumberland coastal route. This tour offers a choice
of leisure time in either picturesque Alnmouth or the historic border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed with an
optional off train tour to the magnificent Alnwick Castle.

Our first destination is the picturesque fishing village of Alnmouth which is situated on a sheltered estuary and
was founded in 1150 to become established as a shipbuilding centre. Today Alnmouth remains a beautiful and
interesting village worthy of exploration with panoramic views and a variety of restaurants, pubs and coffee
shops for the discerning visitor. Please be aware that the village is a walk of one mile from the station.

Perhaps remain on the train and continue to the dramatic walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed with its huge
Elizabethan fortress overlooking the river, built to keep out the invading Scots. There is a wide estuary with
views to Lindisfarne and this beautiful unspoiled town is truly worthy of exploration with a walk around the
battlements or a visit to the historic quay.

Alnwick Castle & Gardens At Alnmouth road coaches will transport you on the short journey to the
foreboding Alnwick Castle which has been the seat of the Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. Admission
includes both the castle and its wonderful gardens, fascinating museums, a restaurant and the stunning state
rooms containing fine furniture and paintings. More recently the castle has found fame as the location of

The celebrated ‘Statesman’ luxury train travels south for a memorable mid-summer journey through
the Severn Tunnel and historic Bath Spa and beside the River Avon to Salisbury and Southampton.
Onward through the beautiful New Forest to our first optional stop at Bournemouth where around
four hours will be available to enjoy the elegant seaside resort with its seven miles of golden sands,
vast variety of shops and beautiful award-winning gardens where you can perhaps enjoy a traditional
afternoon tea whilst listening to a brass band.

Alternatively: remain on board to Poole where we offer a break of around three hours. Poole has a
bustling Quay and stunning natural harbour with beautiful views across to the Isle of Purbeck.
Perhaps take a boat trip to Brownsea Island, rich in wildlife and history this is the home of Scouting, or
take a Jurassic coastal cruise. There are a multitude of eateries along the harbour with outdoor seating
where the local seafood is a speciality.

Our final destination for a break of around two hours is the ancient seaside town of Weymouth, set in
Thomas Hardy’s beloved countryside that featured as the background to his Wessex novels.
Weymouth was a favourite haunt of King George III with its historical buildings and Georgian seafront.
A modern town centre is complemented by quaint side streets, all of which are connected by over
three miles of level promenade. The picturesque leisure harbour boasts fishing boats, yachts and
catamarans.

Join us for a wonderful day out with a journey along the Vale of the White Horse passing through pretty
Somerset with its apple orchards and around the beautiful Devon coast. Time is available to discover the
many charms of the ‘English Riviera’ for an afternoon sightseeing break of around three hours in the seaside
resorts of either Torquay or Paignton. We pass Powderham Castle and travel alongside the stunning Exe
Estuary with its pretty fishing boats and views across to the Jurassic coast. Our train takes the exciting sea
wall line, racing through tunnels and cuttings of red rock, along beaches and coves at Dawlish with the sea
keeping company all the way to Newton Abbot.

There is a choice of two destinations in which to relax before ‘The Statesman’ returns homeward in the late
afternoon.

Torquay One of Britain’s top tourist resorts and a jewel in the English Rivera’s crown made popular by the
Victorians. With sparkling white Villas perched on verdant hilltops overlooking pure sandy beaches and an
azure sea it matches anything you’ll find on the French Riviera. There are beautiful gardens and a palm tree
lined promenade leading to a lively harbour and international marina with an abundance of pavement cafes,
pubs, shops and quality restaurants.

Paignton There are no shortage of things to do with gorgeous long sandy blue flag beaches, paddler
friendly waters, a traditional pier and seafront alive with holiday fun. Alternatively take a steam train ride
(payable locally) along one of the most idyllic stretches of coastline in the country and through the
woodland estate, once owned by Agatha Christie, to the riverside station at Kingswear.

This is a day out not to be missed as we travel through the heart of England to Eastbourne on the sunny
Sussex coast where the biggest annual ‘free’ airshow in Britain is staged on the promenade and seashore.
Aerial displays could include the ‘Red Arrows’, ‘Battle of Britain Memorial flight’, the ‘Falcon freefall parachute
team’ and many, many more international aircraft offering acrobatic and land displays.

Our train takes the North London line to Clapham Junction where we join the Brighton line for a fast run past
Gatwick Airport and towards the lovely Sussex Downs National Park and through the pretty town of Lewes
prior to our arrival in the elegant resort of Eastbourne about lunch time. Around four hours will be available
at your leisure to view the spectacle of ‘Airbourne 2020’.

Held to be one of the sunniest resorts in England, award winning Eastbourne, which nestles at the foot of the
south downs next to the national beauty spot Beachy Head, owes much to the Victorians and the 7th Duke of
Devonshire who laid out many beautiful parks and gardens and built the pier. If the airshow does not appeal
this elegant town has many charms awaiting discovery including an excellent shopping centre and
traditional seaside bandstands. Our train returns in the late afternoon as we retrace our outward journey.

‘The Statesman’ celebrated train heads into North Wales for a journey along the
spectacular coastal route with its sweeping sea views. We climb high into the
Snowdonia National Park and up the stunningly beautiful Conwy Valley. Our
journey passes through a region with haunting beauty and the grandeur of wild
mountains, hidden valleys, cascading rivers, still lakes and deep forests. There is
the option to spending time at either the popular Victorian tourist centre of
Betws-y-Coed or Blaenau Ffestiniog. We also have an optional excursion
available offering a steam hauled journey on the famous Ffestiniog Railway.

Travelling through Chester we pass the Roman Walls and enter Wales, running
alongside the Irish Sea on a coastline famed for its beaches and views. At
Llandudno Junction the train reverses for the spectacular journey up the
beautiful Conwy Valley. A breathtaking range of scenery unfolds, from historic
castles through estuary rich in wildlife to majestic crags with views of tumbling
waterfalls. The high peaks of Snowdonia are on view before our train enters the
imposing slate landscape of Blaenau Ffestiniog and it is here you may join our
optional tour or perhaps visit the Llechwedd Slate Caverns situated just outside
the town.

Mobility This tour is not suitable for guests with wheelchairs as the platforms
at some stations are much shorter than our train and it may be necessary to
walk through several carriages when boarding or alighting. It is not possible to
transfer between our train and the Ffestiniog Railway in a wheelchair.

Ffestiniog Railway Adjacent to the main line station in Blaenau Ffestiniog is the terminus belonging to one
of the Great Little Trains of Wales, the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway, which was built in 1836. Our privately
chartered steam train will be waiting to take you on a return journey to Tan-y-Bwlch as it twists and turns
around the mountainside offering spectacular views.
