DESTINATION INFORMATION SHEET PHILIPPINES January 28 - February 7, 2020 HELPFUL TIPS • Government of Canada Travel Link: Click here for more information on risk levels, safety and security, entry/exit requirements, health, laws and culture, natural disasters, climate, and assistance for this destination. Consult a health care professional or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel. • US Government Travel Link: Click here for US citizen travel information to this destination. • Passports: must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date for this trip. • Visas: For Canadians and U.S. citizens the tourist visa is valid for 30 days (29 nights) and will be issued upon entry at the airport (free of charge). If you stay longer you can apply for a visa in your home country before traveling to the Philippines. • Currency: Please be aware that it is not possible to change money at the resorts. To get some cash in Philippine Pesos we recommend you to change some money directly at the airport (before leaving the building. Diving and resort bills are payable by credit card. • Electricity: In the Philippines the standard voltage is 220 V and the frequency is 60 Hz. You cannot use your electric appliances in the Philippines without a voltage converter, because the standard voltage in the Philippines (220 V) is higher than in Canada or the U.S., (120 V). To be sure, check the label on the appliance. Some appliances never need a converter. If the label states 'INPUT: 100-240V, 50/60 Hz' the appliance can be used in all countries in the world. This is common for chargers of tablets/ laptops, photo cameras, cell phones, toothbrushes, etc. In the Philippines the power sockets are of type A, B and C. • Tipping: Tipping is optional. If you were happy with our services and you would like to show your appreciation your tip should be placed in the centralized box at the reception (for resort staff) and at the dive center (for dive center staff) to be divided equally among them. This ensures that all the staff will be included and not just the most visible personnel. • Rooms: Crystal Blue Resort, Anilao: All rooms feature private baths, hot and cold shower, closets, 2 queen beds with comfortable sheets, and fully air conditioned. The balcony/lobby offers spectacular views of the property, ocean and sunsets. Perfect for people who want to enjoy the tranquility of the place. The Superior room has a floor area of 20 square meters. Crystal Blue Resort has a cellular internet connection and the shared WiFi in the restaurant and lounge area of the resort is complimentary. The signal is, however, a little unreliable and isn’t always running at full-strength, sometimes disconnecting completely. The signal is usually sufficient to check emails before heading out for a day of diving, but it’s rarely strong enough to upload image files. Patience is certainly required. If you require a dedicated signal strong enough to transmit photos and use other apps that consume large amounts of bandwidth, you might want to consider bringing your own cellular router, which will be just slightly better.
