General Recycling Information Have your recycle boxes out the NIGHT BEFORE, 20 kg 45 lbs OR PRIOR TO 6 a.m. on your scheduled recycling collection day. Windy Days: Please stack your Blue Box on top of your Red Box. This will help secure the paper products so they don’t blow out of the box. All new homeowners can pick up their first recycling Red and Blue Box for FREE at our office located at 3540 North Service Road East (corner of Central), between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Replacement or additional boxes can be purchased at Home Hardware Stores. Write your name and address on your recycling boxes.
Waste Disposal Information Acceptable Garbage Containers • garbage You will receive WEEKLY garbage collection. Leaf & Yard Waste Yard Waste Collection • Place Yard Waste out BEFORE 6:00 a.m. ONLY on your scheduled collection day. • 20 Brush and branches should be tied in bundles (no more than 45 lbs/ kg) and no more than 3’ in diameter. Do not use wire to tie bundles. 0.9m (3') Maximum Look for the Paper Yard Waste Bag 7.5cm (3") it indicates Yard Waste Collection Day. 1.2m (4') Grass clippings are NOT collected GRASS from June thru September. • Thorny branches should be placed in boxes, pails or yard waste bags. • Any untied, loose piles of brush will NOT be collected. Acceptable Yard Waste Containers • Place leaves, garden waste, branches, brush, tree & hedge trimmings in acceptable yard waste containers. Roll-out Carts (see page 3) • NOT ACCEPTABLE: Yard Waste will not be collected in Plastic bags. Paper Yard Waste Bags ! left The City of Windsor is NOT responsible for large quantities of brush by commercial tree trimmers working on private property. Acceptable Garbage Cans (see page 3) ! Do not blow leaves onto the roadway. Our street sweeping machines will not collect them. Cardboard Boxes Filled Yard Waste containers must not exceed 20 kg (45 lbs).

Missed Collections Missed collections are upsetting, but there is usually a reason why material was not collected as expected. To ensure your materials are collected, please ensure they are: • Inbags acceptable containers (see page 3). Garbage must be placed in inside hard sided containers. NO loose garbage in pails. • Out by 6:00 a.m. • Not altered. Lids must not be tied to pails. • Within the weight limit of 20 kg (45 lbs). • Not hidden behind a vehicle, snow bank, or other obstruction. • Material is not frozen in pails and /or containers. • Free of prohibited material (e.g. hazardous or construction/renovation waste). Other reasons for missed collections are: • Recyclables not separated properly in Red/Blue Box. • Overflowing containers or bags on top of containers. • Syringes found in garbage pails and recycling boxes. • Garbage/Recyclables/Yard particular day/week. Waste not scheduled for collection that • Damaged containers/carts i.e. missing bar, wheels, handle, non-compliant roll out-cart, lid tied to pail. If an item is not collected for reasons other than the above, please call 311. TIP: Put drainage holes in the bottom of your container to allow liquids to drain out.

Bulk Item Collection Did you know? Dumping any material on public or private property is illegal, makes our community less attractive, and requires costly clean up. To dispose of unwanted furniture and large items: • Consider donating or selling any items in good condition (see pg. 12). • Bring the item to the Public Drop Off Depot (see back cover; fees apply). • Call 311 to schedule a Bulk Item Pick Up • Items must be placed at the curb (not in the alley) by 6am on designated day. • Items must be less than 200 lbs, under 4ft. wide and 8ft. in length. • Restrictions apply; visit www.citywindsor.ca or call 311 for more details. • Fees may apply; program is subject to Council approval.

Recycle Your Pots & Trays! Collect your plastic plant pots and trays, and drop them off at the Public Drop Off Depot FREE of charge for recycling. Plastic plant pots and trays are NOT accepted in your recycle box as the plastic can be difficult to process with other materials. Discard your clay pots.

• Did you know that the City's main salt routes are maintained by 21 vehicles covering 1067 lane kilometers of road at a cost of approximately $12,000/hour • Snow Removal in The City of Windsor is governed by policies set out by City Council • Expressway, Arterial and Collector roads are cleared first • Residential streets are only cleared if the snowfall exceeds 10cm (4in.). • Be patient. In heavy snowfalls it takes us longer to get all our streets cleared. • Stay alert, slow down, and stay in control when driving your vehicle. • Keep parked cars off streets wherever possible. • Shovel your sidewalk. City By-law 8544 requires all residents to clear the snow from sidewalks abutting their property. • Keep fire hydrants clear and visible. • Throw snow on your lawn, not on the street. Shoveling snow back onto the street creates unsafe road conditions for motorists and is prohibited by the Highway Traffic Act.
