COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MUNNAR [Established by the Center for Continuing Education (CCEK), Government of Kerala] PROSPECTUS P.G. (M.Tech.) DEGREE COURSE IN ENGINEERING 2020-2021 Introduction College of Engineering Munnar is an Institute of higher learning established by Government of Kerala and is managed by the Center for Continuing Education Kerala ( CCEK ). The Institution started in the year 2000 was affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology and is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Kerala from 2015 admission onwards. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The Chairman of the Governing Body of the institution is the Hon’ble Minister for Education, Government of Kerala and the Vice-Chairman is the Principal Secretary (Higher Education) Government of Kerala. Since its inception, CEM has been priding itself on creating professional opportunities for its students and equipping them to become highly successful on their chosen field. Located in one of the most livable cities in the world, and associated with one of the finest universities in the region, the campus attracts students from all over the country. It is established in 26 acres of land in the Kannan Devan hills, just one kilometer of Munnar town I. General Post Graduate Degree Courses in Engineering are being offered to the graduates in Engineering, in this College for awarding Masters Degree in the two branches by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The course shall extent over a period of 24 months consisting of 4 semesters. II. Reservation of seats (for admission through DTE) i. 5% Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to SEBC. Only candidates belonging to SEBC communities having annual income less than Rs 4.5 lakhs will be eligible for reservation under this category. ii. 15% Seats are reserved for SC/ST Candidates. iii. The seats reserved for each category will be distributed among the eligible communities by observing the pattern of general reservation rules of the state. iv. 3% seats are reserved for physically handicapped candidates. V. Eligibility for admission a. The candidates shall be an Indian National. b. The candidates should have studied the Graduate course in an institution approved by the AICTE/Deemed Universities. c. Candidates should have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the Engineering Degree examination. For SC/ST candidates a pass in the Engineering Degree Examination is sufficient. d. Candidates, who have passed AMIE / AMIETE Examinations and satisfying the following conditions, are eligible for admission. i. They must have valid GATE score. ii. A minimum of 55% marks for section B in AMIE/AMIETE examination. iii. Minimum three years of Professional experience in the field of Specialization after acquiring the qualifying degree.
e. Candidates who have appeared for the final semester examination can also apply, provided he/she has passed all the subjects up to and including the 6th semester exam. Selection of such candidates shall be subject to the production of qualifying degree - satisfying clauses V (a) to (d) as applicable on or before …………, 2020. f. Admission shall normally be restricted to those with valid GATE score. However, this stipulation is relaxed in the case of Sponsored candidates. g. In case seats remain vacant due to lack of candidates with valid GATE score, candidates from Kerala State without valid GATE score will be considered against such vacancies. If seats are still remaining vacant, candidates from other states will be considered for admission. h. Sponsored seats are available for eligible candidates from Educational / Research Institutions approved by AICTE/ UGC/ Govt. /Universities or Industry. i. For Sponsored candidates, minimum of 2 years experience is required after acquiring the qualifying degree in a job where the minimum eligibility is the qualifying degree. j. Applicants should in general satisfy the eligibility conditions as prescribed by APJAKTU/DTE in the prospectus for admission to PG degree course in Engineering for the year 2020-21, published by Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala. VI. Submission of Applications Applications should be filled online for Category A of seats; logging on to the College website www.cemunnar.ac.in . The different entries in the application are to be filled with extreme care, as this information is used for preparing the rank list. Category A: A printout of the filled up application for the purpose should be taken by applicants seeking admission directly by the College and sent with copies of the following documents, to The Principal, College of Engineering Munnar, P.B.No.45, County Hills, Munnar- 685612 along with following documents. a) Engineering Degree certificate and Mark lists up to 8th semester OR b) Course completion certificate and Mark lists up to 6th semester c) GATE Score card (for Candidates with valid GATE Score) d) Community and Income certificate issued by the village officer for candidates who claim admission under SEBC quota. e) Community certificate issued by the Tahsildar for candidates who claim eligibility for relaxation/ reservation under SC/ST quota. f) True copy of professional experience certificate from the Head of the organizations where the candidate is working in case of those who passed AMIE/AMIETE. g) Nativity Certificate issued by the Village Officer (for Non - GATE candidates). h) Sponsorship Certificate (if applicable).
VII. Selection of Candidates (Category A) a. Allotment list will be prepared and published in the College, as well as in the website, www.cemunnar.ac.in. Selected candidates will be intimated through phone also from the college office. b. Selected candidates have to remit the fee in the College on or before the last date; published in the College/ website. c. Transfer Certificate issued from the institutions last attended must be produced at the time of admission. d. The selection of Candidates will be provisional and subject to verification of original documents by the Principal at the time of admission. VIII. Liquidated Damages As per G.O(Rt)No.77/2019/H.Edn, dated 18.01.2019 the liquidated damages are fully exempted and stated that the clause of chapter 7.13 of AICTE approval process Hand Book 2019-20 stated as follows. • In the event of a student withdrawing before the start of the course, the entire fee collected from the student, after a deduction of the processing fee of not more than Rs.1000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) and proportionate deductions of monthly fees and hostel rent, where applicable. • In case, if a student leaves after joining the course and if the vacated seat is Consequently filled by another student by the last date of admission, the Institution must refund the fee collected after a deductions of processing fee not more than Rs.1000/-(Rupees One Thousand only) and proportionate deductions of monthly fees and hostel rent, where applicable. • In case the vacated seat is not filled, the Institution should refund the security deposit and return the original documents. • The Institution should not demand fee for the subsequent years from the students cancelling their admission at any point of time. Fee refund along with the return of certificates should be completed within 7 days
X. Spot Admission A spot admission will be conducted for the vacant seats if any in the courses on a date fixed later. Candidates selected for admission through spot admission will have to remit the fee on the date of spot admission itself and join the College. XI. Scholarship Scholarship is available for candidates with valid GATE Score as per AICTE norms for the total period of 24 months subject to the following conditions. a) The student shall give an undertaking to the effect that he/she will not leave the course midway or appear for any Competitive examination not related to Engineering and Technology. a) The students shall not receive any emoluments, salary, stipend etc. from any other source during the course of study. b) The Students eligible to receive GATE Scholarship should have valid bank account which is linked with their Aadhar card number c) SC/ST students will be eligible for stipend as per Kerala State Government Rules. Any other details not specifically covered by the clause given will be decided by the Principal, College of Engineering Munnar with the information from Director of Technical Education and his/her decision will be final and also empowered to cancel any admission found to be illegal subsequent to the admission.
