PRESIDENT’S REPORT It is with pride and pleasure that I present my 11th report as President of this wonderful club. This year we fielded 57 teams, comprising around 800 players and over 100 officials, again by far the largest club in the Bankstown district. We had 24 SSG Teams in Grades 6 to 11; 16 teams in the Junior Grades 12 to 18; and 17 Senior teams. While overall numbers were slightly down on last year, the number of teams reduced by 9 mainly due to concentrating on having full squads. This greatly reduced the number of issues during the season with teams playing short or having to forfeit. Player numbers were not helped by the problems with the registration system at the start of the year, which affected all clubs around Australia. We are advised that these issues have been fixed and improvements made to the software, fingers crossed for a smoother start to next season. Of our 33 competitive sides 21made the semis, of those 4 were successful in winning their competitions and 5 were runners up. Again the fact that we have more than one team in so many divisions limits the number of competitions we can actually win, so overall a good result. More importantly, we had minimal disciplinary and conflict issues which is a credit to all involved with the club. Our Joeys program was run by Mike Millen this year who recruited some excellent helpers to help look after the next generation of Panania soccer, the future certainly looks bright. Your committee held its third dedicated planning session last December where we commenced development of a manual covering all aspects of operations, in order that future Committees have written precedents to assist in the continued successful operation of the club. We will do more work on this in our next session. The club worked closely with BDAFA during the season and we proposed a range of changes to the regulations at the end of the season. Draft changes to the regulations have been issued by BDAFA which incorporate many of our suggestions, in particular having clearly defined dates for the structure of the season and allowing regrading of senior teams. We will advise the final changes when they are through. After the dramas with the state of our fields last year we were very fortunate to have Council oversow the fields at Easter which had a dramatic, positive effect for the rest of the season. However the grounds still need to be dug up and relayed with new drainage, this should have commenced by now and we are very hopeful of having our new fields ready for the start of training next season. We held our annual Sportsmen’s Lunch during the year, again at Panania Diggers, which was our best attended and most successful of the 6 years it has been running. Our Kids’ Disco and Trivia Night were also well attended, special thanks to Julie Parsons for her part in organising all our functions. Our AGM was held in September, combined with the Coaches & Managers Thank You Drinks, I’m pleased to say I was re-elected President so will serve my 12th year in 2020. Our Treasurer Karoline Shears, who has done an outstanding job for the club and not just in relation to our finances, has decided to stand down, thank you Karoline for all you’ve done. To the committee as a whole, who continue to work together to ensure the club operates effectively, my sincere thanks and appreciation for all your efforts. In addition to our committee there are innumerable players, officials, family members and friends of the club who put their hand up to help whenever asked, and often without being asked. Thank you to all those who have contributed over the year. To everyone who was a part of our club this year, I sincerely hope you enjoyed the season and will be back with us next year. If not, let me know why, we’re always looking to improve. That’s it for this year, see you next season. Bob Bell President 6

6 Blue Coach: Michael Blackmore Manager: Alison Hester Players’ Player: Noah Blackmore Report Wow, where did season 2019 Go!! This year we welcomed two new players to our team Sienna and Noah, they quickly fitted in and were great team players. It was a 2nd year of 6 Blue for Jackson, Jack, Neil and Abbey. We started the season a little slow with a wobbly 1st match but from that point forward we progressed each week as individuals and as a team. The team trained each week and tried very hard to put all the new skills into practice on game day. We had some exciting individual goals and some great team goals. We were unlucky and missed a few games through other team forfeits and lack of their numbers. We played fair, had fun and always celebrated the end of each match with our water/cheer girl Zali handing out lollipops for our team and our opponents. This was a key feature of every match!! We had a successful season, creating some special memories and friendships. The Team Name Commentary 1 Abbey Sullivan It was Abbey’s 2nd year of soccer. She always had a huge smile on her face and would always try her best. She formed the dancing duo with Sienna on the field. Great season Abbey. 2 Jack Williams Jack in his 2nd year of soccer was super charged. Always trying his best and scored some good goals and pocketed some extra cash for his efforts from his poppy. Well Done on a great season. 3 Jackson Our team Dynamite, he was fast, had a massive kick and was a super Blackmore defender right across the park. He scored some great goals and was our top goal scorer. Congratulations Jackson on a great season. 4 Neil Sharkey Our team planner, he showed great leadership and would always come up with great plans and bring his team mates together. Neil was fast and would always chase the loose ball. He also scored some great goads. Thanks for a great season Neil, you’re a real leader. 5 Noah The youngest and littlest in the team with the biggest heart and Blackmore determination. He was our “Pocket Rocket”. Gave 110%, scored some great goals and had so much fun. Unfortunately missed the last few rounds with a broken collar bone. Awesome 1st season of soccer Noah. 6 Sienna Caddoo It was Sienna’s 1st year of soccer, she settled in quickly and each week got more involved. She was always determined to get the ball and scored a great goal during the season. She showed some extra skills when she joined forces with Abbey and danced through the field. Well done on a great 1st season. We had great sideline support each week from our parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles. Thanks for all your support and giving up your Saturday morning to cheer on our team. We would like to thank Greg and Patty for their support at training and on game days, it was greatly appreciated. A further thanks to grandparents Kerrie and John for taking turns on washing our jerseys and making sure they were pristine white each week. We take this opportunity to thank all our players for a great season. It was a pleasure coaching and managing you all in what was an enjoyable 2019. Enjoy the offseason and we look forward to a new season of soccer in 2020. Mick and Alison 13

Dzeparoski 3 Max Vigenser Max one of the younger kids in the team improved every game. 4 Logan Jovevski Logan has plenty of speed and improved every game. 5 Issac Darwich Issaac one of the younger kids in the team has improved immensely 6 Marley Marley has good skills and plenty of determination. As a coach it’s been great to watch these young boys grow as a team and great mates. I look forward to future season and watching the kids improve their skills and continue to have fun! 14
6 Purple Coach: John Klapsis & Robert Scozzafava Manager: John Klapsis & Robert Scozzafava Players’ Player: Lillian Catling Season Summary: Games Won Lost Draw Goals Goals For Against 16 4 7 5 13 24 The highlights of the season were: • It was the kids first year of outdoor soccer for most in the team, so they loved training and playing the big game on the weekend. • All the kids got along great and more than being teammates, became friends as well. • Winning their first game against a fellow Panania Diggers team was celebrated by all. The Team Name Commentary 1 Lillian Catling Lillian was fantastic throughout the year with her amazing running, dribbling and scoring many goals. She was a star and the players player of the team. 2 Sophie Erken Sophie was such a sweet girl and gave her all in every game and wasn’t afraid to tackle and kick the ball when it came to her. She had so much fun with the rest of the team. 3 Andrew Klapsis Andrew had such a good season and got better every game. He was a fast and strong runner, with also being a rock of defence many times. He scored some great goals. 4 Liam Pullinger Liam used his height and strength to get amongst the play and made some great kicks. He seemed to have great fun with his teammates. 5 Yianni Roussis Yianni was a great hustler, he wasn’t afraid to slide and get his legs and arms dirty! He was a fantastic competitor and had a great time all year. 6 Eliana Saiegh Eliana was very quick and a skilful dribbler. She was very enthusiastic and had a great time when she played. 7 Harrison Harrison had lots of fun and loved to make his great big kicks. He scored a Scozzafava couple of good goals and had lots of fun with his teammates. 15
6 Red Coach: Dan Moy A massive thank you firstly to the boys who always tried hard, had fun and never gave up. This made coaching them an absolute pleasure and very enjoyable. To the parents – great kids have great parents and I want to thank you for your patience and making it easy for me to coach your little superstars. Thank you to Jeff for his support all the way from Niagara! To the club, thank you once again to Bob and the team of volunteers who make it that much easier to run around as a coach at the club. Congratulations to all the teams who won their respective competitions and best of luck to those competing at Champions of Champions. The Team Name Commentary 1 Jabril Ismail Played up a year, with regard to his actual age and had some shy beginnings but boy, by the end of the year he was full of confidence and there was no stopping him. A pocket-sized superstar in everyone’s eyes. Thank you and well done Jabril. 2 Isaac Mansour Isaac as probably our best listener in the team and hardest worker when it came to practising things he just learnt. Coaches dream! Thank you and well done Isaac. 3 Joshua Le Clair I loved the fact that Josh was always hungry for the ball. Never stopped running and never gave up. Some excellent traits to have at such an early stage. Thank you and well done Josh. 4 Adrian Lescesin “Rocky” was super smooth with a ball at his feet and a dream to watch as he repeatedly ran through and around teams this year. Plenty of goals under his belt and will be destined for even more next year. Thank you and well done Adrian. 5 Bailey Moy Scored goals from halfway and even the sidelines this year. Just loves playing soccer with his mates which is always great to see. Saved a few goals for us also. Thank you and well done Bailey. 6 Oliver “Oli! Oli! Oli! This little guy is tough, smart and a naturally gifted soccer Naidovski player. Heaps of goals scored and just as many saved in defence as he was always chasing the ball and the other team. Thank you and well done Oliver. 7 Billy Petrakis Another player that came along in leaps and bounds after a few games and started to switch on and get really determined especially towards the end of the year where he was unstoppable at times. Thank you and well done Billy. 16
6 Yellow Coach: Alicia Kastrounis Players’ Player: The whole team The Team Anthony Kalinderidis Ava Martin Cooper Kumcevski Hayden Russo Jayce Kastrounis Jonathan Gad Olivia Costin It has been a year of ups and downs with a great group of kids. We had many different players on the field each week from my shadow chasers and airplanes to my eager goal chasers and defenders. No matter which ones showed up each Saturday we always played as a team with enthusiasm, maybe more enthusiasm for the lollies at the end of the game then to the actual playing of the game itself. No matter the score at the end the end of the game, we always left with a smile on our faces and hope for the following week. It was my great privilege to be able to coach these wonderful, bubbly kids in their first year playing as a team. 6/7 Girls Coach: Joe Busuttil Manager: Sandra Whitear Players’ Player: Talia Lippet Season Summary: Games Won Lost Draw Goals Goals For Against 12 6 5 1 36 41 The highlights of the season were: • Wonder Goal by Lily vs Bankstown Strikers – ‘Del Piero’ Strike after beating 2 players • The super effort from our team shown throughout the season, could not be more proud! • Audrey's first goal which then turned into our team's first hat-trick • The positive attitude shown at training & matches – well done Team. • Presenting the Team Unicorn Mermaid Trophy to the ‘Player of the week’ every week and watching all the girls consistently congratulate each other! The Team Name Commentary 1 Audrey Gilberd Her 1st year playing soccer. Our Super Striker, aka Sam Kerr, with three, count them, three hat-tricks over the course of the season! Our leading goal scorer with a lethal right foot that made her opponents duck for cover every time. Showed great energy at training and on match day. Such an enthusiastic player, she would have been happy to play every minute of every half of every game. 17
2 Gabriella Moussa Full of effort and commitment, never one to let the team down and always ready to jump into a game when her teammates needed her. Improved as the season progressed and showed greater confidence every single game. Gabriella turned out to be one of our sneaky strikers who would score when no-one was expecting it, keeping our opponents on their toes. She never hesitated to fight for the ball, showing a great deal of courage, sometimes against players that were bigger than her! 3 Talia Lippet Her 1st year playing soccer. Our quiet achiever who consistently played to her ability and was always willing to try her best at training and on match day. Very enthusiastic and a great team player. Talia grew into our best mid-fielder, developing a great boot and instinctively knowing when to pass the ball to keep the game moving. She was always ready to play and never complained once during the entire season, even when she had to play a whole 20 min half without a break! 4 Faith Moloney Her 1st year playing soccer. As the season progressed so did her skill and defensive abilities. Never a player to back down against tough opposition. Improved as the season progressed. Faith discovered an ability to play all positions on the field, moving effortlessly from striker to mid-fielder to defender as the game demanded. Always ready to step up and play, Faith is without a doubt our most improved player. 5 Lily Whitear Another Super Striker who showed great balance and poise when with the soccer ball. Very fast and reliable in attack and worried the opposition when in the ‘zone’. Lily's ball control significantly improved throughout the season, resulting in an amazing 'Del Piero' strike against Bankstown Strikers where she seamlessly took the ball around not one, but two opposition players to score the goal. 6 Emily Busuttil Tremendous defender who selflessly resorted to playing in defence when required (even without prompting by the coach). No other player would volunteer to do this. Showed great awareness and timing when with the ball. Emily is a fantastic team player who was always ready to play and back up her team mates whenever it was needed. A strong player with lots of energy who rarely needed a break! 7 Bethany Busuttil A keen midfielder who showed courage and spirit on match day. Demonstrated great skill when dribbling the ball and always determined to try her best. If she got a hold of the ball and was on her way to the goal there was no stopping this steam train. Bethany is another player who was able to move between striker and defence without hesitation when it was required of her. A great all round team player. 18
7 Blue Coach: Aurelien Farthouat Manager: Aruna York The Team Benjamin Dzambic Chloe Flannery Connor Millard Guyan York James Mansour Marius Farthouat Veronica Liang Panania Diggers Soccer Club congratulates 7 Blue on their achievements and hopes that the players enjoyed their season. 7 Green Coach: Michelle Bouchard Manager: Michael Smith Players’ Player: The Team Season Summary: Games Won Lost Draw Goals Goals For Against 14 12 1 1 81 37 The highlights of the season were: • We had one particular game, where the team were down 5-0 at half-time. They were feeling a bit defeated but after some half-time oranges they came back to win 9-6! Nine goals in 20 minutes is pretty impressive! • This is the second year the team have been together and it was great to see them start working as a team, passing the ball and understanding that it takes a team to win a game not an individual. The Team Name Commentary 1 William Barbagallo William loves training and loves a game. He’s always there to help out the coach and his team mates. He’s a great soccer player and true team player! 2 Charbel Barakat Charbel is fast on his feet and can work his way out of trouble with his fancy footwork. He can run with the ball and easily find the back of the net! 3 Nikolina Barakat Nikolina may be the only girl in the team but she can hold her own. She gave 100% to every game never shying away from a tackle. It was her first year in the team and playing soccer and we are very proud of her. 4 Cooper Dale Cooper found the back of the net this year scoring some awesome goals at nearly every game. He’s learnt lots of new skills thanks to his new found love in playing FIFA on his Nintendo! 5 Ben Folan Ben had put some serious training in over the off-season. A whole new player this year who ran with the ball and blew us away with some awesome goals. 19
6 Logan McKinley Logan loves his soccer as much as he loves a half-time orange! He gives it everything he’s got on the field each and every week. With his impressive kicking skills, he can get the team out of a tight spot and back in the game. 7 Mitchell Smith Mitch got right in there this year, no more standing back he was in the game. He's the team's super defender and gave us some great goals that even surprised Mitch. 7 Red Coach: Jamie Erken Manager: Rachael Erken Players’ Player: Jayden Margi The highlights of the season were: • The gala day at Neville Reserve where it all came together, and we won every game – a great day out! The Team Name Commentary 1 Jayden Margi Played every minute of every game; a brick wall in defence and scored some great goals – MVP! 2 Bzoyna Vasudeva Gave 100% in every game and was one of the most improved players. Well done on a great season! 3 Jonathan King Superboot who scored some cracking goals and got the ball down the other end of the field when we were in trouble. Great work! 4 Callan Thomas Scored the goal of the season in the last game of the year and always played with a smile on his face. Well done! 5 Blake Eisenhuth A competitor who had some great games. Good ball work and solid in defence. Top work! 6 Mischa Erken Tried hard in every game and was enthusiastic in attack and defence. Well done on a great season! 20
7 Yellow Coach: Nathan Mulholland Manager: Alisha Davenport Players’ Player: Shia Davenport The highlights of the season were: • Everyone getting along – Team effort all season! • James & Daniel’s goals – The cheers from the crowed were heard across the whole field! • Under 7’s gala day - Great day had by all! The Team Name Commentary 1 Cooper Bentley First year playing soccer and the youngest on our team. Always smiling and giving every game his all, improving all season round. Great job Coops! 2 Christopher First year playing with the team, Chris came out on fire and showed Abi-Assaf everyone his sensational ball skills scoring many goals throughout the season. Hope to see you again next year Chris! 3 Kaiden Wihongi First year playing, Kaiden looked as though he was having a great time every game. He wasn’t afraid of tackling and loved to have a run around. Great work buddy! 4 James Another great year for James. James’ confidence on the field has grown Bouranopoulos and he is not afraid to tackle and attack even scoring goals! Well done James! 5 Shia Davenport Shia is a ball of energy every game and is an all-rounder on the field, attacking and defending like a little champion. Sensational season matey! 6 Christian Christian is our star defender, the improvement from last year was evident Karamanlis each and every game. Unfortunately, Christian was only here half the season but definitely made his presence known when he was. Good job Christian! 7 Daniel Wishart Daniel, still hasn’t grown and is the littlest kid on the field. Ran around using all his energy every game giving it his all. Great work Daniel! Coach’s Comments Another great season boys! You all played sensationally and have improved immensely. Great to see some new faces and even better to see you all get along so well and play as a team. You have all been a pleasure to coach and hope to see you all again next season! . 8 Blue Coach: Sue Curtis Manager: Sandra De Jesus Players’ Player: Lauren Brophy Season Summary Season 2019 saw the return of our existing players from 2018, along with some fresh new faces which enabled us to keep our all girls team going. This season started off a little more challenging compared to the last with the change in filed size, along with additional players on the field. However, it didn’t take long before our experience players (Gracie, Emma, Lilly, Lauren, Kiana and Hazel) led from the front and became mentors for our new additions (Olivia, Mackenzy, Zarlie and Willow). Throughout the season, our girls showed grit, determination and a team spirit which was second to none! We played fair, hard, and never gave up - often receiving praise from opposition coaches and parents. The girls would sing our little chant post game regardless of a win loss or draw: 21
“who are, who are, who are we, we’re from Panania come and see, we might be girls but we play real tough, we never give in until the game is up, we play with grit, we play with might, we play with determination, day and night…. GOOOOOO PANANIA!” I’m proud of your efforts girls and look forward to seeing some of you return in 2020! P.S. thank you to the parents who assisted Sandra and I during the year. Whether it be for field duty, supplying oranges/chocs/lollies, carrying and setting up equipment, coffee runs, or just being a supportive person to the team. We appreciate you all! The Team Name Commentary 1 Emma Williamson Emma was never afraid to take on the big players, often performing top grade tackles on the biggest boys on the field. Emma, showed great strength, discipline and respect at all times, on and off the field. 2 Gracie Curtis Gracie’s strength was kicking power and accuracy. Gracie displayed great leadership skills and was missed when she left the team towards the end of the season to pursue an opportunity with Bankstown City Lions. 3 Hazel Curtis Hazel, the smiling assassin! Hazel would often loiter around the goal area waiting for opportunities to come her way. Hazel, the second youngest in the team wasn’t afraid to take on players if she saw an opportunity coming her way. 4 Kiana Naidu Kiana made great improvement this season and often showed the power she could generate when hitting the ball sweetly. Kiana did a great job at holding her position in the midfield. 5 Lauren Brophy Lauren is a player with a soccer head. She understands the game beyond her years and would often correctly position herself without direction. Lauren is a delight to work with and if she pursues her soccer, I can see her going a long way. 6 Lilly Brown Lilly was probably our most consistent work horse, often finding herself playing back, mid and forward throughout every game. Lilly always applies herself on the field and is first to put her hand up to try new positions. 7 Mackenzy Barton Although Mackenzy was one of the new additions to our team, she fitted in well from the start. Mackenzie applied herself every week at both training and during the games and was a pleasure to coach. 8 Olivia Aboulhaf This was Olivia’s first year playing soccer and she was unsure about how she would handle the contact. However, when her boots were strapped on, that fear would dissipate! Olivia was tough, determined and would physically challenge anyone near the ball. Olivia would often play goalkeeper, a position she took a shining to and performed very well at. 9 Willow Hudson Willow likes to enforce the rules, often calling out opposition players who weren’t playing fair. When Willow applied herself, she showed determination and a care for the game. 10 Zarlie Hudson Zarlie may be the youngest in the team, but that did not deter her. Zarlie is a natural defender and would challenge any player who dare to attack her goal. Zarlie would often put her body on the line when challenging the ball. 22
8 Green Coach: Julie Naidovski Manager: Megan Waters Players’ Player: Jacob Ismail Season Summary: Games Won Lost Draw Goals Goals For Against 14 14 0 0 98 23 The highlights of the season were: • The parents…. This year we had some more boys added to the squad which means more parents to join this awesome group. We must have the best luck as the newbies have been a great addition. It felt like they have been with us for years as they just fit in perfect. No dramas on or off the field, everyone was just happy to let the boys play. A credit to you all. • The boys…. these boys are all little superstars with their own style of play. The step up to the next size field seemed to showcase their skills even more. These boys are all only around 8yrs old yet the sportsmanship and companionship they have shown to each other is next level. An example of this; The boys were always happy to pass the ball to Finn when they themselves had an open goal to help him score his first goal, you just can’t teach that. A credit to the parents. • The club…. Again, the club has been ace! The staff are supportive as always and ensure we have what we need. Bob Bell and his team are next level and I can’t see any of our team ever leaving. Thanks Panania Diggers. • The Coach & Manager…..Jules took on the coaching role this year and it was no easy feat. 12 energetic boys, 14 games, new rules and skills to learn. Jules took it in her stride and and the boys listened… most of the time. Thanks Jules for a great season. Megan thankfully put her hand up for manager for another year. The substitutions were always going to be a challenge this season, yet Meg made it as fair as possible, all the boys got a similar amount of time on the pitch and there were no complaints. The parents have agreed to all throw in for a megaphone next year. Thanks Meg. The Team Name Commentary 1 Harley Waters Can barely get a word out of him off the field but when that whistle blows his actions speak louder than words. Harley doesn’t stop, he obviously has a passion for the game and nothing will stop him from getting that ball. Harley’s skills and passing game have improved this year and will only get better with each game. Harley continues to surprise us with his flair and talents. Well done Harley 2 Finn O’Donovan The move up to the bigger field threw its challenges at Finn this year but this would never stop the little super hero giving his best. It’s impressive to see how much effort he puts in even though his body won’t give him the support he needs. Finn just loves to be on the pitch with his team mates. With the continued support of the parents and team mates Finn was able to score his first goal ever and what a moment it was. Finn was also a huge help with saving a few goals. Good on you Finn, everyone is so proud. 3 George Psomas George’s defensive game went up a notch this year, he pulled off some great slide tackles that would usually be seen in an under 13’s game. George’s play it cool attitude gives the impression he has been playing this game for decades. Another great year from the big fella. 4 Jacob Ismail This little speedster is a pleasure to watch. Jacob is such a talented player that the skills of this youngster seem to go unnoticed. He has been a force to reckon with since day one and will continue to grow if the passion remains. Keep up the good work Jacob. 23
5 Marco Naidovski Trying to get past Marco was like climbing a mountain. Easily the best defender in the comp. Marco was positioned as our solo full back for most of the season and it was noticed if he was not there. Marcos skills are improving with every game and he’s a pleasure to watch. Keep it up Marco. 6 Andre Jansen Andre came out of his shell this year and has improved immensely and wasn’t afraid to have a go. Andre really stood out in the middle of the pitch where he was always seeking to be a part of the action at the right time. Andre, as always was rocking that cheeky grin with cheeky moves to match. Well done buddy 7 Nathan Ferrier Nathan is one of our new additions to the squad this year. Although he’s quiet, he always had a smile on his face keen to get on the pitch and face the opposition. Nathan’s game improved immensely throughout the season and it was great to see him fit in so well with his new teammates. Keep it up Nathan. 8 Cole Grinham Cole’s first year with the squad and boy did he make an entrance. Cole really stood out from day one. He was always supporting his team mates making space for himself which is usually something kids don’t learn till their early teens. Cole’s footwork had the opposition dazed and confused, switching direction like a pro. Nice work mate. 9 Jayden Hassan Another excellent addition to the team. Jayden was one of the strongest up front, his presence was always felt in attack down the side of the pitch and with every game he will continue to stand out. Jayden positioned himself perfectly every time a loose ball was around and always there to clean up the scraps. Great season champion. 10 Nathaniel Jones Nathaniel’s first year with the team was a great one. He was always improving and never gave up. Nathaniel was always running, I don’t know how this kid didn’t tire, it was impressive to watch. He also scored a cracker of a goal that came out of nowhere. Keep up the good work champion. 11 Logan Simpson Logan is another new addition to the A team. Logan’s versatility on the field was always noticeable. Whether it be up the front, in the middle or up the back he was always consistent and barely let anyone past. A pleasure to have on the team. Awesome effort Logan 12 Mason Necovski Our last but not least addition is Mason. With the boot of a 16yr old this kid was slotting screamers from 10 metres away. He has a 6th sense for goal position and made it all look so easy. There was no other kid in the comp that could slot goals like Mason. His passing game improved as the season progressed and he will only get better. Nice work Mason. Author: Ross O’Donovan 24
8 Red Coach: Mario Favotto and Paull Walker Manager: Jackie Paul Players’ Player: Jacob Abi-Assaf Season Summary: Games Won Lost Draw 12 9 2 1 The super U/8 Reds had an incredible 2019 season. The merging of two U/7 teams from last year created a dynamic bunch of players who worked hard all season to learn the fundamental skills and rules of soccer. Moving up to a bigger sized field, playing longer halves and a goal keeper meant more endurance and excitement for our team. We had many players with different strengths on the ball and when the team found its 'mojo' on game days, well, there was no stopping them. It was a joy for coaches, parents and grandparents watching and cheering from the sideline at our team's attempts to execute game plans learnt in training. We won many games not forgetting to show respect and sportsmanship when we lost. But the greatest pleasure this season was seeing our less confident players grow and become more skilful and score goals out of the blue. A big thank you to the coaches, the manager, parents and players for being so involved and committed to the game. Our players have benefited immensely from your support and have grown to love the sport. The highlights of the season were: • The merging of 2 teams and how easy and quick the team bonded. • The improved team efforts at crossing the ball to their team mates. • The sportsmanship and respect our players and parents show weekly towards the opposition. Best Players: • Christian for his general goal scoring ability; • Idris for his defensive efforts with never giving up and his ability to also score goals; • Tamika for never backing down from the boys. Most Improved: • Angelo for his outstanding team work The Team: Name Commentary 1 Emily For a second-year running Emily is the coach’s favourite, lol, and has showed Walker great improvement with her left and right foot passing. Goal for next year is to improve with her tackling and chasing down of rivals. (Dad’s little girl) 2 Harley Harley is very light on his feet, almost Billy Elliot like, and a smiling assassin. He Kegg has improved with his kicking strength and passing with his goal for next year to be more physical in defence and chase that ball. 3 Spencer The jack of all trades, great on the field and great in goals. Spencer pulled off the Favotto save of the year as goal keeper with what looked like the splits to ensure a draw in a tightly contested match. Goal for next year, to be strong on the ball and get his head up when dribbling. Oh and stop kicking the balls in the puddles, lol, cheeky. 4 Angelo A little terrier, has great dribbling ability with his right foot at pace, is physical in Karavelas defence but has really developed in his goal assists and team work. No prizes for guessing goal for next year is development of the left foot. Can also score goals from nothing. 5 Thomas Don’t be fooled by his cheeky smiles and quietness, Thomas has a great ability to Gemmell take players on down the line with his right foot dribbling, showing good technique in shielding the ball. Goal for next year is being more physical in defence and kicking strength. 6 Tamika Still my little bulldozer that doesn’t flinch at the prospect of a 50 /50, some of those Paul boys wish they chose to run the other way. Pleasure to coach and her passing with both feet has improved immensely. Goal is to improve kicking strength and take earlier shots at goal 25
7 Christian Quiet but deadly, talk about can strike a ball from distance to score goals. We are Lescesin afraid for the keepers at times when he is travelling towards them. Definite goal for next year is being stronger on the ball by shielding and hit his passes a little bit harder. Just wait till this happens! 8 Idris Will not give up on any chase in defence and will put his body on the line to stop a Khodraga shot. Skills to burn at training and sometimes has the coach bamboozled with his footwork. Playing up in age and killing it. Goal is without doubt to improve his left foot, he will score 10 more goals each season from not running around the ball , your killing me bud LOL 9 Harrison When it clicks for him watch out. During certain drills he shows a natural ability Hawkins and balance. His determination to try and chase down the opposition is second to none. Good trait! Goal is to get more involved in attack and defence tackling and make that ball his. This will come with time. Oh, and kick it as hard as he does at training on game day. 10 Noah Goal!!!! Was a favourite moment of mine this year, Noah was trying so hard and Aube getting himself in so many great positions to score and it finally happened. Smiles galore from supporters and team mates and all his hard work paid off. Definite improvement and goal is to keep improving his body position for kicking with both feet. 11 Jacob Wow! Jacob does not say much, but talk about coach’s pleaser. The challenge for Abi-Assaf the team was to improve left foot kicking, Jacob we could see was totally making that effort and results were obvious. Jacob provided a few left foot shots and his dominance at the back end of season in attack and defence was brilliant. Goal is to be stronger on the ball and don’t let the other opposition players take it. Continue with left foot training!!!!!!!! It gets easier with practise. 26

6 Michael Whitear Michael started the season with a bang and continued to chip away up front of goals bagging 8 goals this year getting himself into good goal scoring opportunities – he scored a double against Padstow including a first touch screamer – some calmness on the ball can see Michael post more goals in 2020. 7 Gemma Howard Gemma was also new to the team and had an immediate impact – she is fearless on the ball giving it to the opposition on plenty of occasions – always with a smile on her face and listening Gemma settled into the team easily – she bagged 2 goals for the team which was deserved given her never say die attitude – well done Gemma – hope to see you back in 2020. 8 Ava Gaughan Ava has been one of our most consistent players since the U6’s and this year was the same – tough tackling, hard running and a desire to win. She copped a knock on a freezing Winter’s morning but Ava shrugged it off and was back out there 2 minutes later. Ava scored 4 goals this year and just missed about 10, so with the wider goals next year will see Ava score plenty – well done Ava. 9 Curtis Marsh Curtis had a solid year, he has developed good passing technique and vision that set up some good goals. He always tries his hardest for the team and often stayed back to cover in defence. Curtis netted 8 goals this year and the shot against Panania Blue in the Gala day was his best for the year. Another good year Curtis – well done. 10 Jeremiah Smith The Bullfrog had a tremendous year, he never complains and gives it 100%. His running, passing and involvement this season was excellent and we really enjoyed seeing how far he has come over the past 6 months. Jeremiah grew in confidence at training and in the games – cracking year Jeremiah. 11 Zoe Chamakos Zoe was our rock at the back again this year, she would deflate each attacking raid often by herself as the team had pushed forward. Zoe seems to enjoy the sweeper role and Marty and I couldn’t be happier with the season Zoe had.
