Please see the back cover of this brochure for a list of free activities and events. WORKING PARENTS: The Bartek Recreation Center will once again be available for working parents requiring full day supervision for their children this summer. This low cost program is full of fun activities including arts & crafts, various indoor sports, swim lessons, daily open swim, computer lab, weekly field trips and more. A child / staff ratio of 11:1 will be maintained. See page 5 for complete details. 2019 SPECIAL EVENTS The Attleboro Recreation Department is excited to offer special events that will allow youngsters, adults and families to participate in some great summer fun for free or at very reasonable prices. For events requiring pre-registration, please fill out the registration form on page 4 or follow the instructions listed below. For more information, visit our homepage at www.cityofattleboro.us/218/recreation-department. YOUTH GOLF DAY (Saturday, May 4th): Open to children aged 6-16 and will be held at The Links at Mass Golf on Route 123 in Norton. Participants will enjoy a golf clinic sponsored by the Attleboro Area Golf Association. After the clinic, everyone will play three holes of golf, followed by a cookout. Sign-in starts at 8:00am. The golf clinic begins at 8:30am followed by tee times at 9:30am. Parents and family members are welcome to attend and participate in all of the day’s activities including caddying. If you don’t have clubs, we will have some available. See page 9 for a registration form and more information. This is a free event. BOSTON RED SOX GAMES: Enjoy a ballgame at Fenway Park. Transportation is not provided. Due to anticipated demand, there is a limit of 5 tickets per household per game on a first come first served basis. Excellent bleacher seats. Check the city’s website www.cityofattleboro.us for more information as we approach the 4th of July. No registration required. This is a free event. KIDZ 4th FUN (Thursday, July 4th): You won’t want to miss this patriotic, family oriented morning of games, music, fun and food at the Poncin-Hewitt Recreation Complex from 9:00am – 11:30am. Our annual Bicycle Parade is always a big hit as children peddle around the complex on their decorated bicycles. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the peanut-on-a-spoon race, potato sack race, three-legged race and much more. Bring your bathing suit as sprinklers will be on, weather permitting. No registration required. This is a free event. Rain date Saturday, July 6th. FAMILY SWIM & MOVIE NIGHT (Friday, July 12th): Bring the kids to the George I. Spatcher Memorial Pool at Hayward Field for Family Swim from 6:15 – dusk. Once darkness hits, join us for the outdoor showing of the movie A Bug’s Life on the big screen. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a fun family night. This event is open to Attleboro residents only and is a free event. No pre-registration required. FENWAY PARK TOUR & PRUDENTIAL OBSERVATORY (Thursday, July 18th ): Join us on the train to Back Bay, then the subway to Kenmore Square as we visit baseballs’ most beloved ballpark. After the tour of Fenway, it is back to Prudential Center (a good bit of walking involved) for lunch, followed by an elevator ride to the 50th floor where a beautiful panoramic view of our capital city awaits. Cost is $40.00, which does not include lunch. Leave from Bartek Center at 8:15am (8:44am train) and return at approximately 4:25pm. Lots of walking. BOSTON DUCK TOUR, FANEUIL HALL and STATE HOUSE VISIT (Thursday, August 8th): Join our group as we see historical Boston via the Boston Duck Tour. Our “Duck” will drop us off at Faneuil Hall where we will enjoy lunch before heading to the State House for a tour and visit with State Representatives Jim Hawkins and Betty Poirier. The cost of $40.00 per person includes the train and duck tour, but does not include lunch. Leave from the Bartek Recreation Center at 8:15am (8:44am train) and return at approximately 4:25pm. ALL DAY PROGRAM Program # ADP19 $ 140.00 / WEEK ATTENTION WORKING PARENTS: SPACE LIMITED FOR 2019 The All Day Program operates out of the Bartek Recreation Center at 81 Pine Street. This program is open to children entering 1st grade through age 13. A staff ratio of one supervisor to every 11 children will be maintained. Hours of operation are 7:30am until 5:15pm, Monday through Friday. This eight week program will start on Monday, June 24th and run through Friday, August 16th. Attleboro residents are given first preference. Children participating in this program will enjoy an array of fun activities including arts & crafts, various indoor sports and exercise, swim lessons, daily open swim, computer lab and more. Weekly field trips generally include a Paw-sox game, Capron Park Zoo, Bowling, N.A. Kids Day, a trip to the Movies and more. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided. Children are required to bring a lunch, bathing suit, towel, sneakers and sunscreen. It is required that your child(ren) register for a minimum of six weeks and a minimum of three days per week. This policy will be strictly enforced as it allows us to maintain proper staff to child ratio. In order to hold a spot for your child, a deposit equal to your last week’s payment is due at registration. This deposit will be credited to the last week’s tuition. If your check has been cashed, your child is enrolled. Proof of immunization is required for enrollment. Children will love our annual BIKE PARADE (to take place at approximately 10:15) as they celebrate our nation’s independence by parading around the Poncin-Hewitt Complex on their decorated bicycles. Age appropriate races for children age 13 and under will include: baby-crawl race, three-legged race, wheel-barrel race, peanut-on-a- spoon race, potato-sack race, Sponge Bob race, watermelon roll and more. The races for younger children go off first – so be there early. Parents should come ready to participate as we offer adult versions of most games which are often the highlight of the kids’ day. In addition to Nate Adams donating his DJ services, the generosity of local residents, merchants and organizations allows us to provide complimentary hot dogs, chips and beverages for everyone. Participants will create two short video projects and learn all the processes that go into the creation. These processes include writing, storyboarding, directing, camera operation, editing and lighting just to name a few. Youth Center The Attleboro Youth Center provides a positive and enriching after school alternative for Attleboro youth ages 8-17, who are enrolled in school full time. This aftershcool program provides a range of activities for the youth under the supervision of Youth Advocates. The Center is open October through April. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 2:30pm-5:00pm. We are also open on Friday evenings from December 6th until the end of March. Open Gym Open Gym is available to all Attleboro residents from 12:00 noon - 4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays during the months of October through April. This is a great opportunity for families to play hoops, shoot pool, play ping pong or enjoy other activities. X-SPOT ARCHERY PROGRAM Program # XSA19 Ages 8+ 7/29 - 8/2 $75.00 Make sure to register early for this popular archery program with instruction from certified Level 2 and Level 4 instructors. Founded in 1980, this Junior Olympics Archery Development Program offers a one week class for beginners and experienced Archers alike. Participants must be 8 years old and up including adults. Some of the equipment to be used includes the Ballistic Response Ladder, Lateral Resistors and Spring Vests all of which are geared toward improving your child’s speed and strength. TENNIS LESSONS We are pleased to continue the longstanding tradition of offering beginner tennis lessons. There are two Monday - Thursday sessions, each running for three weeks. Saturday morning lessons are also offered. Lessons are held at the A.H.S. Courts. Register your child by age. Your child’s skill level will be evaluated the first few days of camp after which they will be placed into an age/skill appropriate group. This helps to make the camp run more efficiently and most importantly, more enjoyable for the kids. This policy will be strictly enforced. LIFEGUARDS are on duty daily and have the authority to implement departmental policies. Lifeguards have the right to ask patrons to leave if the rules and regulations are not followed. State regulations require children under the age of 12 years old to be accompanied by an adult and they should not be left unattended at any time in the pool area. We are unable to accomodate birthday parties. Baby swim diapers are mandatory. No disposable or cloth diapers are allowed. Proper swim attire must be worn, no cut-off shorts or T-shirts are allowed. 15

BEGINNER PLUS M – F 10:00AM – 10:40AM Children entering this level should already be comfortable being in the water and have a familiarity with basic floating skills and pool rules. At this level, children will be introduced to the deep end of the pool and treading water. Instruction will focus on stroke readiness using the front and back crawl strokes and front and back glides.
