• Great Wall: In c. 220 B.C., under Qin Shi Huang, the first Chinese emperor ever, sections of earlier fortifications were joined together to form a united defense system against invasions from the north. Construction continued up to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), when the Great Wall became the world’s largest military structure. The great Wall is the world’s longest manmade structure approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) long. CHINESE VISA INFO 144-hour visa-free transit policy You do not have to have a Chinese via to run Shanghai Marathon. You can stay in Shanghai for up to 6 days if meet the following all of the following three conditions: A. Chinese visa If you do not meet the above conditions, or if you wish to travel to China with a valid visa, you should apply for the Chinese visa in the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate. For ordinary passport holders of Singapore, Brunei and Japan, you are exempt from the visa if you visit the mainland of China for tourism, business, or visiting friends and relatives, and stay no longer than 15 days. A visa is required for any tour longer than 15 days. American, Canadian and Australian passport holders can get multiple-entry Chinese visas valid for 10 years. In order to qualify for 10 year visas, the passport holders must have more than 1 year validity remaining on their passport. Once a 10-year visa has been issued, the validity of the visa does not expire if the holder renews his/her passport. The visa holder can travel carrying the old passport with valid Chinese visa along with the new passport. 14
