Wrestlers will not be allowed to leave the weigh-in room. A wrestler may move up one weight class from the weight in which he/she is qualified to compete at the time of weigh-in. 7. Mouthguard and headgear are required during competition at ISWA sanctioned events for wrestlers participating in Pee-Wee through Schoolboy/girl age divisions. Non-compliance may result in elimination from the tournament. 8. Pee-Wee age division wrestlers will be governed by the same rules as Bantam through Schoolboy/girl. All modifications imposed by USA Wrestling for Bantam through Schoolboy/girl age divisions will also apply to Pee-Wee age division wrestlers. 9. A wrestler must be allowed at least 15 minutes after a bout before he/she can compete again. 10. Athletes must weigh in wearing a competition legal uniform. 11. With the exception of the State Finals, weight classes may be split at the discretion of the local tournament host. 12. Certified Athletic Trainers will be on site to conduct skin checks during weigh-ins at all State Final Events. All decisions by the trainers regarding participation will be final! (For information on Skin Checks, visit iswa.com and select Sports Medicine under the Tournaments tab, where members can also find Physician’s Release for Wrestlers.) 13. All tournaments will be required to have the following: Tournament Director, Head Mat Official, Head Pairing Official, and a Medical Trainer. FOLKSTYLE-SPECIFIC MODIFICATIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS BY NFHS Rules will apply with the following modifications: 1. All corrections of errors must be settled with the official/head official at matside using the guidelines per NFHS Rules. No judgment issue will be reviewed. 2. The ISWA recommends line bracketing be used at all Folkstyle events where there are 4 or more in a weight class. Vertical pairing is recommended for 3 or less. Copies of bracket sheets, flow charts, etc. are available to print on the ISWA website: iswa.com. FREESTYLE OR GRECO-ROMAN-SPECIFIC MODIFICATIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS As modified by USA Wrestling, the UWW rules in the “International Rule Book” are to be followed at Freestyle and Greco-Roman events. 1. The Vertical Pairing System with positive points or Line Bracketing may be used at events. 2. Copies of wall charts, worksheets, flow charts, etc. are available to print at iswa.com. 3. The ISWA strongly suggests a Blind Draw be used at all local tournaments. ISWA 2019 MEMBER GUIDE - 13 -
2019 | ISWA POLICY REMINDERS ISWA Policy Reminders IMPORTANT ISWA POLICIES TO NOTE FOR 2019 ISWA COACHING BAND: All coaches who wish to gain matside access during any ISWA State Events must obtain an ISWA coaching band, which requires a printed USA Wrestling Leader membership card, photo ID, and a Copper Level Certification (or higher). You can now upload your photo and add it to your membership card. COACHES CLINICS: Anyone who wants to attend a Copper or Bronze Coaches Clinic must hold a current USA Wrestling Leader membership card. Purchasing this card requires SafeSport Certification and a background check through NCSI, so please allow up to 2 weeks for processing time prior to the clinic. WEIGH-INS: All ISWA sanctioned tournaments are required to hold weigh-ins. Safety of the athletes is of the utmost importance. To ensure each athlete will wrestle an athlete of like-size, athletes must weigh in through one of many different ways: on site, satellite (off site), or faxed weigh-ins. This integral aspect of wrestling is included in the rules set forth by the ISWA for all sanctioned events. FREESTYLE STATE FINALS QUALIFICATION: The ISWA requires all athletes wishing to compete in the Indiana Freestyle State Finals to qualify for the event by competing in 2 local Freestyle tournaments within Indiana. A wrestler must actively compete in the two tournaments; simply registering for a tournament does not count toward qualification. ATTENTION CADETS & JUNIORS: The ISWA amended its Freestyle State Qualification Policy for the 2019 season to allow you to substitute just 1 of the 2 ISWA-sanctioned freestyle tournament prerequisites with one of the following national tournaments: NHSCA High School Nationals, USAW Folkstyle National Championships, FloNationals, NWCA/USA National Scholastic Duals, Heartland USA National Duals (waiver for Cadets only), Dream Team Classic, and UWW Junior National Championships. While the ISWA works to build support for member clubs hosting much-needed Freestyle and Greco competitions, we’re adjusting this requirement in an effort to support our most ambitious athletes as they seek higher levels of competition during this time period when many national competitions are scheduled. (NOTE: The two-meet prerequisite is only for Freestyle State, not Greco State.) NEW ELEMENTARY DUAL CLASS: New for 2019, Elementary Dual Team Weight Classes are as follows: 43, 49, 54, 59, 63, 68, 73, 78, 84, 90, 98, 105, 115, 130, HWT (up to 175) - 14 - ISWA.COM ISWA
