With the shooting part of the day over we moved onto a very special presentation of Life Membership of the Southland Clay Target Club awarded to Jan and Trevor Manson. It is without doubt the contribution that Jan and Trevor have made to the club is second to none. Lindsay Rodgers, with his excellent speaking skills, made a great tribute highlighting their achievements along with Ewen Pirie and Mike Millard. Trevor’s input has been immense being our President, engineer, trap designer, kitchen designer, welder, target setter, bar man and a main part of our corporate shoot team. Jan’s talents are well known. Her Sheet Metalcraft 100 C Grade Trophy Errol Edwards, Jack Dickson, Rodel Ramilloza, Barry Bennett, Patrick Johnston, Jarrod Watt. contribution to school shooting has been of the highest order with well recognized results. She has been assistant secretary since the mid 80’s, cleaner, painter, gardener and, as Lindsay stated, founder and President of the Beaten by a Sheila Club which most of you are members of. Both Jan and Trevor have been at the fore front of the forward thinking and progress of our club. Past President Jeff, the next generation of the Mansons, handed over the Life Membership plaques and jerseys. Jan and Trevor, humble as they are, spoke of their experiences within the club and shooting and then the celebrations began. On behalf of the Southland CTC I wish to thank all of those shooters, members and partners that stayed on for this very special occasion. NIGHTCAPS CLAY TARGET CLUB Our yearly McGregor Shield Teams and Target Products Trophy Match was held on the 30 June. We had a very good turnout of 65 shooters competing. The conditions were very good with no wind and very mild for a winter's day, which showed in the number of possibles on the board. We had 10 teams competing for the McGregor Shield with four teams on one down: Gorge Road, West Otago, Nightcaps No. 1 and No. 2. After five targets each Gorge Road and Nightcaps No. 2 were the only ones left McGregor Shield (L-R) Peter Erb, Robert Wilson, Philip Wilson, Geoff Tweedie, Luke McMaster. and after the next five targets Nightcaps No. 2 came out the winners. The winning team consisted of Philip Wilson, Robert Wilson, Luke McMaster, Peter Erb and Geoff Tweedie. Philip and Luke are college shooters, Robert is an ex college shooter with Peter and Geoff being newer shooters to the sport, so a huge congratulations to them. Also in conjunction with this match Shooters World Gore sponsors a $250 cash prize for the winning team, so a huge thanks to them for this (I bet Mum or Dad didn’t get to see any of that boys?).
