How do I order seed? After completing a Grower Agreement growers simply work with their local approved CSD agent to work through the requirements for their own operations. A range of tools and information are available at www.csd.net.au to assist growers and consultants to make informed decisions. Summary The CSD agent confirms that the grower has an effective Grower Agreement. If this is not the case, agent facilitates the completion of a Grower Agreement. This process is electronic and the grower will receive a copy of Grower Agreement for their records. The CSD agent then assists the grower to complete a grower seed order. This is done on a farm by farm (for growers with multiple farms) basis noting the following mandatory information: • Grower Agreement number. • CSD variety and seed treatment. • Quantity requirements (20kg bags and/or 800kg bags). Irrevocable seed orders CSD cotton seed orders are irrevocable once confirmed by CSD. However, if any errors are discovered after confirmation, please contact your agent immediately and every effort will be made to assist in rectifying the problems. Planting seed supply calendar CSD is again offering Early Order and Regular Order pricing. CSD Ambassador Program About The CSD Ambassador Network Program is an initiative of the CSD Extension & Development team that aims to boost the identification, extension and adoption of crop growth and management practices which assist the delivery of CSD’s five year strategic plan goal of increasing cotton lint yields by two bales per hectare by 2020. A key focus of the Ambassador Network program is the interaction of management techniques and conditions which result in the more efficient production of consistent high yielding crops. Through the program, CSD’s E&D team collaborate with growers and other industry co-operators to develop a network of commercial scale field or trial sites across each of the major cotton growing regions, which are intensively monitored throughout the season, the crop data analysed and benchmarked, and the findings communicated to the industry. Heading into its fifth season, the CSD Ambassador Network has enabled comparisons to be made across different districts, climatic conditions and management types. Additionally, the data set can be broken into yield performance to compare the similar characteristics of high yielding crops. Key aims: • Align CSD extension initiatives with the CSD Strategic Plan goal of increasing yield by 2 bales per hectare by 2020, and improve dryland cotton productivity by 20%. • Develop an extension and benchmarking framework which will allow for: - Key cotton growth metrics to be identified and tested. - The development and extension of regionally specific management practices. • Develop a platform for the examination of leading farming practices. - Identification and extension of farming practices. - Learn through shared experiences. • Provide a platform for future technology, product development and integration. Current cotton farming key learning categories include: • Land preparation practices. • Crop establishment. • Application of FastStart™ cotton recommendations. • Crop nutrition. • Crop water use. • Yield and quality. 12
FastStart™ is a collaboration between Syngenta and Cotton Seed Distributors (CSD) that combines world leading cotton genetics, chemistry and technologies, resulting in strong, healthy establishment and robust growth in the early stages of a crop’s life up until flowering. The FastStart™ research and development program is funded through a contribution from the sale of CSD seed treated with Syngenta’s cotton seed care range. It addresses key grower and industry challenges such as the control of insect pests and diseases, as well as screening adjacent technologies to help drive yield potential and minimise risks associated with establishing cotton in Australia.
