WHY SO FEW AIRSHOWS? Wings Over Alpena Won’t Fly In 2014 It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the 2014 Wings Over Alpena air show that was scheduled for August 23, 2014. Due to lack of funding, support, and staffing, the air show will not be held this year and no future shows are planned as of this time. Muskegon; Fate of local air show uncertain The future of Summer Celebration, which includes the air show, has been a question since December, when the festival’s executive director, Joe Austin revealed it ended 2010 with a $250,000 deficit. Revenues from the air show did not reach levels Austin had expected, but he has not released any information about its future. Waterloo Ontario Airshow “Volunteers were informed last night there just hasn’t been enough support for the event in the region. Financially we could not make the event self-sustaining and after investing heavily in it for 4 years we could not justify continuing accepting the losses. Just not enough people paying to see the show, not enough sponsors.” Wings Over Waukesha Cancels 2015 Show The Wings Over Waukesha airshow in Waukesha, WI has canceled plans for a 2015 show, but hopes to return in 2016. In a post on the airshow’s Facebook page, the organization said that the cancellation is due to both runway construction work and lacking financial support. The show has always been a small but intimate affair, primarily featuring well known aerobatic acts and local warbirds. It is the closest on-airport show to Milwaukee, which hosts its own show on the shore of Lake Michigan each year. Indianapolis Air Show flies away for good A summertime tradition in central Indiana is going away for good. The Executive Committee of the Indianapolis Air Show posted a message on the air show website, saying it has decided not to produce an event in 2014 and thereafter. The looming threat of budget cuts - known as sequestration - prompted organizers to cancel this year's air show. Punta Gorda air show canceled due to lack of funds The 2015 Florida International Air Show in Punta Gorda has been canceled. The show, which is supposed to take place in March, was canceled during a board meeting on Thursday due to a sponsor pulling out of the event, Lindsey Barfield said. "It was a combination of financial issues that came up that made it questionable whether or not we could put on a show this year," said Barfield, communications and marketing director for the event. Why Are We Different? Our airshow is a living breathing 365 days a year, people in a brick and mortar building. Its answering the phone with no recordings and responding to e-mails the same day. It’s the continuity of meeting with the same people you did the year before who know your needs and remember and appreciate your support . We don’t role up our store front the minute the show is over and disintegrate into the wind unable to be found days later. Its built by government and business leaders who love their community. Its built on relationships with Kiwanis Breakfast and Rotary Lunch on Chamber Dinner and Veterans Coffee . Its built with other peoples ideas and accepting our successes and mistakes with equal humility. Its trying new things and risking being called a fool or an innovator. Its not waiting for economic recovery , its creating it! – Matt Barresi, Gaylord Regional Airport Director
