CLOSE UP The new LGV Océane railway connection: bringing New Aquitaine closer to Paris ! As of 2nd July 2017, the new high-speed railway connection will be bringing Paris closer to several New Aquitaine cities : 1hr18 min between Paris and Poitiers (as opposed to 1hr36min, currently) and 2hrs04 min between Paris and Bordeaux (currently : 3 hrs14 min). The New TGV Océane train will travel at a speed of 320kms/hr. 33 return trips will be available between the Ile de France region and New Aquitaine: 27 between Paris and Bordeaux. 17 of these connections will be direct. It will take 35 minutes to travel from Bordeaux to Angoulême and one hour from Bordeaux to Poitiers. With several additional high-speed rail services (1 to 2 stopovers) via Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Poitiers, Angoulême or Libourne, this is Europe’s largest railway construction project. Not only will it contribute to enhancing our region’s attractiveness, it will also simplify intra regional travelling. More comfortable, more laidback, more useful and more connected… the TGV Océane’s interior design will be a combination of wood, leather and fabric. EXPERIENCE OUR GREAT EVENTS EXHIBITIONS ROCHEFORT, Rochefort ITS HISTORY, ITS HERITAGE In 2017, Rochefort’s heritage and history will be in the limelight thanks to several exhibitions. From February to December 2017 at the Corderie Royale : Corderie royale, a witness to its era The International Sea Centre brings the Corderie Royale (the jewel of the Rochefort Maritime Arsenal) new life thanks to a brand new projection in the conference room. www.corderie-royale.com Starting in May at the National Marine Museum : « L’habit fait l’histoire » clothing exhibition The exhibition displays typical Rochefort and marine clothing, to show how garments can be used to tell stories and act as historical witnesses, creations and costumes. www.musee-marine.fr/rochefort From 14th June to 1st October at Hèbre de St Clément museum : La Fayette, the crossing of a lifetime This 320 sq. metre exhibition tells of Lafayette’s journey : in 1780 he climbed onboard the Hermione to support the American insurgents, fighting for their independence. www.ville-rochefort.fr/culture/equipement/hebre 5

Is it possible to dispose of coral reefs while protecting this natural heritage ? www.aquarium-larochelle.com From 9th November 2016 to 31st October 2017 at the Maritime Museum - « Nous avons fait la Delmas », The 150th anniversary of La Rochelle’s Delmas-Vieljeux company Delmas and Vieljeux: 2 names connected to the history of the harbour’s economy. The exhibition opened on 8th November at La Rochelle’s Maritime Museum. It recounts the 150 year history of the Delmas- Vieljeux maritime company, closely linked to the history of the seaside town of La Rochelle. The Delmas- Vieljeux company was created in the late 19th century and marked the town in several ways. Several Delmas and Vieljeux family members became famous for their political and activist engagements. Emile Delmas and Léonce Vieljeux both became mayors of La Rochelle. Bernardaud was awarded the « Formes de Luxe » prize for packaging innovation. Its deluxe pots are a combination of enameled porcelain, engraved “biscuit” porcelain and gold : a splendid gem for your bathroom ! 5.000 to 8.000 of these pots were sold worldwide, namely in China. Price : 500€. J.M.Weston : a cup of tea with Bernardaud The deluxe Cabas teapot is the result of an unprecedented collaboration between two Limousin businesses: Bernardaud porcelain and J.M Weston. Weston used vegetable-tanned leather from its tannery in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat to create an original mobile teapot handle. This type of leather is usually used for shoe soles. It is rot-resistant, sturdy and has remarkable thermal insulation qualities. The Palace museum in Beijing purchased enameled objects in Limoges. Beijing’s museum has recently acquired two vases by enamel- artist Pierre Christel. These two unique and rare items are on display in the museum: a tribute to the excellence of Limousin enamel. « Leather and Porcelain » competition Restyled “pétanque” balls win first place The Leather and Porcelain competition’s theme was « New uses for your lunch break ». A duo (Claire Sudres and Guilhem Naves) won the first prize, by imagining and creating porcelain “pétanque” balls. Open them up! They can contain an appetizer, main course and dessert. They have a gold trim and are handmade. They are held closed by a lambskin strap and stored in a leather bag.
