SAFETY REQUIREMENTS Appropriate disassembly, assembly methods and procedures are essential to ensure the personal safety of the individual performing the installation. Improper installation due to the failure to correctly follow these instruc- tions could cause personal injury or death. Read each step of the installation manual carefully before starting the actual installation. 1. Always wear safety glasses for eye protection. 2. Place ignition switch in the OFF position. 3. Always apply the parking brake when working on a vehicle. 4. Block the front and rear tire surface to prevent unexpected vehicle movement. 5. If working without a lift, always consult vehicle manual for correct lifting specifications. 6. Operate the engine only in well-ventilated areas to avoid exposure to carbon monoxide. 7. Do not smoke or use flammable items near or around the fuel system. 8. Use chemicals and cleaners in well-ventilated areas. 9. Batteries produce explosive gases, which can cause personal injury. Therefore, do not allow flames, sparks or flammable substances to come near the battery. 10. Keeps hands and any other objects away from the radiator fan blades. 11. Keep yourself and your clothing away from moving parts when the engine is running. 12. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can get caught in rotating parts or scratch surface finishes. 13. Allow the engine, cooling system, brakes and exhaust to cool before working on a vehicle. USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN WORKING UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. Never get near or underneath vehicle until you are confident that it is safely supported and will not move or fall from its raised position. INSTALLATION 1. Raise the vehicle to an adequate height using an appro- priate lifting device to gain access to the underside of the shifter assembly. Support the vehicle using automotive approved support stands having adequate load capacity. WARNING: Never get near or underneath 1 vehicle until you are confident that it is safely supported and will not move or fall from its raised position. 4. Remove screws (1) with #2 Phillips screwdriver. 2 1 2 1 3 4 5 2. Disconnect transmission shift selector cable (1) from 5. Lift off top finish panel (1) and remove kick panels (2) shift select lever (2). by pulling toward rear of vehicle. If possible, remove screws (3) and bracket (4). If screws cannot be removed, disconnect clip (5). 2 1 1 1 6. Remove nuts in bottom of console bin (1) using 10mm socket. Remove screws at front of center console (2) 3. Remove trim bezel (1) by prying upward around outer using 7mm socket or wrench. edge with plastic trim removal tool or other non-marring tool. 3 1 2 7. Disconnect electrical connector (1) from cigarette 10. Remove torx screw (1) from front of handle. Dis- lighter socket. connect electrical connector (2) and lift handle (3) from shifter base. 1 11. Disconnect electrical connector (1) 8. Remove center console by lifting upward, starting at the rear. 1 3 1 2 9. Disconnect electrical connector (1), remove nuts (2) and bolts (3) using 10mm socket, and remove shifter from vehicle. 12. 2 1 13. Remove torx screw (1) and inner detent spring (2). 16. Remove pivot pin and retaining clip by supporting housing with 18mm or larger socket and striking small end of pin with a hammer. Discard old retaining clip. 1 2 1 2 14. Remove 4 torx screws (1) and lift inner detent (2). 17. Disconnect brake shift interlock by rotating solenoid lever (1, highlighted green) up and out of interlock lever (2, highlighted red). 1 1 2 15. Remove shift select lever (1) with bushings. 18. 1 1 2 19. Place brake interlock lever (1) onto new handle base 22. Install shift select lever (1). lever (2) and insert into shifter base. Correct Wrong 1 2 3 3 2 1 23. Install inner detent (1) making sure overdrive switch 20. Install pivot pin (1). Place retaining ring (2) on end wires (2, white) are not underneath. Secure with 4 torx of pin with teeth facing outward. Press onto pin using screws (3) 10mm socket until ring bottoms against housing (3). 1 2 2 1 24. With shift lever in the drive position, install inner detent spring (1) with included screw (2) Adjust spring by loosening screw and sliding spring. 21. Reconnect brake shift interlock by rotating solenoid Check adjustment by placing shifter in drive and pressing lever (1, highlighted green) down until it snaps into inter- forward and backward to take up free play. 2 3 1 27. Attach Velcro to front and rear slide of light box. 25. Route white wires for overdrive switch around wire guides (1) and plug into connector (2). Secure to sole- noid wires with included tie strap (3). Wires should have some slack when shifter is in park position. 1 2 28. Install light box (1) on shifter base and reconnect electrical connector (2). 26. Separate slider assembly by releasing locking tabs. 29. 32. Move shifter to Drive position. Verify shifter can’t be moved out of drive until button is pressed. If shifter moves from drive without pressing button, see “Adjusting shift knob height” at the end of this manual. 33. Move shifter though all positions checking for smooth operation. 34. Install in vehicle, and connect transmission shift cable. 30. With shifter installed in vehicle, and foot on the brake, verify vehicle will start in the park and neutral positions. With vehicle running and foot of the brake, move the shifter through all position to verify 2 transmission shifts to correct gear. SELECTOR CABLE LEVER ADJUSTMENT 1. Raise the vehicle to an adequate height using an appro- priate lifting device to gain access to the underside of the shifter assembly. Support the vehicle using automotive D N approved support stands having adequate load capacity. With the engine off place the shifter in the drive position. 5. Place the transmission manual control lever in the drive position by rotating the manual lever (1, colored green) clockwise to the extent of travel, then rotate counterclockwise 3 detents. 1 1 3. Lift the locking tab (1) upward on the transmission selector cable lock and move upward. 6. Install the transmission selector lever cable on the selector lever. ADJUSTING SHIFT KNOB HEIGHT 1 1. Place shifter in drive position. Remove slider upper 5. Position boot into light box and attach ends of boot to panel (1) from light box by releasing locking tabs.
