Executive Summary As we enter into the third decade of the 21st century, it has never been more critical for organizations such as Gulfstream Goodwill Industries (GGI) to have a sound strategic plan. The world is changing at a pace that is unprecedented. This rapid change is creating significant challenges for those organizations stuck in the status quo, either by choice, or an inability to determine a path when it is not clearly defined. To remain relevant in a rapidly changing environment, an organization needs to be prepared to challenge status quo. This document is the culmination of a comprehensive strategic planning process that occurred throughout 2019. As part of the process, Gulfstream Goodwill enlisted extensive feedback from both internal and external stakeholders. The process included, but was not limited to: A community needs assessment to make sure our mission was aligned with community need A SWOTV assessment that identified GGI’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats An internal survey of our employees where we sought input on our mission, vision, and values What we found was great alignment with several of our mission programs, most notably in the services GGI provides in addressing homelessness and affordable housing, as well as programs providing education, training, and other supports for persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment. From there we identified five “pillars of focus” for the organization over the next three years. These include: financial stability, growing revenue, focused mission, investing in ourselves, and telling our story. These are defined over the next few pages of this document. We also made some changes in our vision and values, making eliminating poverty as the cornerstone of why we exist and what we want to help achieve in our community. We also added innovation as a key value for the first time. Goodwill’s founder Reverend Edgar Helms' vision of eradicating poverty through the power of work has not changed. It is as strong as ever. It is important that we embrace our past. It serves as the compass that provides us clarity and guidance each day. At the same time, the way Helms' vision was executed has changed dramatically over the past 118 years. It took innovation to ensure Goodwill remained relevant throughout many periods of change along the way. We are in a period of significant change. We realize that to remain relevant we must re-imagine our future. I want to thank everyone who supported Gulfstream Goodwill in the creation of this strategic plan.
