Day 1 – Tuesday 11 May 2021 L,D Departing Sydney this morning, our journey takes us north with a morning tea stop along the way. Lunch today will be at Hunter Belle Cheese in Muswellbrook, with an afternoon break in Gunnedah before arriving in Narrabri where we settle into our motel and enjoy dinner. Motel: Club Motor Inn, Narrabri NSW Day 2 – Wednesday 12 May 2021 B,L,D This morning we farewell Narrabri and continue north through Moree before crossing the border at Mungindi into Queensland. We pause in the tiny town of Thallon to see William The Wombat, a 2 metre tall sculpture. Our journey then takes us to the town of St George where we enjoy lunch at Riversands Wines, a picturesque property nestled on the banks of the Balonne River followed by a tour and tasting. Next, we stop at The Unique Egg, a world-class collection of illuminated emu eggs, handcrafted by Steve Margaritis for over 40 years. See some historic sites of the town before checking in to our motel for the night. Enjoy dinner at the motel’s Rivers Restaurant. Motel: Riverland Motor Inn, St George QLD Day 3 – Thursday 13 May 2021 B,L,D Today we travel threw picturesque township of Surat where we explore the Cobb & Co Changing Station Museum. Continuing on we arrive in Roma, which is home to the biggest cattle saleyards in the southern hemisphere with over 400,000 cattle passing through a year. Enjoy lunch then explore the new state-of-the-art interpretive centre telling the story of the cattle industry. This afternoon we take an interesting tour of the town where we see Queensland’s biggest bottle tree and a special stop to witness the stunning windows and organ at St Paul’s. We check in to our Roma motel where we will spend the next 2 nights. Dinner tonight will be at the motel. Motel: Roma Explorers Inn, Roma QLD (2 nights) Day 4 – Friday 14 May 2021 B,L,D This morning we travel to Mitchell, home of the Great Artesian Spa, comprising two large pools of artesian water. Enjoy morning tea and the chance to soak in the mineralized waters that is said to be relaxing for the body and therapeutic for the soul. We return to Roma for lunch at The Big Rig and learn about the discovery of oil and gas in Australia. This afternoon we freshen up back at the motel before returning to the Big Rig for the Night Show Sunset Experience followed by a delicious dinner at Beck’s Chopping Board located at the Big Rig. Day 5 – Saturday 15 May 2021 B,L,D We depart Roma and travel to Wallumbilla stopping to see the Aboriginal Legend Monument at Pickanjinnie before arriving at the Calico Cottage Heritage Centre. Continuing on we stop for lunch then see Chinchilla’s Big Melon before exploring the Chinchilla Museum for a fascinating glimpse into the regions history including a non-working replica of a 1910 steam sawmill, steam engines, vintage cars, period costumes and historical relics. We then check in to our Chinchilla motel where we spend the next 2 nights. Motel: The Palms Motel, Chinchilla QLD (2 nights)
Day 6 – Sunday 16 May 2021 B,L,D Today we explore the rich pastoral region and small rural towns. We stop at Progress Park in Condamine for a refreshing cuppa and a chance to see the Big Condamine Bell. Then at Tara we visit the Tara Lagoon, see Settlers Park & Walk of Remembrance Gardens. Enjoy lunch in town and wander along Main Street to see sculptures of Clarence the Camel and emus. Day 7 – Monday 17 May 2021 B,L,D We depart Chinchilla and travel through glorious countryside to Cecil Plains where we stop for lunch and a look around town. This afternoon we pause in Millmerran to see the Historic Murals scattered around town before arriving in the gorgeous border town of Goondiwindi. Motel: Best Western Ascot Lodge Motor Inn, Goondiwindi QLD Day 8 – Tuesday 18 May 2021 B,L,D This morning we visit a working Cotton Farm where some of the world’s finest quality cotton is produced. On a guided tour we hear about the regions rich farming origins, we see the Border Bridge which separates NSW and QLD, enjoy a cuppa at Customs House, visit the Heritage Water Park and see the statue of Gunsynd, the loveable racehorse that ran his way into the record books. After lunch we depart Goondiwindi, crossing the border back to NSW then travel to Gunnedah where we spend our last night. Motel: Comfort Inn Harvest Lodge, Gunnedah NSW Day 9 – Wednesday 19 May 2021 B,L This morning we start our journey back home. Enjoy morning tea around Murrurindi and lunch in Singleton arriving back in Sydney around 6:30pm depending on traffic. Thank you for travelling with KTG Tours!
