LAST YEAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR SXSW • Yes, the last year very very difficult for everyone • Cancelation of SXSW 2020 on Friday, March 6 • Layoffs of about 1/3 staff on Monday, March 9 • All the unknowns of planning for the 2021 event • Since 1987, have never been so many unknowns
LOW EXPECTATIONS FOR MARCH 2021 • Technology was pretty good, but had some flaws • Wasn’t too confident in the networking • Much less programming than we typically offer • Much more structured environment • As previously, we just didn’t know what to expect
LOW EXPECTATIONS (SOMETIMES) A GOOD THING • Very pleasantly surprised with the event itself • Partly this was our staff experience of the event • But also lots of positive community feedback • The seemed to resonate with the community on many different levels • So, let’s talk more specifics on what resonated • All this content on the SXSW YouTube for free
