In a time when stress is ubiquitous and relief is elusive, Kim Perone, Success Coach and
Mindfulness Trainer shares the keys to wellbeing as viewed through the lens of stress
reduction, resilience, recovery and reassurance of a more positive future.
                                   The four quadrants are:
Debrief: A look at the messy human experience: ego, emotions, and equanimity
Relief Mindfulness: As individuals, organization and industry

One of the most distressing and powerful events any person can experience is learning that
the death of someone they know occurred as a result of suicide. One of the darkest sides of
the human experience is when a person’s suffering and hopelessness leads them to end
their own life. Healthcare professionals can be challenged by their own capacity to engage
and work with someone experiencing such extreme despair. Dealing with individuals who
find themselves in such a dark place creates powerful emotions in others leading to feelings
of helplessness and being confused about how to respond. As healthcare workers, you can
play an important role in early identification, intervention, and prevention of such a
                                   catastrophic event.
This session will focus on increasing the knowledge of attendees regarding the prevalence
of suicide in our community and the nursing home setting. Specifically, information about
why individuals move towards suicide as a solution to their suffering will be discussed.
Participants will learn about risk factors that contribute to an increased chance of a suicide
attempt, as well as interventions to reduce the risk of such attempts, and institutional
protocols to help your team respond to residents at such an extreme level of despair.
Participants will leave the session with increased knowledge about risk factors for suicide,
ways of responding, and helping the individual cope with this dark moment in their life.

Smart leaders like you know they can’t do it alone. That’s why they intentionally look for four
people to support their vision and achieve their goals. In this presentation, you’ll meet those
four people in order to find them on your own team. Then, you’ll learn the secrets to setting
the stage for their success. Most importantly, you’ll learn how once you have that team firing
on all cylinders, you’ll find time for those big ideas you’ve been putting off and, who
knows…maybe even some time for some selfcare!

Activity Programming is essential for those residents with cognitive impairment. In
providing programming, it is about the resident’s engagement in the activity that affects
their daily living, not attendance. Small group programming that reflects your residents’
overall cognitive function and leisure interests is how we maintain our residents’ functional
skills thereby expanding their quality of life. This lecture is about how to identify your
facility’s resident population; what kind of programming is needed; how to expand group
programming; and final how to engage the resident at each level of ability.

DR. FRANCIS BATTISTI, LCSW | BATTISTI MANAGEMENT AFFILIATES | BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK

“In the sunset of my father’s life he allowed me to accompany him…to be his caregiver.
Through this journey we, “real men”, were able to share emotions and relate to each
other during a transition from father and son to companions on Checchino’s final mile to
eternity.” It was an odyssey of learning to deal with change, as well as an adaptation to
                                   needs wrought by time.
As health care workers we are presently witnessing and assisting staff, residents, and
their families with major changes in their lives and outlooks of living. By experience and
situation, we realize that these changes often create taxing environments for individuals
to live in and, in turn, to work in. Reflecting on the learning that he gathered from this
transformational caregiving experience, Dr. Battisti developed the 7 Checchino Insights.
These insights include: Trusting One’s Instincts, Relishing the Moment, Learning,
Respecting Family & Community, Acting with Dignity, Accepting Change and
                                   Maintaining Honesty.
From the perspective of the 7 Checchino Insights as a strengths-based framework, this
inspirational presentation will address significant issues that have impacted our living
communities because of the Pandemic. Some of these include how to communicate with
compassion, retention of staff, rebuilding trust and further developing a culture of caring
and self-care. Using an interactive engaging presentation style, Dr. Battisti will offer a
pathway to identify changes that one desires.
