Our Mission: At Zion Lutheran School, God's love works in and through His people. In a nurturing environment and
through academic excellence, children grow in their love of learning and in their love of Jesus.

Message from Mrs. Koch…
JOG A THON Fundraiser We are excited to try something new this year! At ZLS we are so
blessed to be supported by Zion Lutheran Church! Zion Lutheran Church allows us to offer
affordable tuition to families by making up for more than 48% of tuition costs for all of our
students and even more than that for students that receive tuition assistance. ZLS plans a
responsible budget every year and our church members, year after year, go over and above to
help meet our needs!
A large part of meeting our budget is done through fundraising. This year we are trying
something different- a JOG A THON! This fun event for Preschool through Eighth Graders
will be held on October 29th on our school’s walking track during the school day. We will
be setting goals for each class and competing for class and individual prizes. The link is already
live and will be shared in a separate email in early October. Watch for a separate email with
details and the link for donating and sharing with family and friends.
How can you help? Be ready to share your child’s link, gather donations, and help us raise
funds! We already have ten volunteers for this event but if you would like to help on the day of
this event there will be a sign up in the newsletter in the coming weeks!
Thank you in advance for your support for our school. The fundraiser support is awesome AND
your positive “WORD OF MOUTH” support in the community is irreplaceable!

“Doing all things in LOVE”,

Mrs. Koch
Interim Principal, ZLS

8th Grade Mum Fundraiser: Congratulations, New Record! You were a part of a record
setting year! As a group, we sold 459 mums and earned over $2,000 towards the cost of the
8th grade Chicago trip!

Delivery time/location: Mums will be delivered to school this afternoon. If you have an
especially large order, I would suggest coming by school either at 2:00 or at 3:15, once car line
is done. Mums will be spread all over the front/south lawn on the school side of campus, and
will be organized into 7th and 8th grade sections. 8th graders will be available to help load from
approximately 2:00-2:15 and 3:15-3:30.

Again, thank you to all who participated! Our next fundraiser will likely be a Krispy Kreme Donut
Sale!

Choir: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade sings this Sunday at the 8:15 worship service.

Papa John’s Day: This Tuesday, September 28th is our next Papa John’s Day. Zion Lutheran
School receives up to 25% of your order. We earn a higher donation when you order online!

C (will either say IN or OUT); sometimes if the weather is nice we will stay out longer in the
fenced in preschool playground area.

the office is attached. Turn in the order Monday morning by 9am and the order will be filled
immediately with in-stock gift cards or an order placed and available for pick up (or sent home
with your child) by the end of the week. Scrip profit is deducted from your tuition in August,
January and May.. Please call the office if you have any questions.

place your donations in the designated tub in the church Ministry Center or by the school office.
When we collect enough supplies to ship, our school students will assemble the bags to get
ready for shipment to Lutheran World Relief. The supplies needed are: plain spiral notebooks
(70ish sheets), rulers (must have cm), small pencil sharpeners, blunt scissors, plain yellow
pencils, black or blue pens, boxes of 24 crayons, pink erasers, and sturdy drawstring bags. If
you would like to make some bags for us, the directions can be found in the church or school
office, or can be emailed to you. Contact Kim Griffith at kgriffith@zionbethalto.org for the
directions. Our chapel offerings for this year total $200.31.

Notes from Mrs. Koch- Weather Changing! Fall is such a fun time. We are enjoying teaching
our preschoolers about changing leaves, apples, pumpkins, and so much more! Keep in mind
the drastic change in the weather during fall days! We go outside to play during the mornings
and need jackets (labeled with names) and then by the afternoons we don’t. Also- don’t forget
we need extra clothes for accidents that happen during our preschool day. Preschool accidents
aren’t always potty accidents! As you go through your child’s closet this fall, if you have extra
pants that you would be willing to donate to our preschool we would appreciate it- we like to
keep extra pants just in case one of our friends needs to borrow them!

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip: The entire preschool is invited to go to Relleke’s Pumpkin Patch on
October 22nd at 9:00am. Watch for details and pricing in a separate email next week. Please
note that every preschooler will need an adult on this trip.
PTL Spotlight

Hello! My name is Nikki Winkelmann and on behalf of the PTL board -- WELCOME Zion families
to the 2021/22 PTL year! We are excited to have new events to share with the Zion community
throughout the year.

You might be thinking “what is PTL?” PTL stands for Parent Teacher League. The organization
is established for the purpose of supporting the education of children at Zion Lutheran School by
fostering relationships among the church, school, parents, and teachers. The mission of the ZLS
PTL is to sustain, enhance and enrich the academic learning environment of our students while
providing the help and resources to better support and equip our teachers and staff. The ZLS
PTL will strengthen our school by:

· Raising funds to provide cutting edge facilities for our students and teachers.

· Ensuring a strong parent teacher relationship through a spirit of appreciation and open
communication.

· Providing social opportunities to connect parents, teachers, staff, and students.

See You at the Pole: This week was our first PTL sponsored event. THANK YOU to the 6th
graders and everyone else who volunteered their time to make See You At The Pole a great
event!

PTL Volunteer: Are you thinking… basically it is creating fun! How do I get involved? Zion
parents automatically become PTL members upon enrollment of their student(s). PTL offers
many opportunities and levels of involvement from volunteering to becoming a board member.
Not sure you have the time to commit to volunteering? It is easier than you think. Sometimes it
is as simple as setting up a table, emptying a trash can, or just being a friendly face at events.

Zion Lutheran School is a religious institution and therefore, doesn't receive any state or federal
funding for academics. Zion Lutheran Church subsidizes a significant portion of every student's
tuition. The school is supported by the church, tuition, volunteer support labor, and fundraisers
by the PTL and the school. I hope you will consider joining us.

If you would like to volunteer but aren’t sure how, I will include my information below. Email me
and we will find a role for you that is fun and rewarding.

We hope to see you at our next event:

· 10/15 at 7pm: Movie Night – Volunteers needed – Click here to sign up!

Stay tuned for more information about our events for the year! Thank you for your support - we
couldn't do it without you!

Movie Night: We hope you will join us October 15th for Movie Night and meet the PTL board
and committee members.

Nikki Winkelmann
