Year 9 Exams Revision Lists
The Year 9 Exams will take place in the week commencing 15 th January 2018 and an exam
timetable will be provided when we come back to school in January. The exam revision lists
below have been provided to give you the chance to get on top of your revision, during the
holidays.

                                      REVISION TIPS
Make a 'revision timetable' so you and your family know when you are revising and what
you are revising.

Create summary notes and anything simple that helps your memory – as short notes,
drawings, sayings and even songs.

Get help. Ask friends and family to test you.

Make sure you follow the revision lists that your teachers give you – as teachers will know
better than anyone what will be in tests and exams!

Record yourself reading notes on your phone and occasionally listen to them instead of
reading.

Chunk your revision – don’t try to do it all at once and take a 5 or 10 minute break every 30
minutes and do some stretching exercises, go for a short walk or make yourself a drink.

Make sure you get a good 8 hours of sleep each night.

Eat well. Good brain foods? Wholegrain foods (cereals, wheat bran, wheatgerm and whole
wheat pasta). Blueberries. Blackcurrants. Broccoli. Tomatoes. Oily fish. Nuts.

Don't panic if you feel a bit nervy. A certain amount of nervousness actually helps you
perform to the best of your ability, producing a rush of adrenaline that helps you to feel
alert and focused.

Think positive – you might just surprise yourself.

Don’t get overwhelmed - Be micro-ambitious and work on whatever is in front of you at
the time.

Get to school on time – you don’t want to enter an exam in a state of panic.

Equipment – make sure that you have all the right equipment need for that exam and make
sure that you have at least two BLACK pens.
Mathematics
Make sure that you have all the Maths equipment that you will need: Pen, Ruler, Compass,
Protractor, Pencil, Rubber, Calculator and that you know how to use them correctly.

The revision lists are below, with clip numbers for most of the topics on mathswatch. Use
the right list for your class to prepare for the exam, which will include questions from topics
covered in the learning plans produced for Autumn Term 1 and 2 this Year.

English
You will complete a reading and a writing exam for English.
The reading paper will test how well you analyse a piece of writing by explaining what a
writer is trying to say and how they are saying it. You will need to include lines from the text
and explain what the writer meant. Better responses might explain the effect on the
reader, give alternative interpretation and zoom into individual words.
The writing paper will test how well you can write. It will focus on key literacy skills such as
using correct punctuation and spelling. You will also be tested on how well you can craft an
interesting and entertaining piece of writing by using a wide variety of sentences as well as
similes, metaphors, personification and writing techniques.

        Religious Studies

Different styles of questions in your exam are worth different marks.
A question = outline three….. You must give three examples or beliefs or ideas. (3 Marks)
B question = Describe two…. You must explain two beliefs or ideas etc. You should write two
paragraphs using the PEE method. (4 Marks)
C question = Explain two…. You need to include reference to a source of wisdom or authority in
this answer (e.g. Bible teachings, church teachings etc.)
Again you should write two paragraphs using the PEE method. (5 marks)
D question = Evaluate the statement. You must read the statement and explain arguments for
