Poynton with Worth Town Council Poynton Update and News, 7th November 2019 Remembrance Day, Sunday 10th November The parade will leave the civic centre car park at 9.35am and will be followed by the service and the Act of Remembrance at St George’s Church at 10am. There will also be a service for all ages in the Church Hall at 10am. Wreaths and poppies will be placed on and around the war memorial immediately following the church service and two minutes silence. Everyone is very welcome. Afterwards the British Legion, supported by the WI, is offering refreshments and at its Club House on George’s Road West. Please note that the police will be closing the roads to traffic to allow the parade along Park Lane across Fountain Place to St George’s Church at approx. 9.40am and to return at approx.11.15am. Remembrance Day Poppies The ‘Poppy Squad’ - a small group of local volunteers, have once again supported Poynton Town Council staff in putting up Poynton’s poppies. The poppies were provided by Men in Sheds a couple of years ago and continue to provide a sign of respect to our fallen heroes. Men in Sheds also created ‘John Henry’, Poynton’s lifesize silhouette solider, which you see in the Civic Hall reception, from where you can also get a Poppy Appeal poppy. New parking enforcement at Waitrose Poynton Town Council have been informed that Waitrose plan to commence parking enforcement from today, in the short stay area of the Waitrose car park. Motorists are likely to be ticketed if they stay over 2 hours or return within 2 hours. Poynton Town Council do not own the car park and are currently investigating the development. Please direct any enquiries to Waitrose. Chester Road resurfacing works/Road closure Cheshire East Highways have programmed a further 2 days for carriageway resurfacing to be carried out on Chester Road, Poynton. The works are programmed to begin from Wednesday 13th November to Thursday 14th November 2019 between the hours of 09:30 – 15:30. Moggie Lane bridge repair update Cheshire East Council have had to suspend the works on Moggie Lane bridge. United Utilities, the asset owner, have assessed the water trunk main in the area of the collapse and have confirmed that it is not safe to work in the area until an over-ground diversion is installed. Cheshire East Highways are unable to provide a timescale until the work is carried out by United Utilities. As soon as Poynton Town Council receive more information, it will be made available to residents. Recycling and bin collections From Monday 4th November your bin collection day may be changing. Please check your new calendar that will detail if your collection day has changed. These calendars have been posted to all households. Road sweeping Cheshire East Council regularly sweep the roads in the Town. Poynton Christmas Fest 2019, Park Lane, Tuesday 3rd December, 7pm – 9pm The Town Council is supporting Christmas Fest 2019 and thanks the shops and businesses who have already donated or pledged contributions towards the cost of this year’s event. Shop keepers in particular are invited to contact the voluntary organising committee to offer a donation to support one of the busiest days of the year and a much valued community event. Council Community Support Team (CCST) update Community Team Surgery Meet the Team at their Community Surgery this Friday 8th November 10am - Noon in the entrance to Waitrose supermarket. It’s an ideal opportunity to talk to them about any community issues you may have. Bonfire safety talks The CCS Team have been busy over the last couple of weeks presenting their Halloween and Bonfire safety talks to many young people’s organisations and schools in the community. Hate Crime 3rd Party Reporting Centre The CCS Team are now trained to take initial reports from residents wishing to report incidents of ‘Hate Crime’ on behalf of Cheshire Police. The three members of the CCST attended a ‘Hate Crime 3rd Party Reporting Centre Training Day’ at Cheshire Police Headquarters and as a result Poynton Town Council is now a ‘Hate Crime 3rd Party Reporting Centre’.
