Brooksbank 6th Form TASKS and ACTIVITIES These are compulsory tasks The first topic you will study in Section A is The cardiovascular System. Complete tasks 1-4, making notes where required. Task 1 Use the diagram of the heart and the circulation of blood around the body. Label the components of the CV system and show the route of the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Task 2 State, describe and explain the immediate effects of exercise on the CV system. Task 3 State, describe and explain the long term effects of exercise on the CV system. Task 4 Select two appropriate sports and elite performers from the Olympic Games (Rio or Tokyo) who would show these changes to help your explanations. Produce a one page revision guide for an A-level PE student that presents this information. 5

Brooksbank 6th Form Sport in Society In Year 12 we begin the course by looking at what sport was like before the Industrial Revolution and then how things changed through the 18th & 19th centuries before we look at modern day sport. Brooksbank 6th Form Task 2 Did you know that the modern Olympic Games originated in a village in Shropshire called Much Wenlock? Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12AtnvguzVM Use the video and additional research to produce another mind map / Powerpoint slide that summarises the Wenlock Olympian Games. Include the following information: WHO initiated the games? WHY did they happen? WHAT was the purpose / function of the Games? WHICH events were included? WHERE & WHEN were the Games held? WHO was Baron Pierre De Coubertin? WHAT is the link between Much Wenlock and the modern Olympics? Try to keep it to one page / one slide. Use images as well as text. 11
Brooksbank 6th Form Section A – Fitness and Training Task 1 Research 6 fitness tests and describe the protocol for each and what component of fitness it tests. Task 2 Research the physiological reasons for warming up and cooling down. Produce a one page revision guide for each task. Make sure you have adequate detail as you will require this work for the first lesson in this section. 12
