July Meeting Minutes, Continued … ● Difficult to plan reunion with only 40 attendees. ● How do we increase numbers? ● On Facebook plan on advertising in group a little more so folks can easily find information on the event without having to search back through the posts. ● Looked back at numbers from past reunions to see if there was a trend. Roanoke always does well as far as numbers. ● Maybe have a poll with multiple locations listed to see what is most popular. Would need to have willing hosts for those selections. ● Have presentation at genealogy workshop to encourage more people to attend session. ● Photos, articles, etc have been sent to Robin Landgren. It would be nice to have centralized location for those such as the Blacksmith Shop. ● Make sure Facebook has the website listed and an option to sign up for newsletter. Letter from the President Making Time for Family By Rose McMullin It is that time again, time for the fall newsletter, so here I am pondering what to write. I received Bernie’s email, on the same day as one of my second cousins held an annual family dinner. My father, Jesse McMullin, was the baby of his family of six kids. His oldest sister was starting her family at the time my father arrived on the scene, much to my grandmother’s surprise. We always got together for holidays in my youth, but as the family grew it became harder and harder to make that happen. A couple of years ago one of my second cousins started hosting a get together at the beginning of deer season, all of his brothers and extended families come in at that time, (they are a family of seven boys and one girl). He then extended the invitation to the entire family. So now it has become a yearly event which keeps growing. We also try to get together in the spring. As we get older we realize the need to keep in touch, unfortunately as the old saying goes “sometimes youth is wasted on the young.” It gets harder to pull such big families together. To make sure our family survives we have to work at keeping it together. Last year I challenged everyone to bring some one new to the reunion and we had a lot of interesting discussion on how to succeed and continue with the Wysong Reunion. Keep in mind this year’s reunion is in Kansas City, please make plans to come. Our family has been planning and has rallied the troops to pull off a successful reunion, so put it on your calendars and we will see you there. Have a wonderful Holiday season with your families and friends and see you in K.C in the summer!!! Deaths Josephine Ann Wysong, of New Lennox, IL., passed away September 6. David S. Dr. Dudley Wysong Scholarship Fund Annual Appeal Letter Upon the subject of education,……I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people may be engaged in. Abraham Lincoln Dear Wysong Family: Thanks to your generosity the Dr. Dudley Wysong Scholarship Fund has awarded 36 scholarships to deserving family member students during the first eight years of its existence. Now is your chance to join with the many other generous Wysong family members who are making a college education possible for the next generation of Wysong students. We are preparing to award scholarships for the tenth consecutive year. You can be proud that so many family members have come forth with donations to support this excellent cause. The key to the success of the scholarship program is the number of gifts that we receive to assist many worthwhile family college applicants to achieve their life dreams. The amount of each family member’s gift is not what is important. What is important is that as many family members as possible participate and give what they can afford. Every gift is important no matter how small or large. Thanks to many family members generosity, two $1,500 scholarships were awarded in 2018 at the family reunion in Naperville, IL. We have already begun to receive gifts in support of the 2019 awards but many more are needed. In the end, the number and amount of scholarships to be awarded are directly determined by the contributions actually received each year. With the high cost of education, college students need for help is great. This program helps to assure that future generations of Wysong descendents will gain the knowledge and training necessary to succeed in their family life and careers. Remember, OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE. By financially supporting the Dr. Dudley Wysong Scholarship Fund you are helping future generations attain a higher education by working towards a two year associate degree or a four year undergraduate degree. Please participate and give whatever you can afford. Contributions made are entirely tax deductible. By working together now, we can make a brighter future for many generations of Wysong children. If you have any questions concerning the Dr. Dudley Wysong Scholarship Fund, please do not hesitate to e-mail us at wysongscholar@aol.com. We are thankful and grateful for your support. With best regards to you and your family, Scholarship Committee Members: Marty DeWelt, Cindy Klimaitis, Krista Wysong, Mary Wysong and Bob DeWelt.
