Welcome Kia Ora and welcome to Morrinsville Intermediate School. We extend a very warm welcome to all new students and their families and wish you a happy, successful and rewarding associaon with our school, and wider community. As a school, we are commied to providing a rich and broad curriculum, in a well-resourced school, to best engage our learners and develop posive relaonships. Emerging adolescence is such an important developmental stage and the Morrinsville Intermediate School Board has been careful to ensure that the design, staffing and learning programmes of the school are ‘best fit’ for emerging adolescents. We enable and empower our teachers to provide students with a connected curriculum where learning is meaningful, authenc and fun. We recognise the importance of the trust you put in us to ‘get it right’ during your child’s intermediate years and take pride in the fact that our school is a place where our students want to be. We strongly believe that for our students to succeed, they need to have posive self-esteem and be immersed in an environment that acknowledges their efforts and celebrates their successes. Along with this, they need the support of their families/whanau and a dedicated, caring and supporve staff. Learning partnerships are important to us. Our vision ‘Empowering Learners to Succeed’ is of paramount importance as we support students to take responsibility for their learning, and develop the skills to ‘learn how to learn’. We believe that learning-focused partnerships encompassing students, teachers and family/whanau beer enable success. We work hard with our students to ensure they know what they are learning, the purpose for their learning, how to set and monitor goals and how to idenfy and respond to their next steps through a range of curriculum opportunies. The key competencies feature strongly in our curriculum as students are equipped with disposions for life. Emerging adolescents enjoy exposure to opportunies available within this school that are broad and reflect a 21st Century learning environment. In this way our students are well prepared to experience success at College and beyond. Coupled with opportunity is compeon and this is evident in all we do; where individuals are recognised for personal growth, while outstanding achievement is encouraged and celebrated. We look forward to you joining our school where you will become an important part of our learning community. We welcome and value the support and parcipaon of family/whanau at school acvies and events. We give you our commitment that we will do our very best to support all students to develop the foundaon necessary to ensure a successful transion onto their secondary educaon. In summary, Morrinsville Intermediate School is an inclusive school that strives to achieve equity and excellence for all students. We endeavour to ensure our students develop and demonstrate the disposions of being confident, connected, acvely-involved life-long learners on a day-to-day basis, so they become: ‘Empowered to Succeed’. Our school moo reflects all that Morrinsville Intermediate School encourages: Kia U Ki Te Pai – whatever you do let it be your best. Kind regards, Jenny Clark Principal

Digital Technology at Morrinsville Intermediate School We are a well resourced school with all classrooms accessing devices at a rao of at least 1:3. Further to this, students have access to a bank of devices in the hub and digital technology suite. However, students are encouraged to bring their own device as we are a BYOD school. This supports them to be responsible for managing their device (chromebook, laptop, ipad) to further support and enhance their learning. There are a range of enrichment opportunites for students, including: Robocs, 123 Tech, EPro 8, Coding, Digi Awards. The digital technology curriculum is designed to enhance students crical thinking, problem solving capabilies and conceptual thinking. Students are provided experiences to promote: • Designing and developing digital outcomes • Computaonal thinking for digital technologies BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING 1. Engagement Students oen show greater levels of engagement and movaon when working electronically. Informaon and presentaons can be delivered in a range of mulmedia formats. We have experienced high levels of wrien language from students when they work directly on the computer. Students express that they can focus on the language required rather than the need to present work neatly. 2. Authenc audience Presenng learning on-line allows for an authenc audience. Instead of their learning acvies remaining at school, in their books and in the desks, it can be shared with a global audience. Informaon can also be gathered from experts internaonally providing students with a wealth of informaon and contexts. 3. Learning beyond the classroom walls E-Learning allows for students to connue learning beyond the classroom. Students can work on a range of acvies and present informaon in a variety of formats. 4. Feedback E-Learning allows students to receive instant feedback about their learning and next steps for development. This feedback could be from their peers, teachers, parents or even family from around the world. 5. Online resources E-Learning allows for the use of a huge range of online resources. These could be video tutorials, web sites, interacve games, the list is endless! Everyone has equal access to informaon and at the same me. 6. The Board of Trustees ensures all students have access to devices that enable them to develop the skills and capabilies to meet the demands of the digital technolgy curriculum, as 21st centrury learners.
Morrinsville Intermediate is a BYOD school BENEFITS OF A BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD) SCHEME 1. Increased Access Having their own computer increases access to the computer both at school as well as home. This would mean not having to wait for their turn on the classroom computers or to use Mum’s or Dad’s computer. 2. Personal Having their own chromebook allows students to make their computer personal to them, therefore allowing them to bookmark pages and save files onto their computer. This will make accessing sites and learning acvies started at school easier. 3. Home/School links Will allow parents access to see what students are learning and how they are progressing. Instead of books staying in children’s desks, parents can see what students are learning at school via the computer. 4. Connuity The transion between home and school would be seamless. Learning can connue wherever internet access is available. 5. Cyber Safety Being responsible online users is a vital. The online environment will be a significant part of these children’s lives and deliberate efforts are made to achieve posive atudes toward cyber safety. Learning to be responsible for the equipment is also an important lesson for children. Children value it more if it is their property. NB: Please note that we don’t consider phones suitable learning devices.
