PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE
The Parks & Recreation Committee serves as the sole advisory group to the Board of Selectmen on matters
related to Parks & Recreation programs, services, and facilities. This Commission meets on a monthly basis.
If you have an item that you would like the Committee to discuss, please contact the Parks & Recreation

           TUCK’S POINT CHOWDER HOUSE
The Tuck’s Point Chowder House is an open air picnic pavilion that is available for rent. It can seat a maximum of 125
people and is used for picnics, reunions, birthday parties, etc. There are no cooking facilities available at Tuck’s Point. A
reservation form and full payment are required to reserve the chowder house. All caterer information must be received in
full 30 days before the scheduled date, or the date may be forfeited. Reservation forms are available at Manchester
Town Hall and online at: www.manchester.ma.us/recreation. Payment accepted by cash or check only for Tuck’s Point.
Manchester residents can begin making reservations for the Tuck’s Point Chowder House beginning on
Thursday, October 11th, 2018 at 5:00pm for the 2019 season. Reservations will take place in the
Selectmen’s Meeting Room #5 at Manchester Town Hall. All people present at 5:00 will be entered into a lottery to de-
termine reservation order. Non-Residents may begin making reservations on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

The Rotunda is a separate structure and gathering spot used for short wedding ceremonies, prom pictures, etc. is open
to the public and can not be reserved. The rotunda and it’s path must always remain open for boaters and the public.

          CROWELL CHAPEL INFORMATION
Crowell Chapel is a small gothic looking stone structure located at 4 Rosedale Avenue in Manchester, Massachusetts.
Commissioned to be built by Susan Crowell in memory of her brother Benjamin Franklin Crowell in 1903, the chapel is
one of Manchester’s hidden jewels. The chapel is available to rent on a first come first served basis for groups of 120 or
fewer people and any interested party should contact Manchester Parks & Recreation at 978-526-2019. Reservation
forms with more information are also available online at: www.manchester.ma.us/recreation.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
MISSION: The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department strives to offer programs and services that help to
enhance quality of life through parks and exceptional recreation opportunities. We provide opportunities for all residents
to live, grow and develop into healthy, contributing members of our community.
Whatever your age, ability or interest we have something for you.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
    All programs are offered on a “first come – first served” basis via mail-in, fax, scanned email registration from this
     brochure, through our website or in person at the Parks & Recreation office.
 All programs operate on a self supporting basis. The Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel
     classes that do not support themselves.
 Checks should be made payable to: MANCHESTER PARKS & RECREATION. Registrations should be mailed to:
     Manchester Parks & Recreation, 10 Central Street, Manchester, MA 01944, or dropped off in Room #7.
     You can also register for programs online with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express at
     www.manchester.ma.us/recreation and then click on the link to register for programs online or direct at mbtsrec.com.
 There is a $25.00 service fee for all returned checks.
 Non-residents are allowed to sign up for any Recreation Department program.
 If schools are closed due to inclement weather, then all recreation programs for that day are also cancelled. On
     weekends or in the summer months, if the weather is questionable, please call the Parks & Recreation Department
     Weather Information/Cancellation Line at 978-525-6429 and the status of the activity will be posted. Generally, the
     status of the program will be posted 1 hour prior to the start of the program.
 Confirmation of your course will NOT be made. You will only be notified if the class is full or is cancelled due to low
     enrollment. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend your class at the first meeting.
 Our online registration system allows you to create a family account. By creating a family account, you will only have
     to fill out your family information one time. Then for all future registrations you would simply select the appropriate
     family member’s name from the drop down menu. The second benefit of creating your own family account is that you
     have the ability to login to your account and see what programs you are currently registered for and if you have any
     outstanding balances and pay that balance if you wish.

ADULT RECREATION PROGRAMS
FURNITURE PIANTING WITH SHACKTEAU INTERIORS
Come join me, Kristen in learning all the basics in furniture painting. I'll cover all the tips and tricks
along with my favorite products to help you with your own projects. The class is design to have you
leave feeling comfortable and confident. I keep it simple to save you time and money. You can join
us with little to no experience or come to polish up on your skills. I can allow extra time to talk to stu-
dents who are more advanced and have questions about technique as well. You’re welcome to bring
a small project or I can provide a chair or small project to paint. All paint supplies included.

DESIGN YOUR OWN LANDSCAPE
Design your own landscape by Designer Lisa Zanetti. Have you always wanted to make your backyard your
personal oasis but didn't know where to start. Join Lisa and her relaxed fun setting at historical Seaside One.
This program will meet 6 times, one time a week to focus on various aspects of the design process. Email

ADULT TENNIS LESSONS
Back by popular demand!!! Come join Adrian Reyes a certified PTR Pro and has been a teacher and tennis
advocate for many years. The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department is teaming up with the MAC and
will be offering tennis lessons this Fall for adults for advanced beginners through intermediate. Students will
focus on eye hand coordination, stroke mechanics, repetitive motion, singles/doubles and basic strategy. The
class will be held on the at Brook Street Courts. 8 lessons.

STANDARD FIRST AID
The purpose of this course is to train individuals in the skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid
care for severe bleeding, burns, injuries to muscles, bones and joints, and heat & cold related emergencies.
Participants will receive a two year certification in First Aid from the National Safety Council.

ADULT CPR & AED
The purpose of this course it to train individuals in the skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for
life threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults including the use of an AED. Participants will
receive a 2 year certification in Adult CPR/AED from the National Safety Council.

EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PROGRAMS
MORNING GYM
This program is designed to meet the needs of families with busy mornings. The children have the
opportunity to play freely in the gym or play organized games with instructors Karen Manos and Yvonne
Robbins. The cost is just $6 per day and will run from 7:15am - 8:15am. (No early drop offs please). If you
are interested in participating in this morning activity please fill out the registration form. Once this form has
been filled out and returned you are welcome to send your child any morning without notice. We will charge
your account and a monthly recreation email bill will be sent to you. You will have till the 15th of the month to
pay your previous months use, using our online web page at www.mbtsrec.com.

HORNETS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Hornets After School program offers a safe, supportive alternative between school and home for
children in grades K - 5. Activities include outdoor play, open gym, arts and crafts, homework time, seasonal
activities and daily snack time. Program runs every day from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at the Manchester Elementary
School. Parents have the option of sending their children 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week. Tuition is paid on a
monthly basis at the end of each month. If you have multiple children attending the program, there is a 10%
sibling discount. This years program begin on Wednesday, August 30th.

                         STUCK FOR CHLDCARE? NEED A SOLUTION?
 Have your child participate in the Hornets After School Program on an as needed basis for only $19.00 per
 day. Children will receive a daily snack, participate in games, activities, arts & crafts and homework time. All
   participants must complete the After School Registration forms in advance and sign up for a day with a
               minimum of 24 hours notice. One Time per school year Registration fee is $60.

   9TH ANNUAL MANCHESTER PUMPKIN FESTIVAL
           SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20th
          Manchester Parks & Recreation has teamed up once again with the Manchester
       Community Center & Manchester Mother’s Club to organize the 9th Annual Manchester
     Pumpkin Festival. The free event will take place outside the Community Center and will run
  from 10:00am-Noon on Saturday, October 20th rain or shine. There will be pumpkins available
  for free decorating, face painting, refreshments, hay rides and more. Fun and Free activities for

YOUTH PROGRAMS
GYM GAMES WITH MR. BORIA (GRADES K-2)
Gym games with the world famous Mr. Boria. Everyone will be challenged, learn new skills and
have a blast! Proper clothing and sneakers are required. Program is geared for children in grades
K- 2nd. Please wear sneakers and pack a snack and water bottle. We promise to send your children
home tired! No class 11/6.

BEGINNER VIOLIN MISS NATTI (GRADES 3- 5)
Come learn to play the Violin or Cello with Miss Natti! We will be starting from scratch, learning
about the instruments, figuring out proper technique, and then starting to build a song
repertoire. Instrument rental is through Johnson String Instruments, and not included in the program

BEFORE SCHOOL MEDITATION FOR KIDS
This class is all about simple relaxation exercises that help children connect to their own peaceful
energy and ground themselves. They will learn through their own experience that they have within
them, a calm, natural energy that is always there and is always accessible. Through the exercises,
students will learn that they can nourish and calm themselves in stressful situations or anytime. We’ll
meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:30am – 8am, September 25th - October 18th. Feel free to contact

STRATEGY CHESS WITH MISS ROBBINS (GRADES 2- 5)
Strategy Chess Club gives students an opportunity to play friendly games of chess against their
peers in a low-stress environment. Students of all levels are welcome to come, as help is given to
those who need it. Miss Robbins is very excited to share her knowledge of one of her favorite board
games. Back in the day, Miss Robbins was the Chess Club President in High School. This is a six
week class, no class on the half day, Dec 5th. Please pack a peanut free snack and drink.

ADVANCED VIOLIN CLASS WITH ALEXIS MACTAYLOR (GRADES 3-5)
For students who already have the basics of playing a string instrument, join Miss MacTaylor in an
advanced string ensemble. We will be working on improving playing, working as a chamber group
and performing independently. At least one year of string playing is required. Instrument rental is

SOCCER SHOTS MINI AND CLASSIC AT MASCONOMO PARK (AGES 2-5)
Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our
caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching,
curriculum and communication. Our coaches are the best-trained in the business. Our expert-
approved curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with childhood education standards. In addition
we provide an exceptional customer experience and ongoing communication with parents. Soccer
Shots is the official 2-5 year-old soccer program of US Youth Soccer.

Soccer Shots Mini is a high-energy program introducing children to fundamental soccer principles, such as

ment, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active.

CLASSIC (Ages 3-5, Pre-K) Dates: Friday, September 28th- October 26th Time: 10:10-11:00am
Soccer Shots Classic utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling,
passing and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork
and appreciation.

ZUMBA KIDS (GRADES K-5)
Zumba for kids is a perfect way to burn some energy and move your groove thang!!!Zumba Kids
breaks down classic Zumba moves into fun, kid-friendly routines. Come join Instructor, Mrs. Rice as
she shakes up the stage at Memorial School with her fun dance music and super cool moves. Mrs.
Rice spent all last year at Memorial teaching the Hornet’s after School kids to Zumba. She was a big
hit and we wanted to open up the class to the whole school.

This club will be coached by Mr. Boria. The club is designed to spark an interest in the sport of Vol-
leyball! Volleyball Club’s purpose will be to teach the fundamentals of volleyball so that the kids will
know how to bump, set, spike, serve and dig the ball. This is a 8 week club.

B-BALL TRAINING WITH COACH ST. LAURENT(GRADES 3-5)
Manchester Essex High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Tim St. Laurent, will be running a winter
basketball clinic’s at Memorial School Gym. This clinic is for boys and girls in grades 3 through 6. The ses-
sions will be fun drills that concentrate on dribbling, passing, shooting, proper footwork, and defense. Coach
St. Laurent will also go over with the kids the Manchester Parks and Recreation League rules. Spaces are
limited, don’t delay and register today.

Students will learn the basics of programming and coding, which with incorporate STEAM activities,
creativity and collaboration. Robotics Club will enhance what is being taught in computer class and
will deepen students understanding of programing. We will be using Sphero Robots to create our
programs and explore the world of coding. Please BYOT (bring your own tablet). These are 4 weeks
of 2 hour classes.

We are off to Danvers to visit Connor’s Farm. On this trip the children will enjoy the creative man made corn
maze, enjoy a hayride, jump on the one of a kind jumping pillow, ride around on the pedal carts, check out
the animal barn and enjoy a cup of fresh cider and warm apple cider donut. We can only take 40 children on

Don’t miss this Early Release! We are leaving the building to go watch the new movie titled Small Foot at the
Gloucester Cinema. A Yeti named Migo stirs up his community when he discovers something that he didn't
know existed -- a human. Could humans really be real? This half day trip covers the bus trip admission and a
small popcorn and drink. The children can bring extra money for snacks, playing games during the movie is
not permitted.

HALLOWEEN CRAFT DAY & PIZZA PARTY (GRADES K - 5)
As if Halloween couldn't get any better? Memorial School has a early release on Halloween. Join the ghoulish
fun with Manchester Parks and Recreation. On this day we will make a couple Halloween crafts, watch a
Witchy Halloween movie and enjoy Cheese Pizza and Popcorn in the cafeteria. We will also get outside for
some fresh air and a good ol game of Ghost Tag!

EARLY RELEASE TRIP TO CLAY DREAMING (GRADES K-5)
Let’s get crafty, this day is about fun and self expression!!! On this Early Release Day we will enjoy a bagged
lunch from home then get on the bus to Beverly to paint at Clay Dreaming. Clay Dreaming Pottery Studio is a
communal atmosphere where students of all ages and skill levels come to create. Children will have the
choice to paint a small bowl or small plate. All projects MUST stay at Clay Dreaming so they can be placed in
the kiln. Your piece of pottery will be ready to pick up 1 week from the day of completion. Due to space - we
ask that you pick your pottery up in a timely manner. Clay Dreaming is not responsible for pieces left over 60
days.

MANCHESTER HISTORICAL SOCIETY (GRADES K-5)
Let’s add a little Manchester history to the noggin of your child. Manchester Parks and Recreation is pleased
to be teaming up with Beth Welin the Director of Manchester Historical Museum. The
children will enjoy the museum all decorated in it’s Christmas décor. We will enjoy a tour of the
museum, learn the vast history of Manchester and take home a Christmas craft. Please pack a peanut free
lunch, we will enjoy our lunch in the cafeteria before we walk down to the museum. Please dress warm we
will be walking back and forth to museum.

BASIC MACHINE SEWING WITH CHRISTY PALMER
Ever wanted to learn this valuable skill? Need a little refresher course? Received a machine for
your birthday and don’t know how to use it? This class is for you. Spend the day learning how to
properly operate your machine, trouble shoot, cut fabric, and make a couple of projects. Stress free
and fun environment. All supplies provided. Must have a sewing machine in good working order, if
not we have a few to share for the class. This class will be held in Historic Seaside One, please
bring a lunch and water bottle. This class is designed for students in Grade 6th to adults.

SEW YOUR OWN PAJAMA PANTS WITH CHRISTY PALMER
Take your sewing skills to the next level. Must have knowledge of basic machine sewing. Spend
the day learning how to read a pattern, prepare the pattern, find the right size, and sewing the pants
to completion.
Requirements: 3 yards 100% cotton material of your choice (Joann’s or
Sew Creative in Beverly) Scissors (must be able to cut fabric) Must have a

WINTER TABLE TOPPER AND MUG RUG WITH CHRISTY PALMER
Spend the day making a winter theme table topper for your dining room table. What is a mug rug?
This is a cute and useful item you will not be able to live without once you make it. Must have
knowledge of basic machine sewing. We will learn how to cut/organize fabric for the projects. Learn
the basics of beginning quilting. All Supplies provided. Must have a sewing machine in good work-

BABYSITTERS TRAINING COURSE (AGES 11-15)
The Babysitter’s Training course will give participants the safety skills and confidence necessary to
be a great babysitter. The class will teach what to expect from parents and learn the skills needed
to handle any real-life babysitting situation. The course is designed for youth 11-15 years old and
takes place in a fun, interactive environment. Please send your child with a peanut free lunch and
snack.

ARCHERY FOR KIDS (AGES 9 - 14)
Immerse yourself in the sport of archery this fall and discover your new favorite activity! Anyone can
succeed in recurve shooting with a little patience, focus and discipline in learning the shot process.
Individuals will concentrate on building good habits to help them reach their goals and the benefits
from this class will carry over into academic success. Enrolled students are eligible to compete in
the October tournament. All equipment provided. Program run by On the Mark Archery.

TENNIS LESSONS FOR ADULTS AND TEENS
Back by popular demand!!! Come join Adrian Reyes a certified PTR Pro and has been a teacher
and tennis advocate for many years. The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department will be team-
ing up again with the MAC and offering tennis lessons this Fall for adults/ teens for advanced begin-
ners through intermediate. Students will focus on eye hand coordination, stroke mechanics, repeti-
tive motion, singles/doubles and basic strategy. The class will be held on the at Brook Street Courts.

ADULT ARCHERY WITH ON THE MARK ARCHERY
Try out traditional recurve archery this fall and see for yourself why one of the world’s oldest sports
is making a comeback! This introductory course emphasizes the fundamentals that lead to success
and the importance of consistent shooting. Students will compete individually and in team challeng-
es through a variety of games and drills. Enrolled students are eligible for the On the Mark Archery
Tournament for all students this October. All equipment is provided. Ages 14 & above (adult). No

MANCHESTER ESSEX MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB
Manchester Essex Middle School will once again offer its afterschool Mountain Bike Club for all students,
grades 6 - 8. The club will be led by MERMS Health teacher Janda Ricci-Munn. Mr. Ricci-Munn is an avid
mountain biker and has served as a cycling and triathlon coach for the past 15 years. Mr. Ricci-Munn is very
excited about leading this year’s club again and looks forward to sharing his love for cycling with all club
members. The club will meet Tuesdays on a weekly basis. Club rides will last approximately 90 minutes
(2:30pm - 4:00pm) and will take place in and around many of the various trails systems found throughout the
towns of Manchester & Essex. Mr. Ricci-Munn will provide participants with a list of required equipment and

SEA SCAPES CREATIONS
Summer may be winding down, but that doesn't mean we need to let go of those carefree summer vibes!
Sign up for a Seascape Window Workshop and create your own ocean-inspired piece that will remind you of
summer all year long! Create a stunning 8x10 Seascape Window using your sea glass or ours! Seascape
Creations owner Julie Gordon will help you design your one-of-a-kind seascape using an array of materials,
including sea glass, starfish, sand dollars, and other beach finds. Participants will take home their creations
that night to be fused with Seascape Creation's Finishing Kit + Instructions. Fee includes all materials. Feel

YOUTH & TEEN PROGRAMS

The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department will once again be offering our annual winter
basketball program for Manchester and Essex children in grades K - 6. Participants must live or go
to school in either the Town of Manchester or the Town of Essex to participate in this program.

For participants is Grades K, 1 & 2: Each week there will be a half hour skill development session
followed by a team scrimmage on Saturday mornings; organized and officiated by the Coaches.

For participants in Grades 3 - 6: Each team will have a one hour practice during the week in
Manchester Memorial Gym and one game during the day and or early evening on Saturday at
either Essex Elementary Gym or Manchester Memorial Gym. After the 10 week season, there will
be a tournament. Specific schedules will be sent home prior to the start of the season.

For participants in grades 3 - 6, there will be a mandatory evaluation clinic held at the
Manchester Elementary School so that we can place your child on the proper team to make them
as evenly balanced as possible. Spaces are limited, please register early.
