Welcome to Winchester Thurston’s Summer Camp 2022! We offer camps and programs for children entering preschool (three years old) through grade 6. Half and Full Day Programs Available: Campers in grades PK-2 will attend ½ programs 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00. All campers are encouraged to spend the full day with us with lunch/recess care provided in-between. Campers in grades 3-5 will attend full-day camp sessions 9:00-4:00 Mid-morning and afternoon snacks will be provided at no extra charge. Need an early morning solution? Families can drop off campers as early as 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Don’t want to stop the fun? Extend the day from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. with after- camp care. Pre-registration is required. Tuition: Half-day program: $195 per week. Two half-day programs with ½ day discount applied $370 per week. Full-day program: $375 per week. Cancellation Policy: All summer camp offerings are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment. In the event of a cancellation, Winchester Thurston will attempt to notify families in advance and refund the entire course fee. If a camper must cancel and cancellation is received 21 days before the class start date, you will receive a full refund (less a $25 non-refundable registration fee). If cancellation is received less than 21 days, but at least 14 days before the camp start date, you will receive a 50% refund of the camp cost. There is no refund for cancellation received less than fourteen days before the camp start date. Refunds issued will be in the form of an initial payment method (credit card or check.) Change policy: We understand that family schedules can be complex and that sometimes changes need to be made to an original plan. We will gladly support families with schedule changes for a fee of $25 per change.
June 13-17 9:00 am-4:00pm Gateway to Summer 2022 Grades K-2 @ Winchester Thurston School Campers in Grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are invited to join us at the beautiful Kingsley Association for our Gateway to Summer Week! What better way to welcome the summer season than splashing, playing, and creating with friends new and old! Each day campers will meet at WT City Campus and be transported to and from the Kingsley Association. Campers will be divided into small groups based on age, and our Gateway to days will be filled with activities that celebrate the amazing active Summer @ spaces at the Kingsley Center in East Liberty. Kingsley Association swimming in the pool (instruction and 1:1 supervision will be provided for campers who need extra support) Emily Onorato, Being active in the gymnasium with Hidden Gyms Hidden Gyms, Jeannie Kirk, & WT and learning new and exciting skills! Faculty Campers will spend lunchtime in a nearby park where we will enjoy 9:00-4:00 daily picnics and outdoor games. These days are full of walking, Age: 2,3,4,5 running, swimming and lots of action! The start to the summer season at WT has never looked so good!
June 13-17 9:00 am-4:00pm Gateway to Summer 2022 Grades K-2 @ Winchester Thurston School Campers in grades K, 1, 2 are invited to join us at WT Campus for our Gateway to Summer Week! Campers can pick from 3 unique full-day programs to kick-start their summer! These full-day programs will happen at WT! Once Upon a slime… I mean time, there was an amazing summer camp program with Ms. Blaney…a program where we share stories and create Once Upon a new inquiry-based adventures every day of the week! This program Slime explores amazing hands-on science and literature connections with young Kimberly Blaney learners based on Steve Spangler Science. Each session will start with a 9:00-4:00 short, interactive story leading to a fun, exploratory (and sometimes messy!) science experiment. Join us as we listen, create, explore, build, Grade: K,1,2 and investigate! So, “what is a machine?” Is it as complex as a robot or as simple as a ladder? This week, engineers will explore this question as they tinker and Monster Machine create with monsters on their minds. These scientists will learn how to Maker make simple circuits, sketch, and design their original monster machine to Callie Gropp display for the whole camp to admire. They will use reusable materials, 9:00-4:00 motors, and more as they work together and as a team through trial and error to see how inventive they can be with their new circuit knowledge. Grade: K,1,2 Grab your goggles, your lab coats, and your senses and get ready to get Incredible Edible sticky as we build, taste, bake and ask ourselves, can something as Science delicious as dessert really be science? This week young scientists will break the first rule of the science lab as they are encouraged to taste their Chelsea Cannata experiments while hypothesizing the outcomes. Is it possible to make a 9:00-4:00 cookie float? Can we use the sun to make a delicious s’ more? What does Grade: K,1,2 it take to turn something from a liquid to a solid?
June 20-24 9:00 am-12:00 1/2 day programs for grades PK-2 Campers interested in a full day receive a discount and invited for our lunch/ recess hour from 1-2 Calling all Teddy Bears this week as we offer ½ day programs for our newest campers! Join us for a week of magical discovery of the gnomes Teddy Bear Camp: and fairies who live at WT Summer Camp! This week of fantastical Fairy & Gnome exploration will include gnome and fairytales, games, dramatic play, and Maggie Horton maybe even some fairy and gnome sightings. Your little bears will be so 9:00-12:00 busy enjoying water play, games, stories, songs, and crafts that there will be no time to hibernate! Campers will also have the chance to create their Age: 3,PK own special bear that we hope will be a lifelong friend and memory of WT Summer Camp 2022! Have you ever read a book like Ada Twist, Scientist, or Six Dots: A Story Summer STEAM of Young Louis Braille and immediately wanted to create something Rebecca Iezzi inspired by the book? If so, you’ve found the right spot! Campers will enjoy STEM-themed books and use their engineering minds to create their 9:00-12:00 own masterpieces. Think necklaces of binary code, LEGO skyscrapers, puzzles, pom pom theme parks, and more! Each day will be filled with Grade: PK, K engineering challenges and lots of crafts. There will be time to explore, create, and share all of our ideas! Calling all explorers: this camp experience was created for YOU! Each day we will pack up our camp packs and explore the wilds of WT! Our games, Happy Camper Jr. activities, projects, crafts, and challenges will all take a turn to the “wild Rhianna Vignoloni side” as we become forest animals while exploring our native habitat. Campers will take a “day camping trip” and will make treats that will satisfy 9:00-12:00 their explorer appetites. Lots of learning and investigating will take place as campers experience and embrace the adventure, sights, and sounds of Grade: PK, K the animals that live in our very own backyards (and playgrounds!). Calling all SUPER campers! This camp will be filled with incredible stories, Superhero games, challenges, puzzles, and adventures linked to superheroes! Academy Heroes-in-training will undergo challenges to strengthen their mind and body as they discover their own powers! The results will be put to the test Kira Senedak as they work to keep WT Summer Camp safe from dangers, and “villains” 9:00-12:00 Superheros will learn to think like a hero and discover that bad ideas do Grade: PK, K not always mean bad people! Come learn and grow with us during this super week!

Campers will create sea- inspired crafts from fishy fun to their own ocean dioramas and so much Lorraine Free more. We will study seashells, habitats, waves, and sea creatures as we 9:00-12:00 use color, texture, and multimedia materials to create our own under the sea world with WT artist extraordinaire Lorianne Free. It is O-fish-al this Grade: K,1,2 camp is going to be a blast! Explorers: this camp experience was created for YOU! Each day we will Happy Camper pack up our camp packs and explore the wilds of WT! Our games, Roberta activities, projects, crafts, and challenges will all take a turn for the “wild Schwarzbach side” as we become forest animals while exploring our habitat. We will 9:00-12:00 take a day “camping trip” and will make treats that will satisfy our explorer Grade: 1,2 appetites. Lots of learning and investigating will take place as we experience and embrace the adventure, sights, and sounds of the animals that live in our own backyards (and playgrounds!). Calling All American Girl fans: This is a camp that has been created just for you! Together we will travel back in time to the 1760s as we explore the American Girl: land we would later call America. Through the eyes of Kaya of the Nez Kaya Perce tribe, we will gain a better understanding for the world we live in. Elizabeth Lamitina Each day, we will explore different stories, games, activities, and projects 9:00-12:00 that help us take a peek into the world of this adventurous young girl. We Grade: 1,2 will also focus on our individual, special talents and gifts, and we will get crafty and creative…just like Kaya! LEGO Friends! Each day campers will conquer the daily challenge, LEGO Friends uncover new LEGO trivia, and work together to build a collaborative Alaina Loman community. We will see where our imaginations can take us as we build hospitals, our own zoo, redesign and rethink our homes, create ice cream 9:00-12:00 shops, and more. Campers will move beyond traditional LEGO building Grade: 1,2 and find new ways to interact with our favorite classic toy. Each camper will receive their own LEGO friends collection and Lego camp gift box!
June 20-24 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m 1/2 day programs for grades PK-2 Campers interested in a full day receive a discount and are invited for our lunch/ recess hour from 1-2 Journey this week to pixie hollow to join your fairy friends as we create an A Fairy Fun Time array of fanciful fairy delights. Each day, we will begin our magical journey as we walk to look for mystical dwellings and treasures to use for our Taylor Wainwright projects. We will spend the rest of our days reading stories, crafting our 1:00-4:00 own miniature dwellings, building furniture, designing fairy wings and gnome hats, bower crowns, wands, fairy calling charms, and delving into Grade: PK, K the magical world of fairies. Campers will be enchanted by the magic of this camp Pajama Heroes We don’t have to wait for nightfall to enjoy the expeditions of Gekko, Owlette, and Catboy! Join your favorite masked heroes as we join their Rhianna Vignoloni ranks in our super adventures this week as we keep camp safe from 1:00-4:00 Romeo! Campers will discover their unique super identity as they are granted power through the magic WT Summer Camp crystal. What do you Grade: PK, K think your superpower be this week? Bugs and Come see what all the buzz is about! Get out your magnifying glass this Butterflies Art week as young artists focus on the fine details of BUGS. The beautiful to Studio the creepy-crawly world of insects! Campers will learn color mixing Lorraine Free techniques, combine shapes, and explore the importance of texture as 1:00-4:00 they create unique art projects that you will cherish for years to come. Grade: PK, K Take the Stage! This introductory drama camp is designed for campers to Curtain Call explore the most basic elements of acting and creative expression. Vanessa Reseland Students will develop age-appropriate acting and social skills through simple theater games, puppetry, story acting, speech/diction exercises, 1:00-4:00 music, and stage movement. This week will feature hands-on activities that Grade: K, 1,2 focus on stories new and old using their imagination as a twist. There is lots of room for drama in this camp program!
June 20-24 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m 1/2 day programs for grades PK-2 Campers interested in a full day receive a discount and are invited for our lunch/ recess hour from 1-2 ALL ABOARD the STEAM Train! Passengers, join us for a week of Full STEAM Ahead experimenting, creating, and having fun while doing STEAM activities. Throughout this program, campers will do hands-on science experiments, Rebecca Iezzi be exposed to different forms of technology, develop critical thinking skills 1:00-4:00 through engineering projects, and refine math skills through engaging activities. All learning activities will be used to develop self-confidence and Grade: 1,2 a unique perspective when working with STEAM projects. MAKE a Difference Little actions have big impacts. Kind campers will focus on all the ways we can have a positive impact on the world starting with ourselves! We will Kira Senedak work on harnessing our skills to become ninjas of niceness and heroes of 1:00-4:00 happiness as we spread random acts of kindness all over WT Summer Camp, throughout our own communities and beyond. We will talk about Grade: 1,2 different kinds of feelings we can have, how to embrace and handle them as we craft for friends, family, and future friends! Together we will take a trip back to the 1930s with Kit Kittredge and American Girl: Kit explore her life as an independent, spunky, and strong American Girl growing up during the Great Depression. Campers will discover Kit’s Shannon history through some of her favorite activities like dancing, writing, Gallagher adventure and learning how to be resourceful. Each day will be full of 1:00-4:00 different stories, games and projects that are linked to Kit’s life. As we engage in her world, campers will find their individual, special talents and Grade: 1,2 gifts, as courageous leaders and friends – Just like Kit!
June 20-24 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m Full-day programs for grades 3-5 BURGHventures This is going to be one wild ride! Join Ms. Blaney & Mrs. Brownold for a week of adventures in our favorite city. Campers will explore all the city Kimberly Blaney & has to offer, from farms to Fun Fest. We will tour parks and movie theaters, Zann Brownold create and cook, discover and explore parts of Pittsburgh we didn’t know 9:00-4:00 were there! This is sure to be a memorable week full of activities, fun facts, Grade: 3,4,5 adventures, and lots of laughs. Stranded in the woods with no water or food? Not to worry, this week, we will get a chance to connect with ourselves and look at the world with a Every Day is an new lens as we hone our survival skills. Our time will be filled with Adventure neighborhood explorations, learning how to construct a fort, pitch a tent, Elisa Belfiore identify poisonous plants, inspect the clouds, and navigate by the sun and 9:00-4:00 stars (and maps). Campers will record their findings as they become Grade: 3,4,5 explorers of the world with their explorer kit that will be used for many adventures for years to come. This is one week you don’t want to miss! Beading, braiding, knotting, stamping, and MORE! This week, campers will BEADazzle have a chance to work on their fine motor skills and explore the art of making necklaces, rings, keychains, friendship bracelets, and other Elizabeth beaded magic. Some we will keep forever, and others we will hold as Friedman memories as we feel the joy in gifting our handmade pieces. We will create 9:00-4:00 one-of-a-kind jewelry boxes to store our unique creations this week. This Grade: 3,4,5 class is for you if you enjoy making, wearing, or sharing jewelry! Aspiring songwriters and musicians will rock out (on our Ukuleles) as we learn the basic chords, strumming techniques, and how to read music! Rockstar's will spend the rest of the day learning steps and strategies on how to write a song. We will experiment with different Camp ROCKstar genres and songs and share our favorites with fellow campers. This week Billie Sue Bracken will be all about using the the power of our words to inspire and entertain 9:00-4:00 one another. This camp is not all work – we will also play! We will challenge one another to create new lyrics that fit within popular existing Grade: 3,4,5 songs that we all know and love. Campers will also write lyrics that celebrate the sights, sounds, and fabulous mood of summer. Let your imagination set sail as we go back to B.C.and explore the world of Meet The Greeks ancient Greeks and mythology. Curious campers, join us as detectives and sort through clues about Greek mythology, the Olympic games, Greek Mary Arcuri warfare, and the day-to-day life of the Grecian people. Campers will spend 9:00-4:00 time creating art projects linked to the Trojan horse, Greek pottery, and find out what happens to a hero who doesn’t listen to an oracle. Don’t miss Grade: 3,4,5 this classic opportunity to bring the past to life. Welcome to WT Summer Camp of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Witches and Bearthistle School wizards of all experience levels are welcome, even squibs! After collecting of Witchcraft and their wands and supplies from Diagon Alley and being sorted into houses, Wizardry students will begin their magical education covering all of the Ministry- approved essential classes. Students will also use theories of muggle Crystal Gonzales science to perform wizard magic. Campers will learn about electrical & Borck Perkins magnetic forces, circuitry, chemistry, and more as they mix potions and 9:00-4:00 send secret messages, add notes to their spellbooks like the half-blood Grade: 3,4,5 prince, explore the world of magical creatures try their hand at quidditch, and celebrate all things Hogwarts!

This week of Teddy Bear Camp will take us on a safari! Teddy Bear Camp: Teddy bear campers will explore and learn about and visit lots of different Zoofari animals. We will take time to play in the outdoors and to celebrate all the Alaina Loman amazing creatures on Earth – great and small. Warning: Campers will be 9:00-12:00 so busy enjoying water play, games, stories, songs, and crafts that there will be no time for your little bear to hibernate. Campers will also enjoy the Age: 3,PK chance to create their own special bear that we hope will be a life-long friend! Storybook This program is designed to bring the magic of your child's favorite stories Adventure to life through movement, acting, story, and song! Our days will begin with Vanessa Reseland improv warm-ups and jump right into our daily story. At the start of each class, students will gather to listen to the featured story and will learn to 9:00-12:00 interpret the story using props, acting, movement, and more. This week Grade: PK, K will be full of silly and serious fun, crafting, acting, and friendship as we reimagine and replay our favorite tales. Pirate Party Arghhh Matey! Campers will embark on a high-seas adventure as we time travel back to the day of deserted islands, hidden treasures, secret maps, Maggie Horton and merciless pirates! Your pirates will put their storytelling skills to the test 9:00-12:00 as they use them to brave the stormy seas and hunt for treasure. Will our campers be successful in their quest to find the buried treasure, or will we Grade: PK, K be forced to walk the plank at the end of our week together? This week, campers will BEADazzle Jr have a chance to work on their fine motor skills and explore the art of Elizabeth making necklaces, rings, keychains, friendship bracelets, and other Friedman beaded magic. Some we will keep forever and others we will hold as 9:00-12:00 memories as we feel the joy in gifting our handmade pieces. We will create Grade: 1,2 one-of-a-kind jewelry boxes to store our unique creations from this week. If you enjoy making, wearing, or sharing jewelry, this class is for you! Just for Kicks Calling all active young athletes to WT Summer Camp! Have a blast this Pav Gaydos week with coach Pav as you learn all about sports, teamwork, and having fun. Each day we will focus on a new sport, physical conditioning, health 9:00-12:00 and nutrition, and keeping our whole selves healthy. Campers should bring Grade: 1,2 a water bottle and wear clothing that can get muddy, stained, and drenched with sweat. Game on! Curious about your own super powers? Can you leap over tall buildings Superheroes like a grasshopper? Do you have the seeing capability of an owl? Let your ASSEMBLE inner superhero out! Join your fellow Assemblers to creatively explore biometrics as you harness the superpowers that already exist in nature. ASSEMBLE Design, prototype, and make your own costumes and gadgets! Use your 9:00-12:00 superpowers of STEAM to tell your story! Your secret identity is safe with Grade: 1,2 us!
June 27-July 1 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m 1/2 day programs for grades PK-2 Campers interested in a full day receive a discount and are invited for our lunch/ recess hour from 1-2 Fairytale Fun This is one magical camp! Each day we will host our favorite at camp! We Shannon will explore classic fairytales with new twists, listen to stories, enjoy songs, Gallagher games, crafts, and activities all linked to celebrating the magic in each and 1:00-4:00 every one of us. Our camp experience will culminate with a very fancy tea Grade: PK, K party! Fancy dress is welcome daily Dino Dig! Why can you never tell if there is a Pterodactyl in your bathroom? … Because their P is silent! Get ready to laugh, learn and explore as we take Rhianna Vignoloni a ride back in time to prehistoric times. This week young paleontologists 1:00-4:00 will put on their protective goggles and dig for bones, learn about dinosaur habitats, and uncover mysteries of history. Campers will learn about the Grade: PK, K prehistoric world and dinosaurs through crafts, games, stories, and daily dino activities. Take some time this summer to learn more about your SELF! This week, campers will get a chance to explore their identity in a whole new way! Campers will learn about windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors as they Express Yourself learn new ways to understand their own identity and the identity of their Vanessa Reseland friends, families, and community! Through books, crafting, collage, storytelling, and other mediums we will dive into projects that lead to self- 1:00-4:00 discovery and observation. Using unique found and new materials campers will express themselves and think about how they can make the Grade: PK, K world a better place by celebrating our differences! Campers will end the week with a portfolio full of beautiful portraits, amazing creations, and memories to last a lifetime Campers are encouraged to join us for the full day and register for the AM program as well! This week we will create, design, and DIY Designer discover the DIY projects of your dreams. Each day will begin with a different theme where campers can create multiple projects and work Elizabeth together to form new and exciting ideas and inspiration. We will design our Friedman own outfits all the way down to personalized shoes! Best of all, campers 1:00-4:00 will have the chance to put their favorite items on display to inspire other Grade: 1,2 WT Summer Campers to become designers as well! Recess All Day It may be summertime but that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy the most active part of the school day… RECESS! Get your sweatbands ready for Pav Gaydos this epic week of high-action fun. Active campers will play dodgeball, tag, 1:00-4:00 hopscotch, SPUD, four square, and other break-time classics. Campers will learn the rules of each game, how to play as a team, and how to be Grade: 1,2 respectful spectators for their fellow players. The future starts with YOU! Afrofuturism is a cultural aesthetic that Afrofuturism combines the principles of science, art, technology, and history to explore ASSEMBLE the developing intersection of the African Diaspora. From culture to the future, explore the possibilities of a world that looks just like YOU. Learn 1:00-4:00 about other Afrofuturists in the process! Bring your vision to life and Grade: 1,2 communicate them through art, movies, comics, and more.

The World Needs We will ask ourselves, fellow campers, and community members that More... simple question as we work to create our very own WT Summer Camp Liana Maneese podcast. This week the amazing Liana Maneese will teach campers how to 9:00-4:00 have a successful interview, learn the technical skills it takes to create a Grade: 3,4,5 podcast, share recording tips and tricks, and more during this exciting and inspiring camp. We can’t wait to hear from YOU! This is one SWEET camp experience! In our training camp, Padawan's will participate in problem-solving challenges that support the Jedi Code toward a peaceful and cooperative galactic society. Based on Jedi Knight the Star Wars® movies, the activities will be physical in nature and will Training include character role-playing, lightsaber fencing drills, movie trivia, and Ellis James & related discussions. Now with a full day, campers will have the chance to Bryce Cooper do deep dives into character history, create their own movie scenes, and 9:00-4:00 spend even more time learning under Jedi Grand Master Ellis and his apprentice Bryce Cooper. Bring your vision to life and Grade: 3,4,5 communicate them through art, movies, comics, and more. Cardboard Have you seen the hit video Caine's Arcade? Inspired by Caine's summer Carnival project of building a fully cardboard arcade in his father's shop we'll explore Amrit Moore making a variety of classic games. Ever wonder how you could make a pinball machine's flippers? Or a claw machine from cardboard? Or how to 9:00-4:00 light up your creation? We'll explore all this and more ending our week with Grade: 3,4,5 a fully interactive arcade! During this intensive summer performing arts workshop, young performers will learn the basics of working and playing in the theater. We will start the week off with auditions for our musical - the show title will be announced a few weeks prior to the start of the program so campers can familiarize themselves with the music and storyline before the audition. Our days will WT Summer be filled with theater games, performance workshops, show rehearsals, Stagecraft and recording sessions. Interactive workshops will cover topics linked to Intensive working onstage and behind the scenes. Campers will gain insight and experience with stage makeup (all campers will receive their own kits that Emily Gallagher they can take with them at the end of the week), costume/set design, 9:00-4:00 backstage tour and scavenger hunt, basics of sound and lighting, and Grade: 3,4,5 more. In addition to group music rehearsals, each camper will receive two half-hour private voice lessons (schedule will be shared in advance) with the program leader and WT Voice Instructor, Emily Gallagher. Our musical production will be fully recorded and edited to be shared with students and families - a wonderful keepsake to celebrate our time together! This exciting new Adventurer's Intro camp introduces young fans to the legend of characters, the mystical to Dungeons & locations, the wild creatures, and the importance of the magical elements Dragons useful for creating your characters and own epic, adventure-filled D&D Weird Eric tales! Our days will be filled with learning the history of D&D, creating our Costello own 3-d printed characters, and of course, getting lost in the realm of D&D. 9:00-4:00 We can’t wait to get rolling with you!
