U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett & Parks Reserve Forces Training Area March 19, 2021 WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH Celebrating the importance contributions of women to our nation, historically and today. Highlights for FHL: Leadership Off-Site Training; FHL’s first-ever Drive-in Movie, Bench Press Competition, CYS Color Me Green and Read Across America events, the 311th ESC Best Warrior Competition; and Fire Department training. Highlights for PRFTA: Farewell to DGC Roy Rocco, Road March With Your Dog, and Dublin Mayor as guest speaker for Women’s History Month. FHL and Parks Reserve Forces Training Area provides base operations support enabling total force readiness while providing for the well-being and security of Soldiers, Family members and Civilians on post. It is the seventh largest Army installation and the largest Army Reserve installation in the country. Along with this bi-weekly storyboard, FHL & CPRFTA produces a variety of command information products which are available on the Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System (DVIDS). WORKFORCE RECOGNITION Farewell to PRFTA DGC Roy Rocco Parks Reserve Forces Training Area Soldiers and employees bid farewell to PRFTA’s Deputy to the Garrison Commander, Roy L. FAMILY PROGRAMS DFMWR Acitivities (Left) The Cybrary, Recreation Center and the Hacienda teamed up to host the first ever Fort Hunter Liggett Drive-In Movie featuring Mulan at the Old Fire Station/Bldg. 101, March 12, 2021. Eleven 11 vehicles came to see the movie. The next movie, “The Incredibles 2” is scheduled for April 17 starting at 2000 hrs. For more info: https://hunterliggett.armymwr.com.(Right) The DeAnza Sports Center hosted its annual Bench Press Competition to promote a friendly competition for participants to try and reach their max bench press weight, March 10, 2021. There were nine participants: seven males and two females. The heaviest lifter for the female division with 135 lbs. by Cora Bailey. FAMILY PROGRAMS CYS Color Me Green Run CYS Teen Center and 4-H hosted the first Fort Hunter Liggett Color Me Green Fun Run on Sulphur Springs Road, March 13, 2021. The FHL and Lockwood communities were invited to participate in the event. Participants received a white t-shirt with the event logo, colorful sunglasses, and tie-dye masks when they signed in. CYS staff and volunteers doused the runners in green powder while they ran along the route. (Pictured right) First, second, and third place medals were awarded for the fasted runners. An additional prize was awarded to the participant who completed the most laps in 15 minutes. Coincidentally, the third place winner also won for most laps. By the end of the run, the white t-shirts had a bit more color on them. Participants of all ages had a blast at this family event. (Photos courtesy CYS)
FAMILY PROGRAMS CYS Read Across America Fort Hunter Liggett Child and Youth Services (CYS) celebrated acclaimed children’s book author Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a spirit dress-up week and participation in the National Read Across America event. The outdoor area was transformed into a Dr. Seuss wonderland where each group of children were able to listen to an engaging story time and explore Dr. Seuss themed activities. Support from families and the staff from the Cybrary made the event even more special. (Photos by CYS)
FAMILY PROGRAMS PRFTA Road March with Your Dog Parks Reserve Forces Training Area and The Village at Camp Parks housing hosted a “Road March with Your Dog” event, March 13, 2021. The two-mile walk promoting a healthy lifestyle started at the housing office and went around the installation. Participants were treated with a raffle after the leisurely walk. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Women’s History Month: Mayor Hernandez Melissa Hernandez, Mayor of Dublin, the city that Parks Reserve Forces Training Area resides in, was interviewed via Zoom as part of PRFTA’s Women’s History Month celebrations. She spoke to the importance of WHM and what the celebration means for her personally. The Mayor also spoke to this year’s Women’s History Month Theme: Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced and how important the right and exercising that right to vote is for all women. GARRISON READINESS Fire Department Live Fire Training During the week of March 15-19, Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department conducted live fire training burns in the department’s structural trainer. The Fire Department is required to accomplish live fire training drills twice a year to maintain proficiency in fire ground skills and tactics. Pictured in “Interior 1” FF/Paramedic Douglas Jenkins. GARRISON READINESS Leadership Training Maj. Gen. Alberto Rosende, 63rd Readiness Division Commanding General Bob Schout President of PowerSkills The garrison hosted a 3-day leadership virtual workshop with participation of leaders from both installations, senior commander Maj. Gen. Alberto Rosende, and trainer Bob Schout, president of PowerSkills. Topics included the difference between managing and leading, different styles of management, learning and thinking styles, conflict managing styles, and communication and listening styles. Rosende discussed leadership and the mechanics of change. Garrison Staff Judge Advocate Lt. Col. Jason Frankenfield also provided an ethics brief during the workshop. Participants remained engaged by asking questions, and providing valuable feedback.
SUPPORT TO TRAINING 311th ESC Best Warrior Competition The 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) held its Best Warrior Competition at Fort Hunter Liggett the week of March 14th. More than 20 warriors competed in 10 events for Best Individual Warrior and Best Squad Events included land navigation, ruck march, weapons qualifications, and the Army Combat Fitness Test. Winners will compete in April in the 79th ESC Best Warrior Competition. (Photos courtesy 311th ESC)
