EXHIBITIONS Neon Waves The Art of Josh Averill + Mark Piotrowski Josh Averill and Mark Piotrowski, both Bay City artists, are lighting up the Bayliss gallery with their dynamic, electrifying art. Neon artist Josh Averill restores vintage neon signs and art and operates a neon studio. Tom Dymora introduced Averill to neon, sparking his passion for the art form. Josh often collaborates with artist, Eddie Schingeck to create a fusion of mixed media art. Award winning artist Mark Piotrowski is known for his ongoing enamel and aluminum series, Wave Journeys. His quest is to capture the shift that takes place in our minds and lives as we experience life. He believes relationships with loved ones, friends, family, and the environment are the bright colors of our lives. He looks for inspiration close to heart and home. Mark is an educator teaching art for Bay City Public Schools and is heavily involved with his mural and design company, MARKed ARTs. On exhibit through 2/19. Katie Truemner Bruessow attended Kendall College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration and a focus on Furniture Design. After graduating Katie worked in the mass production market in both home furnishings and painting, selling to companies like Ashley Furniture and Jeffrey Alans. Painting has always been the core of Katie’s creative work. Her creative process is set free by her loose style which is often reflected in her favorite subject matter - nature. Mitchell Truemner attended Delta College with an art concentration in the late 70s. He has been the featured artist in Traverse City’s Michigan Artist Gallery and the Traverse City’s Opera House. Truemner’s abstract paintings evoke a sense of spirituality. He is greatly influenced by the wooded areas of northern

All ages are welcome. Preregistration Required. 6:00 – 8:00 pm / $30 each workshop / All materials provided / Downtown @ C360 Galleries 144 E. Ashman Tuesday, January 10 - Henri Matisse 3D Creative Collage Matisse began as a painter, but fell in love with the art of cut- outs later in life after an illness affected his mobility and made fine motor skills more difficult. We will create a modern, funky floral sculpture inspired by his work. Thursday, February 16 - Carol Rossetti Comic Portraits Rossetti is a current Brazilian artist known for her “Women Project,” a series of illustrations featuring comic style portraits of real people sharing their insecurities or times they felt judged. She pairs these stories with positive affirmations. Learn to illustrate simplified comic-style people in ink and watercolor and practice fun lettering styles. We will then create positive affirmations, Rossetti style! Thursday, March 16 - Paint Your Pet Like Louis Wain Louis Wain began drawing his whimsical cats to entertain his wife, but his illustrations took off and were used in many ads and magazines in the early 1900s. As time went on, his cats would change to reflect his thoughts and feelings. We will paint our own pets on 11x14 canvas using traditional brush painting and paint markers. Invent your own whimsical animal, or send a photo of your pet to artshop@becreative360.org by March 13th to have it printed and transferred to canvas. Art can be an important tool for communication when we can’t explain how we feel with words. Tuesday, April 11 – Jean-Michel Basquiat Basquiat was a graffiti artist and painter working in the 70s and 80s who used an abstract, primitive style that stripped visuals down to their essential meaning. He had a difficult childhood, and went from homeless teen to selling paintings for thousands of dollars in a couple of years. He used symbols to tell his story and discuss difficult issues. Using acrylics and paint markers we will, like a graffiti artist, learn to work in layers as we choose shapes, symbols, and words to tell our story on an 11x14 canvas. In another nod to street art and the idea of artists adding to, and layering over, each other’s work, we will also make our mark on a collaborative canvas that will be displayed in the community. This workshop is a perfect guided intro to abstract art. Beginning Acrylic Painting If you’re just starting out or have some experience with acrylics, this series will provide a thorough understanding of the principles and elements of art, color mixing, composition, and adding mediums to explore the versatility of this medium. With Cynthia Keefe, MFA, and Creative 360 Co-Founder. A materials list will be provided. Please preregister.
