“ It was wildest, untouched Africa, and it was magic. ~Jane Goodall ” THE TRIP AT A GLANCE • 12 days and 11 nights in the Tanzania’s Ngorongoro and Serengeti, and Kenya’s famed Masai Mara. • Comfortable accomodations in glamping tents with modern ammenities (flush toilet, shower, sink), exceptional food and full bar included. Our camp locations are ideally sit- uated to immerse visitors in wildlife and the night-calls of lions, baboons, hippos, birds, and hyenas. We place you in the heart and soul of Africa. • Small group size: 4-8 tour participants with one-on-one and group photo instruction, as well as daily image review by award-win- ning wildlife photographer, Michelle Theall. • The BEST local guides: legendary guides / big cat biologists, including Maasai tracker, Ping, who literally wrote the book on iden- tifying every lion, cheetah, and leopard in the Mara. Decades of observing big cat behavior allows him to predict interactions and locations with precision. • Close observation for sharp, intimate pho- tography. Off-road permits in some closed areas. Vehicles customized for photography equipment and viewing. You do not have to be a photographer to join this tour, but you have to LOVE spending time with wildlife.
Immerse Yourself in Photography in the Best Place on Earth. East Africa is renowned for the depth and breadth of its species and diversity, with breathtaking landscapes of canyons, watering holes, forests, mesas, and open grassy plains. Leopard, giraffes, elephants, zebras, lions, hye- nas, buffalo, hippos, cheetah, and all manner of bird life provide photo ops at every turn. Photographers know that cap- turing “the moment,” requires more than technical expertise. Time in the field is critical to cap- ture more than a snapshot of these magestic animals. Waiting for animal interaction, perfect light, reflection, motion, eye contact, cubs to play, hippos fighting, requires patience and immersion into the environment. Plus in January, we get good weather, avoid the crowds, and get to see new babies. We want all our guests to bring home “gallery-worthy” shots.
Hunting, mating, playing, Shots We’ll Try to Get nursing, sunsets, sunrises, birds-in-flight, panning, splashing, fighting, in the Field silhouettes, reflections, animal interactions.
“ I can’t think of one thing you could improve upon... I reclaimed and deepend my love of photography... This was a bucket-list trip, and it was fulfilled beyond my dreams... ” Even better than the NatGeo trips we’ve taken... ~ Quotes From Wild Departures Guests Where We Stay, Eat, Dream, and Play Guests stay in well-appointed platform tents at our camps in the Ngorongoro close to the crater rim in an ancient acacia forest, giving us quick access to capture morning light (1 night). In the Serengeti Ndutu we camp (4 nights) in an area centered in wildlife concentration. In Masai Mara, our home (4 nights) is on the Talek River near its confluence with the Mara River. It provides the perfect jumping off point for our forays into the park, a place where the roar of lions and the whoop of hyenas can be heard in the night. Meals cater to the American diet, prepared with local ingredients by a trained chef. Lunches and breakfasts may be served in the field or on the go, depending on safari times. A full bar is included. Daily photography instruction, image sharing, and processing will take place in between morning and late afternoon game drives, but will also adapt to the activity we find in the field. Guests are free to skip game drives at their discretion.
Arusha Tour and Hospitality Guests arrive and stay in one of the finest places in Arusha, set in the rolling hills of a coffee plantation beneath Mount Meru. Exceptional food, outdoor dining, spa access, and luxury accommodations provide a haven for refreshing and relaxing after long travels. Our tour of Arusha allows guests one of the few opportunities to experience “city life” in Tan- zania. Tour includes the following: Shanga Workshop for disabled artisans, Cultural Heritage Center representing the works of over 120 Tanzanian tribes, and the Central Maasai Market. All provide photo ops of local architecture, arts, and residents.
