Page 4 Early Childhood Center The 2020-21 school year has come to an end. Despite COVID and all the changes that occurred in the way we taught, we are so thankful that everyone stayed safe and healthy the entire year. We had 12 children from the 4K class graduate on May 26. Graduation was held outside where they acted out the book “Peanut Butter and Jelly”, sang some of their favorite songs, and then received their diplo- mas. We wish them God’s blessings as they enter Kindergarten in the fall. Child Care will be open throughout the summer. The only days we will be closed are Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, August 2 & 3 for staff retreat/workdays and Labor Day. There may be space for drop-ins, but space is extremely limited, so please call 467-6733 to determine availability. Thank you for saving used ink and toner cartridges as well as old cell phones. You can continue to drop them off in the Giving Center during the summer. Looking Back: In May, we focused on life Thank you: At our first meeting, a team of after Jesus’ ascension. Page 5 AWANA Update Looking Back: We did it. We made our way through the entire Old Testa- ment! It’s been an incredible journey. Throughout the last 9 months kids and parents together have met once a month and added to a string of 40+ total actions helping to learn, apply and recall the chronological Old Testa- ment story line—always pointing toward Christ. May had God’s people re- starting life in Judah after their 70 year exile. Zerubbabel helped guide the rebuilding of the Temple, Ezra needed to remind the People of God’s law and love. And Nehemiah oversaw the reconstruction of the protective Wall. In between we hear the amazing account of Esther, a Queen that played a prominent role in Jewish history (and survival). In the end, we understand that there was a time of silence without the prophets came. Wait....before Christ came unsuspectedly on the scene. Pictures—Reagan, Adeline, Vivian, Arika, Chloe & Cindy build their temples. Marissa, Jessica, Sephra, Ella, Elissa, Aiden, Charles & Chris help put God’s people together. There is excitement to see how God may use the lessons learned from “Covid” AWANA this year to help enhance the ministry in the Fall. The focus will likely be on the New Testament Story and 40 actions de- scribing the life of Christ and the new church. A Huge Thanks: Doing AWANA online for 9 months was not in the sights of our usual volunteers, but thank you to Amanda Hildebrand, Arika Bertucci, Randy Block, Jolene Hendrikse, Paul Martin, and Cindy Thill for stretching themselves to share the Word of God and connect through class online. Thanks also to our high school helpers Braydlin & Mallory (who also helped with class online), Amara Feile and Mikena Grunewald. And thanks to behind the scenes helpers Brian (set-up), An- drea (secretary) and Katrina (AWANA store). Jeff Diener, Director of Children’s & Family Ministry - Jeff D@stpaulfalls.com

I was so blessed to celebrate with all of these 8th grade families. Confirmation instruction might have concluded for the summer months but there are still many events that families can and should participate in together. Worship services continue to take place all summer and Youth Group kicks off June 6th. See you in church! We ended the school year of Youth Group with some awesome outdoor games, hide-and-seek and annual bowling event. We are so blessed to have been able to meet in person all year long! We made several shifts this year and it made for a great year! Summer Youth Group We have a great summer schedule planned for all of our youth. Youth group is open to all youth 6th grade and older and come as your schedule allows. Part of the fun of youth ministry is that you never know who will show up from week to week! So, make plans to come and join us this summer we would love to see you there! Young adult get togethers- All young adults should watch social media for times and locations of get togethers that will be held all summer long. This is a great chance to connect after work and catch up on how life is going. Mark your calendar for the first event that will take place at Nicole’s house on Wednesday, June 9th at 6pm. We have an amazing group of almost 40 people signed up for the 2022 LCMS Youth Gathering that will be held in Houston, Texas. This is a big trip and planning has already begun. Please keep in your prayers the gathering coordinators at the Synod of- fice, the thousands of churches that are beginning the planning process, and all those that will be attending from near and far. St. Paul Youth Mission Team is packed and ready to go, well almost! We have a bit of time before our bags will be loaded up in transit vans, but we are ready! Pray for our team of 29 as we head to Nashville June 26-July 2. Youth Mission Team is ready! Page 10 Hanging Out with Dad I’ve always been a “daddy’s girl.” Growing up, I usually spent Saturdays in the garage with my dad. We’d build something, fix a car part, or get into some trouble together. Though Joseph wasn’t Jesus’ biological fa- ther, he certainly served as a father figure for God’s Son. Jesus followed in Joseph’s footsteps as a carpenter, but we’re told little about his childhood. When Joseph advised Jesus to “measure twice and cut once,” did Jesus men- tion he’d get it right on the first measure? How many craftsman tips did Jesus learn from Jo- seph? And did Joseph learn a few from Jesus? Surely young Jesus looked up to Joseph. What did wonder look like in the eyes of the One who invented wonder? How am I hanging out with God on a regu- lar basis? Am I continuing to learn his “trade”? Do I intentionally mimic his words, his kind- ness, his ways of loving others well? Take a mi- nute to ponder that. Imagine yourself out in the garage with God (or in the kitchen with God, or at the computer with God). What task do you imagine doing together? What does God say to you as you look into his eyes? —Janna Firestone
Page 11 Summertime Prayer Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean— the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down— who is gazing around with her enormous and complicat- ed eyes. Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face. Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away. I don't know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass, how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields, which is what I have been doing all day. Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? —Mary Oliver
