My Story Alex I first found out about ETF by complete chance while exploring Newton Abbot. I was walking down Union Street and was surprised to see a big frog’s head to my right! I’m originally from Canada but I’ve been recently living in Plymouth and Bristol, first as a student at the Plymouth College of Art and then working on live events in Bristol. Since coming to ETF, I’ve been brushing up on my software knowledge by taking courses in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as “Building a basic website”. I really enjoyed this course as it’s been years since I tried to create one. It’s definitely a lot easier these days! ETF have provided me with productive opportunities while I was still settling into this town and in-between jobs, as well as helping me sustain a proactive approach to learning and employment. Now, I am employed as an I.T Support in a local business and I intend to continue gaining more experience and certification in this area. I really appreciate all the wonderful things the staff have done for me. They are all lovely people who really seem to listen and care. Thank you for everything! 7

That’s why we’ve started our new ‘community fridge’ at The Pad - with a little help from some local companies. We act as a hub for Morrison’s, Riverford Delivery and other suppliers, who donate ‘close to expiry-date’ food. We use this to offer a free shop for local people. Anyone is able to access this service- you do not have to be out of work or already on a course with Eat That Frog. We also use some ingredients for our catering training, Over 50’s lunch club, and our young students access food parcels to take home. We distribute to local groups, like The Haven Torbay (supporting the homeless), Salvation Army/ Paignton community larder and a Holiday Hunger project for children who get free school meals. Many thanks to the Hubbub project which donated the fridge. Our community fridge/ free food is available to everyone: 9am- 4:45pm, Monday to Friday (food availability is subject to donations) 15

Did you know? We also offer educational opportunities for young people! We provide bespoke courses for young learners (aged 16+) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), especially those with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs. We help young people who have not thrived in a traditional learning setting such as school or college, or have missed learning opportunities. Our small group sizes, dedicated tutors, 1:1 mentoring and bespoke programmes offer the personal support and guidance that many larger institutions are simply unable to provide. Everything we do is person-centred, creating pathways for young learners (usually with EHCPs) to help them break down their barriers and achieve their goals. We have been graded ‘GOOD’ across the board by Ofsted for our education & training services for young people and adults. What makes us really special is the effort we put into helping learners with their social skills and coping mechanisms - building confidence, reducing anxiety levels, and integrating into small groups. Our Ofsted Inspection praised our ‘caring and nurturing’ environment. Along with improving functional Maths, English and IT, learners gain work-related skills. We tailor the programme to match each individual, depending on their interests and life-aims. We offer our learners the best progression routes to enable them to enter the world of work with confidence and the skills to succeed.
