Howdy! Welcome to our beach house. Even our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, needed time to get away. When he did he went to Bethany, a small village outside of Jerusalem. There he met with good friends, reconnected with his Father, and rested from the demands of his ministry. We hope our Bethany will do the same for you. Share quality time with friends and family, take in the beauty of Our Master’s creative hand, reconnect with your Creator, take time to rest and be at peace from the demands of the world. If that sounds Spiritual to you, that’s good. This place is just that for us. God taught us a major lesson with this property. Everything in creation is his. He blesses us by letting us use and be good stewards of it. He can also take it away as he pleases. But he will always restore the faithful. This guide will help you help us be good stewards of this property. It will help us preserve it for others who need to find peace and refreshment. Thanks for reading and following these instructions. May your stay bring you much blessing. The Formans Getting Here Take IH-10 to Winnie. Proceed south on Highway 124 to High Island. At the beach, the road makes a sharp right and become Hwy 87. Travel west toward the Galveston Ferry. After passing through Gilchrist and crossing Rollover Pass (the bridge over a fish cut), go about 5 miles. You will see a big blue water tank is on the right of the Hwy. The water tank is across from the Singing Sands subdivision. Pass the tank and you will immediately turn left on the next street, Hamilton. Hamilton dead ends at Tarpon Way. Our house is the yellow one on the right beachfront. Note: I have been told that some GPS systems read the address city as Gilchrist as opposed to Crystal Beach. It is the only Tarpon Way around, however.
Upon Arrival • Feel free to park under the house. • Use the kitchen stairs (west) to enter house. • Because of the beach environment, the exterior doors and door hardware can stick. The dead bolts are often hard to open. If so, pull the door hard to the door frame to relieve the pressure on the dead both. That usually does the trick. Also, make sure the latch catches when you close the door. Sometimes it sticks as well. Once open, try a little WD40 on the hardware to make them work better (kept in the garage). • Whenever going in or out of either the kitchen or beach door, hold the doorknob firmly. Wind catches the door and can smash it into the house. There are no door stops. • The A/C thermostat is on the north wall of the dining room. It is set at 78 degrees when no one is there. Turn it down to 76 degrees when you arrive if you want it cooler.
• The house has two water heaters. We turn them off at the electrical panel when the house is not in use. Turn them ON when you arrive so you will have hot water. The breaker box is located in the utility room on the wall across from the washer. • Cargo Lift: The house is equipped with an aluminum cargo lift winch basket located by the kitchen door. To use the lift, please closely follow these instructions. The lift is intended FOR CARGO USE ONLY! o The control panel for the lift is located by the kitchen door. o The key to the lock is located on the Cargo Lift remote control device (yellow) which is hanging on the key rack in the utility closet (by the kitchen door).
o Unlock the Control Box and switch the on/off switch to “ON”. o Plug in the control box (receptacle below the box). o Use the yellow remote to control the up/down of the cargo basket. Always make sure the gate on the basket is fully closed and latched before moving the gate. Always double check that nothing about the gate will strike the house in movement. o Always close and latch the deck rail gate BEFORE moving the basket. Failure to close and latch the gate could result in a fall, serious injury and/or death. • Window cleaning: The front windows collect salt and sand and usually need to be cleaned for maximum viewing. o Upon arrival, wash the windows (including door) first with water using the hoses supplied on each deck area. This will get the salt and sand off to avoid scratching. o Windex and a rag are located below the kitchen sink. Windex the windows for the best result. • Plastic Deck Chairs are located by the beach door. Feel free to leave them outside during the course of your stay but please bring them back indoors before you depart. • The deck swing is secured by two bungee straps. Unhook the straps before use. Please re-attach the straps to the eyebolts and secure the swing before you depart.
Kitchen and Bath • We are on a septic system, please do not put too much food down the kitchen disposal. • The coffee pot is quirky. If the basket is not placed correctly, it can make a mess. The pot itself also needs to be put in straight for it to work properly with the handle facing the front. • Feel free to use all dishes, glasses, pot and pans, utensil but please wash, dry and store them before you depart. • We would prefer if you would bring your own kitchen paper goods. You can use our plates and plastic utensils in an emergency. There is a full service grocery located at The Big Store (in Crystal Beach). We also now have a Dollar Store in the next shopping center. • Instructions for the Margarita maker should be with the machine in the cabinet but you are going to need to bring your own supplies. • The trash can is in the pull out cabinet at the end of the counter. Trash bags are located in the drawer below the can. Trash pickup from the cans on the street occurs Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure the lids are secure on the street side cans.
• There is a propane grill located in the garage. You are welcome to use it but please clean all the food and grease off of it before storing it when you depart. We have a mildew problem in the garage and mold and mildew love grease and food particles. There are grill supplies/cleaners: aluminum foil, soap and windex in a plastic “grill box” in the garage. Lining the drip pan with aluminum foil before grilling will save cleanup time. Grill utensils are located in the kitchen drawer. • Towels for each bath are located in the cabinets over the commodes. Toilet paper is located in the undersink cabinets. Please use TOILET PAPER APPROVED FOR SEPTIC TANK ONLY. • DO NOT PUT SANITARY PRODUCTS DOWN THE TOILETS. THEY WILL CLOG THE SEPTIC TANK. Satellite TV, DVD, Stereo, Internet, Cell Service • The house is equipped with DISH TV. To turn the SAT on press the top red button on the universal remote. To turn the TV on, press the red button marked TV. Use the “Guide” button to find stations and programming. There is a list of stations in the drawer of the TV table. The TV input must be set on HDMI to receive the SAT.
• The DVD system works as normal, but the TV input selection must be changed. (I think it is Input 2?) • The DVD is equipped with an IPod cord to play tunes through the speaker system. Set the DVD input to AUX. • The is a TMoble Internet Hot Spot in the cabinet under the book shelves in the living room. Service is an “as needed” monthly charge and additional charges may be required if the internet is not turned on ($30.00). Once the service is on, place the hot spot on an east side window sill, plug it in, turn it on, and it should find a signal. It will read when service is connected. You can then log on network Formanbeach7x7, passcode Txaggie84. The number to call TMobile and buy the monthly service is 877-778-2106. The number of the hotspot device is 409-273-4795. The pin number if they ask is #1234. • Cell service is erratic, especially at night if the wind is up (don’t know why that is so). Texting usually works fine. Because your phone is often searching for a signal it burns up battery quickly. Bring your charger. Fun in the Sun (Garage) • The house key also opens the garage side door. • The light switches and garage door opener are located to your left as you walk in the side door. One of the switched is to the overhead light in the garage. We keep it on at all times to help prevent the mold from accumulating. Another is for the driveway light (on the street side of house). It is on an automatic sensor so also leave the driveway light switch turned on. It comes on automatically when it gets dark for security. • You may use the beach chairs, boogie boards, floats in the garage. Please wash them off when you return from beach at end of day and let them dry overnight. They rust very quickly if not kept clean. Please only re-store chairs that are dry. • There is an EZUp tarp in the garage (sorry it is broken currently). If you are not familiar with how an EZUp is put up, please just use umbrellas.
Also, two legs of the EZUp lack the spring buttons so you will need to be inventive (find something to stick in the holes. Always stake the legs. In high winds, use the rope and additional stakes on the corners. • There are horseshoes in the bucket and the poles are in the back yard. • BRING YOUR OWN FISHING GEAR. Please don’t use the fishing poles and tackle. They belong to my father in law. Fishing licenses are available on the peninsula now at the Parker Lumber store. There is a fish cleaning table and sink by the shower downstairs. Feel free to use. Clean up!! • There is a foot wash spicket on the piling close to the downstairs shower. Please wash the sand off of your feet before going upstairs into house. If you have been swimming in surf, please wash sand off and out of bathing suit in the downstairs shower to keeps sand out of upstairs drains. • Beach towels are located above the washing machine. • Golf Cart: You are welcome to use the Golf Cart but it can be cantankerous so use with caution. o It is a 48V electric model that must be charged. The charger is located on the shelf by the side door. To charge, first plug in the charger. Next plug in the large end of the charging cord to the cart (a hole below the seat near the floor board.). After several seconds, the charging needle on the charger will jump to the right and register it is charging. It takes about 3 hours for these old batteries to charge fully. o Open the seat and on the rear panel behind the batteries is a toggle switch marked “Run” or “Tow”. Place it in the “Run” position. The battery gage on the dash of the cart should show fully charged after charging (light to the farthest right). o The golf cart key (with bright orange floater) is located in the utility closet in the kitchen. Turn the key and move F or R. o CAUTION: These batteries are old and shed their charge quickly. Don’t plan on traveling too far. You better be almost home when
the gauge shows ½ full (middle light). If the motor bucks at low charge just keep driving it back to the charger. o To use the stereo you must install the small 10amp red fuse located in the front cargo tray into the fuse joint (a black plastic cap and receiver) located on the red wire attached to the battery under the seat. If the fuse is installed and the cart is switched to the “run” position, the stereo should be operational. Please take care not to get sand inside the DVD. You can also hook up a MP3. o Please wash and dry the Golf Cart thoroughly before you store it on departure. Wash off all sand including underneath. Then use the leaf blower to dry it off. Games, Reading, Puzzles • You are welcome to start a new puzzle, read any of the books, or play the assortment of games and cards. • Feel free to put up the hammock on the front deck. Attach it using the first chain link on either side. If you don’t your rear end will drag the bottom.
Before Departing • Please wipe off counter tops and stove. • Please wash all dishes and put away. Do not leave dirty dishes in dishwasher. • Please wash all towels and sheets that you use, including kitchen towels. • Unplug the coffee pot and toaster oven. • Turn off TV, SAT, Internet • Please take out all trash, including bathroom trash. The garbage truck comes Monday and Thursday mornings. Make sure you put the lid on the outside trashcans securely. • Please vacuum and mop the floor if needed. • Put deck chairs back inside. Secure swing with bungees.
• Wash off and dry all beach chairs, umbrellas, tarps etc. and put back in garage. • Wash and dry Golf Cart and .return to garage. Unplug charger.
