In case of an absence from school, parents need to send a written excuse on the day their child returns describing the reason for their absence. The campus provides a form, if needed, on our website. If a child is absent five consecutive days or more, a doctor’s excuse is required. Communication will be sent home by the district regarding absences. Adolphus has an Attendance Review Committee (ARC) that will review documentation regarding absences. Afterschool groups, parent organizations and other visitors can visit our campuses before/after school hours and during student holidays. Parents who wish to have lunch with their student(s) will sit in a designated area, as determined by the campus. ARD, 504 and LPAC meetings can be held virtually or in-person at the request of the parent/guardian. Campuses should designate an area near the front of the building for these meetings. Words from the Nurse Jewel Kozak,RN 832-223-4706 jewel.kozak@lcisd.org
Sick Children If your child is sick: Children must be free of fever (less than 100.0 degrees) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Advil / Motrin) before returning to school. Children must be free of diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school and need to be eating and drinking without any problem. If a child vomits two or more times within 24 hours, they will need to stay home for at least 24 hours to ensure they are not contagious. Please call the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, head lice, impetigo, ringworm, flu or has vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Clothing Students PK-1st grade should have a change of clothing including underwear, bottoms, shirt and socks (all within school code) in a plastic bag in their backpack. While your student may not tend to have accidents at home, it is not unusual during an adjustment time to the schedule of school for accidents to happen. Also, it is recommended that your student of all grade levels have extra bottoms/shirt (also dress code) available in their backpack. Students often spill breakfast/lunch on themselves or get muddy at recess and this will help ensure your student has clean, dry clothes that fit available to them.
Peanut Free Classrooms Classrooms are to be peanut free. A child with a serious peanut allergy can suffer a reaction merely by touching or smelling a peanut-containing food. Therefore, we are asking parents to adhere to the following: • Please do not send any peanuts, peanut butter or foods containing peanuts or peanut butter to be eaten as snacks in the classroom. • We will not be doing any class projects that involve peanuts or peanut butter. Please do not send any projects containing peanuts/peanut butter. • Any food sent in to share with students should be limited to one item per classmate and should be a store purchased single serve item (i.e. cookie, cupcake, etc.) with an ingredient list which is peanut free. Single serve items also allow for the treat to be served, eaten and cleaned up within a reasonable amount of time. The above does not apply to lunches, only to classroom snacks. We are trying to ensure the safety of all our children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We know that in working together we strive to create a safe environment for all students.
Life-Threating Illness Food Allergies: Food allergies can be life threatening. The risk of accidental exposure to foods can be reduced in the school setting if schools work with students, parents, and physicians to minimize risks and provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students. Provide written medical documentation, instructions, and medications as directed by a physician, using the Food Allergy Action Plan as a guide. Include a photo of the child on the written form. If your student has Asthma, this can turn into a life-threatening situation if there is no inhaler for student at school. Please make sure to provide an asthma action plan and inhaler for your student in case of emergency. If your child has seizures, or history of, please provide a seizure action plan and any emergency medication needed.
Medications Children are not permitted to carry medication including cough drops. ALL MEDICATION must be administered from the clinic. Over the counter medication for less than 6 weeks must be accompanied by a note from the parent authorizing administration of the medication, reason and dose, time and amount. Parents must deliver the medication to the clinic and bring only the necessary amount for school. ALL medication must be in the original container. All prescription medication must be in the original pharmacy container with the child’s name, medication date and dosing instructions. A second bottle from the pharmacy can be requested from the pharmacy by the parent for the school clinic. Medications such as antibiotics for 3 times a day or every 8 hours are to be given at home. Just follow a before breakfast, after school and before bedtime schedule. *There are no "stock medications" in the clinic such as Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, etc. Medications can only be sent for the student by the parent or guardian.
Where Can I find the appropriate Paperwork For any medications or actions plans your child may need, you can find these on the Adolphus website. Once to Adolphs Website, click on ABOUT, and then NURSE'S NOTES and all paperwork will be to the left of the screen. You may also contact the nurse for forms. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND NO MEDICATION CAN BE ADMINISTERED BY NURSE WITHOUT THE APPROPRIATE PAPERWORK!

What Can I do to Help Speak to your child/children about the appropriate times to go to the nurse. I want to take care of all the students to the best of my ability—it is my passion! A little about me—my kids are grown, so there is nothing better I love than loving on your students. However, we do have some students with severe needs that need specialized attention, and the teachers will have supplies to take care of minor injuries in classroom. Thank you so much for your help and just remember OUR FUTURE IS BRIGHT!
