Cambridge Big Data Initiative • The Cambridge Big Data Strategic Research Initiative brings together researchers from across the University to address challenges presented by our access to unprecedented volumes AND VARIETY of data. • Research, Training and Network activities span all six Schools and over 50 Departments of the University from the underlying fundamentals in mathematics and computer science, to applications ranging from astronomy and bioinformatics, to medicine, social science and the humanities • Five cross-cutting Themes: 1) Data Management and Processing; 2) Ethics, Law and Policy; 3) Imaging; 4) Making Big Data Work; 5) Theoretical Foundations. • Cambridge Big Data supports collaboration with industries to promote knowledge transfer in this growing field. Things to remember … • Support Staff is here to help • University buildings close at 5:00pm • Use Eduroam to access wi-fi (or ask Support Staff) • Do not leave your personal belongings unattended, we are not responsible for lost or stolen items! • Be polite and respectful of the common areas • We do not have storage areas for luggage • This is a University Department, please do not make loud noises and do not go around exploring restricted areas
